Nationwider Posted 1 July 2006 Posted 1 July 2006 ...is one of the most stressful things in the world ever. Finally got an offer yesterday after 6 months of timewasters. Not a bad offer, but we felt they could go a little better, so we suggested a compromise in between their bid and our valuation. And then nothing. The estate agent appears to have vanished off the face of the earth. No-one's called back. I'm really gutted we might have lost our buyer.
macbeth Posted 1 July 2006 Posted 1 July 2006 Estate Agents = Photo copier & Notice board then conveyance solicitors=paper shuffling licensed bandits in oak panelled offices
Nationwider Posted 1 July 2006 Author Posted 1 July 2006 Estate Agents = Photo copier & Notice board I got a letter last month informing me of their "new marketing strategy" - to reduce the price by £5,000. Wow - bet that took a board meeting to come up with! <_<
stez Posted 1 July 2006 Posted 1 July 2006 not wanting to add to your pain, but i will, our house was on the market for 3 weeks before an offer came in, i said no, they came back offering the asking price 1/2 an hour later! thats when the solicitors got inolved and everything stopped we paid them a fortune to basically do nothing. me and the buyer could've had it all signed and sealed down the pub in 10 minutes! getting an offer and accepting it is just the start of the problems!

macbeth Posted 1 July 2006 Posted 1 July 2006 OI ! we don't all have oak sorry it was a rash generalisation and i wood treat oak just like any other stained hardwood ; indeed some of my best friends are mahogany and i treated them with ronseal
Guest Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 To be fair, if you end up in conveyancing, you've probably got a shit degree. <_<

Ricey Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 Estate Agents = Photo copier & Notice board My dad's an Estate Agent <_<
davieG Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 My dad's an Estate Agent <_< Well I've moved house about 10 times and none of the Estate Agents have ever done more than write out the details which I've always had to correct and put a notice in the paper which have also been wrong on 5 occasions. I've used 8 different Agents, so I think my evidence is pretty conclusive.

davieG Posted 2 July 2006 Posted 2 July 2006 Fair enough, pity Mark Rice Estate Agents aren't in your area I'm sure he's excellent Ricey, there's always an exception to any rule, I think the fact that it's his own business, I assume probably makes the difference.
macbeth Posted 3 July 2006 Posted 3 July 2006 what do estate agents and rhinos have in common both thick skinned and charge a lot
Dr The Singh Posted 3 July 2006 Posted 3 July 2006 I'm looking to sell my house within a year or so and i'm dreading it.....I had loads of issues with the estate agent when I bought my current property and to be honest I have very little faith in them because of it, plus while we were house hunting other estate agents not all, would quite openly tell us the buyers lowest price and if we bid lower they would try and pursuad the seller!! I'm thinking of advertising it privately first and if no go, go to the estate agents

Yes, it was a truly stressful time. Still wish we had that house though because it would mean we still lived in Leicester
Daggers Posted 3 July 2006 Posted 3 July 2006 I'm trying to buy a house. Estate agents: ignore the maximum price you can afford ignore useless criteria like THREE BEDROOMS MINIMUM Don't tell sellers I'm coming so it can be a nice surprise for both of us, resulting in a comical refusal to let me in the house Only post the shittest properties that have been on the market for years Pretend to be your best mate in order to build a relationship ...and then you have to deal with sellers who have the WORST opinion of the potential of their house lie about the neighbours have an addiction to colours Dulux reserves for oil rigs and battleships believe kitchens should look industrial because they saw a program about it on the tele concrete over everything green in the garden OR place wood over everything green in the garden dogs that stink the house out And I know that when we eventually find somewhere habitable the market will crash again wiping 30% off the value of the property. Oh yea - I LOVE house buying!
