macbeth Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 The guy was very engenius but abit lucky, there will be loads of people trying the same, and majority probably failing!!!! But good on him!! Just talking about about property, my neighbour bought his house for £150k, but 3 years ago my previous neighbour bought it at £86k, that's an example of how house prices have risen and how unlucky us first time\new buyers are, knowing that I could have bought a house possibly double the size\value, only 3 - 4 yeard earlier!!! i sold my council house for 100k............they were furious, i didn't own it
Ric Flair Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 i sold my council house for 100k............they were furious, i didn't own it did you sell their bin aswell? I bet they were seething if you sold one of their crap bins.
macbeth Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 did you sell their bin aswell? I bet they were seething if you sold one of their crap bins. i filled it up with the cash in readies
Dr The Singh Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 i sold my council house for 100k............they were furious, i didn't own it I think that's the way foward!! Council is so mis-managed and inept, they probably wouldn't realise until 10 years after the incident!!!
Teeno Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 My parents brought our house in 1991 for £67k last year when we last had it valued is was valued for £290k although thats 15 years thats Almost 1/4 of a million difference. At the minute there looking for houses to buy for development but you can't really buy houses within melton for less than 100k now. I can't see my self ever being able to afford a house.
Nationwider Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 It's grim up north. But much cheaper to buy a house. And the beer's great!
Daggers Posted 12 July 2006 Author Posted 12 July 2006 We got it, a £127K house in a street where everything else goes for £145+. A bit of TLC and we should be banking it for a change We had to get 4.25x Bird's salary to get the 110K needed, and have used all our savings for the rest. For the next goodness knows how many years we'll be sitting on camping chairs in the lounge and avoiding the garden because it looks like a council tip. I never thought we'd find somewhere...but there you go, I'm wrong again

We're not exactly in finacial utopia, but we're desperate to move somewhere better. I hate making decisions at the best of times - especially when they involve large amounts of money I actually don't have. I need to win the lottery! Does anyone have a scoop on this Saturday's numbers?
The People's Hero Posted 12 July 2006 Posted 12 July 2006 I find my money situation depressing big time. And now I've gotta fork out for 6, maybe 7 tickets to the Ipswich game. NW - if you DO win the lotto... share the wealth mate.

NW - if you DO win the lotto... share the wealth mate. If I win, I'll probably have a heart attack. You're in the NW will though. I'd love to be winning. However, just as you think you've scored a scorcher in front of the home end of Life, the bank manager will be there, waving the offside flag in your face.
TrickyTrev Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 House prices might go down, but they won't go down by much. Considering how house prices were just 6 or 7 years ago and the wages people earned compared to now is astonishing and there's no way it could ever go back to the way it was just a few years ago. At best, house prices will stay the same for the next 5 - 10 years and the average wage is increased to match the massive increase in house prices. In 20 years the average house price has gone up by over £100k, but if it does the same again then surely the country wouldn't be able to cope. They are introducing many schemes to help first time buyers and they'll have to continue to do this, otherwise you'll probably see a bigger increase in youngsters getting themselves up the damien just to get a property (not that that's not happening now!) It's bollocks, move abroad. This country's whack. When markets correct themselves, they tend to go too far the other way I'm afraid. The hosuing market is always ripe for crashing, because it is the largest investment that people ever make they are so sensative to the smallest change in price. If house prices get too high people will literally be unable to afford housing, they wouldn't be able to gaina cess to the credit, when homeowners see house prices falling all these second home owners and "property developers" (fock off is that a job) will shit themselves and want to sell up prompto. There will be a flood of supply in the market and prices will drop like there is no tommorow. People in the 80's thought that there hosue prices could only go up, hundreds of thousands faced negative equity in the early 90's. <_<
Phube Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 I don't mean to be nasty, but I really hope for Interest rates to go up, to around 10%!! I'm on a fixed 10 year interest @ 4.9%. So this'll mean my mortgage will stay the same whilst house prices crash to affordable levels, or sneak in with a cheap repossesion property!!! And my saving will rise faster... Win-win!!

I never thought we'd find somewhere...but there you go, I'm wrong again I've done the same, i bought a property for 120K, where others were £145k, I have been doing my house up slowly and have been doing alot of the work myself, including , plumbing, plastering etc. Basically I will give any diy job a go, and without any diy skilss, i am now quite proficient in alot of things, ie I have totally decorated and fitted a new bath suite\room and have done the kitchen up and put up the new units and tiled etc. It's saved me a fortune!!!
Dellyjo Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 I've twice owed (well rented from the bank!) a house & twice had to sell due to relationships not working out. Now back renting again & want to hopefully buy if & when I return to Leicester. Could be pitching a tent on Vicky park the way the prices are going though!

Gamesmaster Posted 13 July 2006 Posted 13 July 2006 Not only the grape vine and fruit trees you get the bottles of home made spirits they all conjure out of nowhere - and very tasty and tipsyfying too. Inland, you can buy a mansion in Bulgaria for that money (though you might have some repairs to do) or a modest house and enough land to build a small estate. Cheap too, the wine that is. So i could buy a house and build a small football stadium with £100,000?
