id keep him in the team. as long as he is getting chances, he is doing the right thing. theres gonna be a game where he just clicks and will probably score a hat full. id still have a bet he scores 20 this season

Shockingly, I find myself agreeing with Petrescu here. I value Scowcroft as a player, but his movement, control and workrate have been shown up by Connolly to be fair. As a partnership, they don't seem to work. I'm not sure what should be done about it but I don't think that dropping Connolly is the answer.

Connolly's play brings other players in and creates space for his partner as well as midfielders to get forwards.

It's all well and good going on about Connolly's past records etc. I couldn't give a monkeys how many he scored for Wimbledon back in the day. He has missed more easy chances than any other player in our squad, and he is virtually an 'untouchable' in the club. So what if his movement is good - he was brought in to score goals, simple as that. Micky Adams didn't buy him because he creates space for others or has good technique - he bought him because he thought he could score 15-20 goals. On the evidence so far he won't get 10.

Drop him.

Agreed. Problems is who out of our galacticos do we choose to replace him.:huh: <_<

Morris and Wright are unproven. They may not be good enough but we should at least give them a chance to prove that before we January when we will hopefully get someone in. Blake, Benjamin, Dublin, Scowcroft, have all had enough chances to prove how bad they are.

Posted

The thing about Tommy Wright is that he (from what I have seen) gets pushed off the ball a bit to easy. I think CL should give Morris a start - he has impressed me when I have seen him brought on as a sub.

Perhaps instead of changing the players he could change the formation. :) <_<

I may get shouted down for this one, but you've got to look at games to goals ratios here, on that I would give Tricky Trev the nod, he's scored 2 perfectly good goals and has played only a handful of games! You then look at the likes of conners and scowy on 2 and 3 respectively who have played pretty much every game this season and IMO one of them has got to be given a break for someone else to come in and show what they're made of!

Failing that however I wouldn't mind seeing a 3 pronged attacking line up with someone like benji and scowy sitting in front of the middle man connolly, that would suit me fine, lets see what CL has up his sleeve hey!

I agree, Benji should get a chance up front again but him and Connelly could make a good partnership.

From the home matches I've been to this season I've picked up quite a lot on what Scowy is doing, and to me he seems like he is always wandering out to the right wing, where gillespie should be, I really don't like gillespie, I have been dissapointed with him and he hasn't really shown me any reason to change that opinion, If I were CL I would possibly stick scowy back on the right wing for a game with benji and conners in the forward line just to see how that works, because benji is pacey and wins the ball well for himself he doesn't really need a cross to get on the end of like scowy desires!

Gillespie just doesn't seem to have the pace, he will try and cut inside when its easier for him just to run straight down the wing.

You see that's where the problem of sticking Lee Morris on the wing instead of Gillepsie also faulters because he's left footed and although he can beat the man unlike Gillespie the final ball into the box isn't the best unless he cuts in and swings in a left footer! It's either got to be Conners and benji up front or even give morris and conners a go and push scowy to the right to muscle in like he did previous to CL's reign!

Scowy always seemed to be the man in the right place at the right time when he played out wide, and he seemed more free to score than he has done recently, that's just my opinion though!

The thing about Scowcroft being on the right is that he hasn't got much pace either & the only good crosses he can do is with his head :D .

There is so much wrong with our team and I think we need to resign ourselves to the fact we're going no where this season.

I am sure that Craig Levein knows what he wants and who he wants where, it's just going to take time for him to get rid of the dead wood.

I think our Wigan fans right though he's not getting great service and he is a class above on the field, under MA he had to cope with the long ball being played to him all the time, now with CL he's getting used to playing with Scowy, a partnership that isn't working.

I'm prepared to be patient and hope that next season the title will be ours.

I think we have a real problem upfront unless Levein can work miracles, which he appears to have done on the rest of our team. Look at Connolly's record before he joined us, averaged a goal evry other game. So that shows that he is capable of scoring and no doubt will do in future, whether that's with us i'm not sure. But if one man can sort him out it will be Levein, it's not just Connolly who should be criticised though. In my opinion he's more effective than Scowcroft is at the minute, yet Connolly is getting stick and Scowy isn't. They are both paid to score and neither are, simple as that.

If you want to go deeper than that then look at Connolly's game play. When he first came here he played as a striker, wanting the ball at his feet in dangerous areas. He never got that, since then he's gone looking for the ball which has taken him out of scoring opportunities. I think Levein needs to work on the strikers as we are in serious bother. Blake, Dublin, Benjamin and Wright aren't good enough to get us promoted and I don't think dropping Connolly or Scowcroft for any of these is the answer as all of them bar Wright will be elsewhere next season.

We need to get a new striker in asap, but there's the money issues. I just wish Dublin had gone and if we could farm the nutmegger off (Benjamin) then we would have enough money to get a striker in.

Blake and Scowcroft wouldn't work

Dublin and Scowcroft wouldn't work

Blake and Dublin definately wouldn't work

Dublin and Scowcroft wouldn't either

Blake and Connoly no thanks

Connolly and Dublin has already failed

I would like to see Morris or Wright, but i'm not holding any hopes for either of them being prolific. We are in the shit up front, we have always been blessed with goals from strikers in recent years. Just think is we still had Dickhead and Bent or even Ferdinand!!!

Oh well.

Connolly is our best striker, there's just communication problems and confidence problems. I think Levein can sort Connolly out, he's no Akinbiyi or anything. Technically he's an astute footballer and his goal history speaks for itself so there's no reason why he can't sort it out. All our other strikers have questionable history other than Dublin who is well past it now.

I don't think dropping him is the answer. I don't think it's to do with the partnership upfront, it's more down to the lack of decent service they've received. Stewart, Tiatto, Canero and Gillespie have failed to get in a number of decent crosses in to the box. Our set pieces haven't really improved either, so that doesn't help.

We need better service, it's as simple as that. Get some good crosses in for Scowy, he'll prove a nuisance. Play the right passes to Connolly, to his feet, not in the air against centrebacks twice the size of him.

Posted

I'd give him a couple of games on the bench, just to relieve the lad of all this pressure. Whatever we say about him on here, he must be thinking it himself, and that's where it starts to go wrong.

A decent manager would be able to do this without losing the respect of the player, which is where one or two of our previous managers have failed.

Posted

Pardew put Connolly on the bench for a game, he came on and scored, then put in a transfer request...

I'm not suggesting that this would happen again but he is clearly a confidence player... The two positions on this are 1) keep faith with him, show him you have confidence with him and hope it 'clicks' 2) drop him, then give him 10/20 minutes every game until his confidence is back.

I favour playing him up front with Benjamin.

OR behind a front two.

Posted

Playing him behind the front two would help, but I don't think Levein favours this kind of formation.

Unfortunately, football is a results business, and he's not producing at the moment. I'm concerned the longer he's up there not scoring, the more damaging it will be for him as a player. A couple of games on the bench isn't unreasonable, especially if he knew he would be used, barring injuries.

I know about the problems at West Ham, and like I said, a decent manager wouldn't get that kind of reaction if the situation was explained clearly enough.

If only Connolly had scored the penalty at Derby things could have been oh so different.

I think Connolly will come good in the end. If Connolly and Dublin had been scoring goals then Adams might never have been sacked. You can say the team were playing very poorly at the time but look back to last season and we were still poor playing at a higher level but at least the strikers were scoring. Under CL we look in general to be playing better yet still the strikers cant score. Is it the service? are we missing Muzzy?
