golden gordon Posted 12 August 2006 Posted 12 August 2006 Does manuel pablo have a point here? quote "Mr Gibson changing his avatar is wrong, I live in a world where they are people who change their avatars (Kayteh, Master Fox, Cat Burger ) and people who don't ( myself, Tharcian, Ric Flair) This is totally messing with my head" Is regularly changing ones avatar a sign of a deeper malaise within our society? Should we practice more monogamy with avatars or are they there to be used for our capricious pleasures? Are they a fashion statement saying " this is the new black" Am i asking dumb**** questions as usual? Lets have a heated debate

davieG Posted 12 August 2006 Posted 12 August 2006 I've suffered so much remorse and grief since, thinking about how with all the suffering at the football people need some stability and reliability in their lives I've had to change it back.

Katy Posted 12 August 2006 Posted 12 August 2006 In defence of myself here, I haven't changed mine for a couple of months now and will probably change it when Big Brother finishes. I change my avatar to suit my mood, or to conveigh something topical etc. I can't speak for others guilty of this henious crime though

An avatar tends to be part of someone's online identity, so changing it confuses other people. If then, a person also changes their nick, things are even worse. They can literally be confused with a new user!!! And why would they do that? - Is that part of establishing one's identity (and therefore more common in teenage members)? - Is that a sign of malaise, as you say, a bit like asking for help? - Is that a simple custom, like changing your socks ? (I hear some people do that) - Does it simply mean that the user has nothing better to do? - Is it something totally different?
crazy horse Posted 12 August 2006 Posted 12 August 2006 i remain loyal to mine for the simple reason that i can't remember how to change it

golden gordon Posted 12 August 2006 Author Posted 12 August 2006 So why are they called avatars? just a personification of something i suppose, best wait till the bigger boys come along to get a full explanation i thought avatars were a type of bird and i've just realised i was thinking of avocets!!

I'm surprised it hasn't upset some religious order considering some of the avatars that have been posted on various sites.

Rincewind Posted 12 August 2006 Posted 12 August 2006 What is an avatar anyway? Is it not just an emblem by another name? Or should I suffer the outragious misfortune of different avatars slung in my direction. At least when it is time for mine to die I can say Alas poor avatar I knew you well.
Alexikokopops Posted 12 August 2006 Posted 12 August 2006 My avatars recently have just been pictures of me. Well, my last one was which I had for quite a hefty time, and the current one is my sexy behind.

Your signature, though, keeps reminding me of my dad and his horrible death from lung cancer.
