'Supergirl'

 

I thought the actress who played her was very good, as was Jason Momoa, but otherwise it was your average superhero film.

Watched Pressure in a very small cinema in Mablethorpe, when small very tiny. The screen was the size of probably just a big flat screen tv. In terms of the capacity itself, there was about 10-12 in and if another six people turned it would be a tight squeeze. Most weird cinema I been to, you walk into like this shop area selling dvd's, posters, toys and sweets with a counter. There was so much stock round laying around you almost were tripping over things. To be fair it felt like a little family run cinema, there was a friendly man and woman running the cinema who probably own the cinema. Inside to the actual screen everything seemed very clean. It does feel like even though its a small family run cinema, alot pride and passion as gone into this. When comparing to the tower cinema in Skeggy just up the road, which just feels there's a lack of interest. Seen a few films in there over the years when visiting Skeggy and the state of it was just poor, very old and dirty. Plus film choice there was pretty poor only two screens, showing a film sequel about magic with nicole kidman and sandra bullock or documentary show about oasis.... 

 

Anyway onto Pressure, good movie the film as that same feel of like Operation Mincemeat, if you enjoyed that you will like this aswell. Trying to make a movie about the weather during the second war and making it interesting is not going to be easy in what was short period of time. However as it showcases in this movie the weather forecast played crucial role in terms of making sure the d-day landings was a success. Andrew Scott plays CPT James Stagg a meterologist, whose tasked to come up with correct forecast heading of upcoming D-Day landings. Stagg discovers a violent storm heading towards Normandy coast which could jeopardise the mission on the day of the planned landings. Despite these findings he his struggling to convince military commanders Eisenhower (Brendan Fraser) and Monty (Damian Lewis) to postpone the attack. 

 

Performance wise everyone is great, Brendan Fraser once again smashes it as Eisenhower as does his co-starts Scott and Lewis. You do feel sorry for Stagg whose clearly quite the expert and constantly being ignored and questioned about his knowledge and you really want him to be proved right. 

 

If your fond of your world war 2 history, then you will certainly enjoy this. If your wanting an explosion filled, battle movie... erm well not so much in this movie. It's not quite a pearl harbour or saving pvt ryan type movie. I would say it's good sunday evening flick to watch, only on 90 minutes which was probably about right for this story. It's a decent 7/10.

Reminds me that James Stagg did get a brief portrayal in the 1962 epic The Longest Day. What I found remarkable about that film is that Richard Todd actually took part in the action at Pegasus Bridge that is shown in the film. He actually met the officer he played John Howard on the bridge that night.

The Piddlington debacle is a great reminder that this film exists and everyone should watch it:

 

 

One of the best Ealing comedies IMO. 

 

My favourite line, that comes to me every time I go through airport security, is a little old lady after she goes through passport control to cross the Pimlico border:

 

"You'll be inspecting the bags under me eyes next!"

Late to the party, but finally got round to watching Interstellar. 

 

It's a masterpiece. Loved the pacing, the music, the general feel of it. Just so good watching a film with actual substance. 

 

Envious of anyone that witnessed it in the cinema during its release.

I floated out of the cinema after that one. Still remains one of the best movies I have ever seen.

I highly recommend going to see it with a live orchestra performing, and at the BFI IMAX, whenever they're performed/screened - which is reasonably regular. I saw it at the Royal Albert Hall about 10 years ago and it was incredible. 

 

Also watched it at the Space Centre's planetarium, which was decent.
