dandannieldanok Posted 9 September 2006 Posted 9 September 2006 One central midfield. If found, please return to the Walkers Stadium, Filbert Way, Leicester. Thank you. The problem is that today the centre midfield was left at the Walkers Stadium. Gareth Williams!
Nationwider Posted 9 September 2006 Posted 9 September 2006 Midfield was the big issue that needed addressing close-season. It doesn't appear to have been sorted. I hope we haven't cut off our nose to spite our face in not accepting a decent bid for one of our players shortly before the deadline? With the right-back slot appearing to be fairly well protected, could/should a deadline day sale have brought in the cash for a quality midfielder?

Seems to me we are too preoccupied by our youth team players to actually concentrate on the bigger picture.
Babylon Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Seems to me we are too preoccupied by our youth team players to actually concentrate on the bigger picture. So Max Gradel and dodds aren't the answer?????
Vo Rogue Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 The answer is that our 2 mjdfielders that both Kelly and Levein would play have rarely been seen as the pair due to alternating injuries. I'd suspect they will be in place Tuesday nite and provide a much needed spark in the centre.
Guest Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 From what I've been told, even if we had sold anyone, there would be no money available for transfers full stop. Yes, it's that dire.
davieG Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 From the Mockery: According to that statement he didn't even have sufficient budget to sign up Kenton, Low, McAuley & Johnson. "That is firstly on his new signings because, right at the outset, he was clear on what he wanted. "He had a shopping list and it was clear he had some outs - players he didn't see as part of the future - and so we got him the four players he wanted. "He didn't go for peripheral players, he went for individuals who he thought would make us a competitive side. "So I think we did the right thing with that, and at a time when the board had approved the budget for the year which didn't include them. By Bill Anderson No revolving door for the dressing room or the manager's office. That is the new tone being set by Leicester City chairman Andrew Taylor this season. The transfer deadline came and went with predators successfully repelled. That left manager Robert Kelly with the squad he wanted to keep together and it has been, in effect, a double backing. Taylor said: "The board has backed him on two levels. "Secondly, we backed him in terms of interest from other clubs in a number of our players. Otherwise we would be asking the guy to fight with one hand behind his back if we didn't give him these resources." Richard Stearman was the only target revealed but, although interest in others was also high, temptation was resisted. Taylor said: "Balancing the business side is obviously very important, but there are options for the board. Being a trading club is one thing but being a selling club is not the way forward. "Of course, if someone from the Premiership comes along with silly money and it is an offer we couldn't refuse, we wouldn't refuse it. But it is about balance. "I think we did the right thing for the integrity of the club and of the squad and showed absolute faith in the manager and the coaching side. "Robert Kelly said Richard Stearman is the best young player he has worked with. When your manager tells you that, you have to take notice. "He must have had some very good ones come through the academies at Wolves and Blackburn so, when he says that - he has the football knowledge not me - you have got to be prepared to back him. "There were other targets and interest, speculative interest from Premiership clubs as well, and that has got to be good news for the club that people are looking here." It sounds as if Kelly is operating under ideal circumstances with that level of support. Taylor added: "I am reluctant to say it is a vote of confidence because that figure of speech gets abused in football. "The manager wants a core of players and has talked about concentrating his efforts around a nucleus of players. "We looked at the number of players we used and last season it was about 33 and we finished 16th. "The team who used the fewest players, Reading, came first because everyone knew what their jobs were. "To have a revolving door is not right for us. We have got to adopt a different approach. Changing so many players is not good for the manager and not good for the fans. "I, as a fan before I became chairman, had no idea what was going on. "When I first supported the side in the '70s I could reel off six or seven regular players and there was a sense of continuity there. "All the great teams have had this. It is not rocket science. It is about getting the right structure and having a manager who knows what he wants." Continuity of playing staff must be linked with continuity of manager in a very precarious profession, and Kelly is on a year's roll-over contract. But Taylor said: "He is not unhappy with the contract and, given the attrition rate of managers, it is the right thing for the club. "We want a continuity of manager as well. I don't want him ever to think he is five games away from being dismissed. "It must have been a horrible experience for Craig Levein coming back from Plymouth on the coach feeling his days were numbered and his players thinking the same. "It is a brutal business, but I think the fans need patience and the board needs to show leadership in this and exercise caution about these sort of things. "Robert is a good guy. He has got his head screwed on."
ithuriel Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 we should only sell our best players for silly money unless we have a dynamite scouting system that can spot cheap premier class players that other scouts cannot. going by previous signings i doubt we have that kind of scouting system. maybe we should ask harry redknap how he does it

The People's Hero Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Bring back Muzzy. (Haven't done this topic for a while).
Finn Claw Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Wesolowski and Porter or Wesolowski and Hume perhaps, I think he has to change the central midfield partnership

Thracian Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 Seems to me we are too preoccupied by our youth team players to actually concentrate on the bigger picture. They are the bigger picture from what I can see in the present circumstances.
lookwhaticando Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 I have the answer! Wesolowski will boss the midfield, Porter will take up an attacking midfield role, and Joe Mattock can take the left wing. Low or Gradel on the right wing. Wesolowski Low/Gradel Mattock Porter Sorted!

I feel sure that he wants to attack but what seems to be a cautious nature leaves him forever hedging his bets and it means too many attackers defending and not enough defenders attacking. I won't labour them but there were lots of little examples of that on Saturday.
Nationwider Posted 10 September 2006 Posted 10 September 2006 It's not just about this season though -stearman will be good in future years True, but sometimes you have to realise an asset when it's at its most valuable. RS is currently occupying a place on the bench in a mediocre Championship squad. We have adequate cover in Kenton and Maybury as well. I'm not advocating selling all the family silver. It's just that we might have got (my wild guess) £1M for him last week - the end of August always inflates prices (David Connolly, £3M etc). Still - it's all academic if, as Leesoh says, the cash wouldn't find its way back to Kelly.
Guest Posted 12 September 2006 Posted 12 September 2006 One central midfield. If found, please return to the Walkers Stadium, Filbert Way, Leicester.Thank you. I take it noone has found it yet?
