It's easy to blame the stadium with hindsight but if the team were performing to a decent level, it wouldn't be so much of an issue. Filbert Street would be even more of an eyesore these days considering how many teams have similar stadia to ourselves.

And no, I'm not Mystic Meg !! Simply we couldn't get planning permission to develop it in a practical way that increased the seating capacity and the off field earnings. If we were still there, gates would be below 15K and outr income stream from off field endeavours would be consideraby less. Fair enough we wouldn't need to be earning as much but hindsight solves many problems unfortunately it's not available when you need it.. Obviously our stadium debt is a massive millstone but is not the major factor in the poor atmosphere or missing magic of attending football; major factors for me would be: Performance on the pitch, not just results but attitude and belief Affinity with the players The lack of an unreserved seating area The stewarding Juniors all over the stadium - no offence to them The layout/allocation of the stands e.g Family/Away/Kop The illogical pricing structure e.g age groups and East /West Stands The playing of music at inappropriate times These all contribu

The pricing is resonable, considering other teasm prices and the fact that most of the people that create an atmosphere in the kop are under the age of 21 ( your reference to junioirs). Also I would like to ask wether you voted to move the kop? I did and i still would campaign for it.
Shipman Out Posted 1 October 2006 Posted 1 October 2006 The feel of going down the football has changed so much for me, not just here but most places You always knew that when Sat morning came you were going to have a good day out after a week at work Filbo was mecca!, that is no longer the case the football dictates the day you are gonna have before it was the laugh on the terrace (and when kop got seated) for me its a big shame it has changed. Portsmouth and Cardiff seem to still have the old buzz I agree with the reasons in the above DavieG post about the Walkers...spot on i just hope it will change as time goes by, imagine one end as a Standing terrace the ground would look well good standing in a terrace it would have a soul? id buy a season ticket regardless of how the team is playing!

I know its easy to blame him but all i've got to say on the matter is £25 million.... If only we let Martin have the money to spend he may have stayed, probably not seeing as it was Celtic who came in for him but it would have made him think about staying. Having the new stadium didn't help us but if it was for bastard Taylor we probably would have survived in the Prem (No-one can be certain about that but i'd say it's quite likly we would have stayed there) and no-one can say any of the shite we have had in the last 5 years wouldn't have happened but we'd have alot more money now if we hadn't of employed Taylor. Most of the shite in the last 5 years links back to Taylor somehow the biggest of them all - Lack of Money.

Lots of clubs have their 'Kop' and away supporters at opposite ends of the ground. As for juniors I have no problem with them as such but they mess up the crowd demographics. If the ground had a more even pricing structure then people would go where they preferred to be rather than where they can afford to be. If you then made the centre of the Kop, whichever end it was unreserved seating (with or without season tickets with no concessions you would draw in the 16 to 35 year olds ( more or less) these tend to be the more vocal supporter, who likes to stand and swear a bit. This I believe will do a number of things. It would allow like minded people together It would allow spontaneous attendance. It would allow groups of friends, especially those that because of circumstances can't attend every match to meet and sit together It would encourage the vocalists to arrive earlier All of this would produce the right environment for building up an atmosphere of singing before the game commences and you would be more likely to get spontaneous original songs. I guess what I'm saying is you will replicate the 'away' factors.

And the conclusion was it couldn't be done, because of the proximity of houses on two sides. The club could never have got planning permission.

Imagine what it would have been like if we'd had a half-decent team! We got 31,000 average gate because it was our first season back in the prem. That always happens when teams get promoted. We are down to average gate of 19,0000, whats happend to the 10,000 missing ones. I guess there be back if we played a play off final or a cup final. I feel they built the staduim too big, made it so dull and like other stadums. The kop should have had its own stand and be too tier and the away fans behind one goal. about 26,000 would have been fine, not too big and not too small.
