Head Honcho Posted 10 October 2006 Author Posted 10 October 2006 Got ma hopes up then! :pinch: Come on Louis, Bag a goal. Are they winning? Yeh 1-0 They're bound to win I've gotta bet on Exeter
lcfc_jme Posted 10 October 2006 Posted 10 October 2006 I was gona have a guess at Dodds as well when I saw the thread title !! Ah well... Hows he playing??
Leicester Lass Posted 10 October 2006 Posted 10 October 2006 Subbed after 63 mins. What do we think? Lack of match fitness or just plain sh!tness?
davieG Posted 10 October 2006 Posted 10 October 2006 What do we think? Lack of match fitness or just plain sh!tness? That's his first 'proper' game since last season.
Nationwider Posted 10 October 2006 Posted 10 October 2006 Playing with completely new players, it's bound to take a few games for the chap to fit in. Best give him 5-6 games before judging him - to be honest, the standard he's playing at is probably worse than reserve team football. It'll probably be more competitive and physical though - which might take a bit of adjusting to.
Fox Genius Posted 10 October 2006 Posted 10 October 2006 I often go and see the mighty green and white trickies. Next time I do I'll post a report on how he does. Already got my NVFC v Man United tickets - no seriously..... Fox genius
Foxes_Trust Posted 10 October 2006 Posted 10 October 2006 We have already arranged for the NV Trust to provide a report on Dodds progress before the end of his month's loan, which will be published on our website. We will also feature a report on Sheehan's first month at the Stags from Team Mansfield (their Trust) within the next few days
Thracian Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 Commendable but I hope no-one's going to read too much into brief loan periods. a) Both players were less than fit when their loans started. b) Players do well in part because they are familiar with the players around them - assuming they have a pattern of play which isn't the case with our first team. I would thin it would take time even to get their team-mates names right.

Thracian Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 In other words I good report is fine but and an indifferent one not worth teh paper it's written on? Does that mean you disagree. That you believe a player can miss the first two months of the season and expect to be match sharp and that he can be expected to gel immediately with people he doesn't know. I look forward to our next old timer's arrival....

I look forward to our next old timer's arrival.... No, I think he means on one hand you make a big song and dance about any good performances that Sheehan makes, then you say people shouldn't read much into loan spells. That's what I read it to mean anyway?????

Thracian Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 No, I think he means on one hand you make a big song and dance about any good performances that Sheehan makes, then you say people shouldn't read much into loan spells. That's what I read it to mean anyway????? I think I've already said that Sheehan's inconsistency bothers me. Sheehan had a fair bit of close season football and is now on his second month having had quite a busy first month at Mansfield. Consequently I see no reason why he shouldn't be on top of his form. With Dodds, he's not had the football, only got an hour last night, doesn't know the Northwich players and can't be expected to be on top form for a while. Someone, I'm sure, will explain what's unfair about what's unreasonable about my reservations about judgements which don't take mitigating factors into consideration.

gatesheadfox Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 the only time i've seen sheehan play a game properly was when he started for the first time for the first team, and seemed to want to get sent off. having not seen him since my judgement still comes from that experience. left back is a problem so it would be great for him to come through though.
Thracian Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 People keep saying the manager knows best but, if Sheehan is not going to take the last strides on what was a promising journey up to last October, we're certainly going nowhere without an attacking left-back from somewhere.
Fox Genius Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 Eh? So do you agree with me? Tharcian, I think I'll take you apparent reluctance to answer me as a 'yes you do agree with me', and only post a review of Dodds if he has a good game as anythign written on a poro preformance woudl be due to otehr mitigating circumstance...................... Actually I'll just write about what I see as I'm sure people will be more interested in a more comprehensive review.
Thracian Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 I've watched Dodds for two years. I've seen him score around 30 or his 40-odd goals in that time. I'm bloody sure I don't need the evidence of a one month loan spell at Northwich to tell me he's any good. And if the manager chooses to pick Sylla ahead of him for a Cup match where we're winning 3-1 not long from the end then I doubt it will matter a shit how he plays at Northwich anyway. Seeing as Dodds leads Sylla by about 60-0 on goals scored for Leicester then I'd call that an insult. And talk about perfect temperament. Dodds must be the most laid back and acquiescent lad to put up with it for a minute.

So you are saying play him even if he's not up to it?
Thracian Posted 11 October 2006 Posted 11 October 2006 So you are saying play him even if he's not up to it? Quite the contrary. I'm saying we cannot wait forever to see if Sheehan's going to come through or not. We should get ourselves a proper left-back whatever. Another year or two down the line and young Mattock might be asking the serious questions. As far as Sheehan is concerned he's clearly got consistency problems. My own attitude to this is simple - and one of the reasons I'd have shipped Hughes and Johnson out of our side long ago. I expect 7.5 good games out of 10 on average. And good games would be qualified, depending on position, by such things as assists, goals, clean sheets, chances created, whatever criteria was most appropriate to the shirt. It would be left to guesswork. If you think I'd ever be soft on what I expect of Sheehan just because he's young, you don't know me.
