Thracian Posted 22 November 2006 Posted 22 November 2006 Im suffering from a distinct lack of it at the moment. Any ideas to 'gee' me up? I'm with Manwell. I think your one of the loveliest posters on the forum. Ideas? Buy £100 worth of small Christmas presents and take em down to the Children's Ward of the Royal Infirmary or your nearest hospital. Or just find a way of helping someone/cheering them up. Other than that try to write down why you lack self-esteem and set yourself little targets and challenges for putting things right. But tackle them one by one with the attitude if at first you don't succeed ....it just adds to the challenge. Oh yes. And read something really funny. There's nothing like laughter to restore your frame of mind and to help you to laugh at your ow setbacks and failings. They'll not seem so bad then. Hope that helps. And good luck.
Janx Posted 22 November 2006 Posted 22 November 2006 Kayteh... seriously as a long term "lack of self esteemer" this probably aint the place for discussion. but I can recommend Paul Mckenna's... change your life in 7 days OK he may seem a tosser, but the lessons are extremely useful... trust me, underneath this confident gobshite exterior is a little boy with lots of complex issues.... However before all the harcases on here start taking a pop.... the best person to help you is YOU! You need to feel good in your own skin and its something lots of us have issues with. Read, listen to tapes and advice but take small steps and start by saying very re-affirming things about yourself.. !. Im a strong confident woman 2. people like me 3. I am a nice person etc and NEVER NEVER say nasty things about yourself.
Manwell Pablo Posted 22 November 2006 Posted 22 November 2006 That doesn't really help and it's a serious request. Bit of a snappy response, I was geuinley attempting to be nice.
Janx Posted 22 November 2006 Posted 22 November 2006 Bit of a snappy response, I was geuinley attempting to be nice. thats someone with a lack of self esteem replying MP... No-one with it will believe that they are attractive and clever when someone says it.... until they believe it themselves...viscious soycle like!

Sorry MP, I didn't mean to snap at you but what Janks said is bang on. They dont, but they take the edge off... Ive been on and off em for years and two years ago decided to work myself out of it... Have you considered a job..not meant to sound flippant, but it gives you a reason to get up, go to work, have a different life to "being a mum" and is "your time and place" to feel good about yourself and can make a difference to an organisation. It also gives you a social life. I bet you are a great Mum, but they take their toll on you and sap your self esteem...in a lot of cases. my mrs was miles better when she went back to work. just a thought I need to go out now, but remember, you ARE what people say you are and not what you think you are. You just need to believe what you want to be...try and decide what you ideal image of you is...strong confident, attractive, whatever it may be and visualise and focus on that person...the more you focus the more it will be true, as the ideal image is your self image waiting to happen!
hairy Posted 22 November 2006 Posted 22 November 2006 I suffered from that a few years ago now. Mainly down to the amount of cannabis I used to smoke. I could talk to anyone, including friends, without feeling nervous etc I went on a trip around the world by myself and that really did the trick. Even found myself a wife while in Oz. That may not suit you but you need to set yourself some daunting challenges to get over any reasons why your self esteem is down. For example (and I am not saying you have) if you feel you have put on weight, set a target loss, get on a diet and beat your target.
The People's Hero Posted 22 November 2006 Posted 22 November 2006 Also try to do something for yourself. Indulge a bit. Doesn't have to be something expensive or even time consuming. Could be listening to some of your favourite tracks on a cd, running and enjoying a nice bath, getting your nails done, watching a favourite film, calling and speaking to a friend whom you haven't called in a while... or even just reading loveletters etc you've received in the past. I'm pretty rubbish at this, but it's what I'd suggest-o.

Bless you Janks, because of where I live (in the very much sticks) it's very difficult to get a job and get decent childcare. I was planning on getting a 'proper' one when Ella goes to school (next year ) I am trying to build my business up again as Ive let it slip in the past year and would really like to make a go of that again. Im not housebound but having a lack of money restricts me a bit, but I go out and I see Cobbo and my friends and go to the footy and me and Stez do stuff on the odd occasion. I am actually wrapping Christmas presents at the moment which is cheering me up no end! I might actually attempt to do some of the things you mentioned James, I actually have no commitments until friday!
Manwell Pablo Posted 22 November 2006 Posted 22 November 2006 do people with low self esteem never consider that they may just "be" useless gits and stop fishing for compliments  I'd get behind the nearest large solid object if I were you.
Katy Posted 22 November 2006 Author Posted 22 November 2006 do people with low self esteem never consider that they may just "be" useless gits and stop fishing for compliments I did wonder if people might think that when I started this thread. Ive found the advice given on here very useful and has actually helped - not a bad thing surely? People can pay me all the compliments in the world but I never take them on board - so not really fishing.
Guest Posted 23 November 2006 Posted 23 November 2006 I'm sorry Kayteh, but reading this has made me cry.
