Phube Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Him and Andy from Longeaton... It's a realisation I've just had. People who are never happy with Manager appointments, the board etc. will eventually be proved right in the end, especially at a club like Leicester. Only two possible outcomes for a manager: 1) Ends up being crap and gets sacked (95%), hence bad decision all along... 2) End up being damn good, leaves for a 'bigger' club, hence 'knew he'd leave all along'... bad decision!! So whoever we appoint next (if at all). Do I jump on the Anti bandwagon early and be pessimistic, so I'll be right in the end? Discuss...

Master Fox Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 I don't think it's a question of wanting to be right in this case, I think it's more to do with believing in what's the best way forward for the club. At present and the last two seasons we've been neck deep in sh*t and are desperately needing someone or something to pull us out of this awful slump. I’ve never liked Rob Kelly since pre-season when I read on OS ‘City sign Andy Johnson and Josh Low’. From the moment we kicked off a Luton back in August the warning lights were flashing so evidently it was blinding. But a few wins covered the sh*t from the sun for while! Now the inevitable has happened and we can’t let ourselves be in the same situation with Levein last season. We may not be as lucky this time around!
lookwhaticando Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 Let's quit the Football league and play by ourselves. We could form a league by pitting the Academy against the first team, with the reserves forming a third team in our own little 'league'. That way we don't have to worry if we appointed a shit manager who we have to pay off, or a good one who'll leave us. The beauty of this scheme is that we'll finally learn how good the kids are compared to our first team.
Thracian Posted 29 November 2006 Posted 29 November 2006 There's no doubt it is easier to be proved right being anti-manager than pro because by definition, only three teams in a League are ever definitively successful in a season - the rest have different degrees of failure or, at least, frustration. Which is why I said on another thread that I am sad about Kelly. I didn't expect too much this season. When we talked about our likely achievements I think I said anything mid-table or above would be the likely expectation. All I really wanted to see was some acknowledgement of defence-overload being abandoned, ability to recognise and rectify obvious weaknesses and a move towards a balanced, co-ordinated team which was prepared to take people on. Like Babylon (I think) it does our club no good to keep changing managers. But the philosophy and approach of a manager matters. Not to everyone - some don't care so long as we collect points - but it does to me. To list Kelly's failings in this respect is only to cover old ground. Because of his inexperience, I hoped he would adjust, sometimes I even think he tries to adjust - like last night. But then he - or his team which he controls - seems to lose nerve. We didn't drive forward for another goal when we had Norwich rattled, we tried to consolidate. It was exactly the same at, for example, QPR, Sunderland even Southend when we won. That's not the mindset I think will get us promotion. And whether RK will ever change in this respect I don't know but the fact he hasn't so far suggests the biggest problems of all with him...his inexperience and stubbornness. RK's got some commendable qualities but adding the ruthlessness and psychological cleverness that might make him a good manager doesn't seem natural. But even now I have lingering doubts about replacing him, especially as I don't know who we'd get instead. There is no point swopping like for like. Any new man must have qualities which are proven and which offer something that we're unlikely to ever get with Kelly. That becomes less likely the further we tumble down the table. If Keegan was coming I'd say yes. If Curbishley was coming I'd say okay. But there's not many other likely candidates whose names are likely to inspire confidence in their ability to offer a new dawn. Ironically someone touched on an idea which was utterly ridiculed by some on the forum...Kelly should talk to Beaglehole and have the humility to take some of his ideas on board. It's not as difficult as you might think. I forever consult my sons on things I don't know about or things I'd perhaps like a different perspective on. Football is football whatever the level. And if I were bottom and my son ran a team which was top and with style, I'd have no problem picking his brains. And no problem listening either. If it didn't work, I'd think again. But at least I'd give alternatives a proper try. Maybe, just maybe, the right answer lies in our own ranks. Assuming we don't attract the calibre of people we need. But if he stays, Kelly sure needs some proper help. If - and it's a big if judging by his response to pleas for him to attack - he's prepared to take it. He needs a lot of help - and in several different areas from what I can see. But any change needs to come quicky. If we drop down into the bottom three again - we just might not get out this time, especially if MM were to change his mind.

I make no apologies for being right, the evidence is there, I repeatedly say "the answers are out there" sadly it seems to take far too long for people to stumble across them.

Here is my Barton (Fox Mulder) like prediction, the next manager will do things we don't like and so will Mandaric. Oh and the clues are out there.
