"Our crowd on Saturday has sent shockwaves across the industry.

From the OS.

Leicester City fans helped the club to post the third highest attendance in the country on Saturday.

Over 30,000 supporters crammed into the Walkers Stadium to help cheer Rob Kelly's side to a 2-0 victory over in-form Barnsley - the club's biggest home crowd for almost three years.

Just Arsenal and Newcastle United recorded a higher attendance than the Foxes on the day - while the likes of Aston Villa, Charlton Athletic, Reading and Wigan Athletic were left in their wake.

Leicester's crowd was also the highest recorded in the Championship that afternoon - and was the third highest attendance registered for a single game during the campaign (Sunderland 1-0 Sheffield Wednesday 36,764 and Sunderland 1-1 Leicester City 35,104).

And the Foxes are now hoping for another record-breaking attendance when Cardiff City are the visitors on Saturday.

A City spokesman said: "Leicester City can proudly hold their heads up high at a time when falling attendances are a hot topic of conversation at a number of Premiership and Championship clubs.

"The atmosphere inside the stadium was electric and there is no doubt that the fans played their part in the victory.

"Our crowd on Saturday has sent shockwaves across the industry. But we must not take our foot off the pedal. We have got another massive game against Cardiff City at the Walkers Stadium on Saturday and the supporters can again play their part."

Tickets are currently on general sale for the Cardiff fixture, and are priced at just £1 for under 16s.

Tickets are available from the main ticket office, by telephone on 0870 499 1884, on line using the e-tickets facility at lcfc.com, or by e-mail at [email protected]

Smacks of desperation.

Same people who ruined this club. Let them rot in hell and make sure they stay there

I don't get what exactly is wrong with this apart from them making it a bigger deal than it perhaps it.

??

Because people like to critisise anything and everything the club does.

No it's because it is so over the top it becomes an embarrasment, yes it was a big crowd but there were good reasons for that, none of it to do with us playing good, attractive match winning football or having a consistently massive support. There was nothing particulalry special about it.

That old chestnut. ;)

In fairness, though, that is a wild statement to make. lol

I'm not saying it wasn't.... But, does it really warrant "Same people who ruined this club. Let them rot in hell and make sure they stay there"?

At the moment there are more important things to worry about than some idiot with an English A level "fluffing up" his stories for the website.

Just my opinion.

Well I don't see Dave Whelan grabbing the phone in a panic and saying "operator, get me batman!", but there's nothing wrong with a bit of enthusiasm.

You won't fit in here, your outlook is far too positive. ;)

Oh it's not at all, I just don't whine for the sake of it. :P

Don't let the dark side convert you, Barton and friends will try just don't give in!!!

I feel that if the atendance was below 20'000 then people would be moaning asking why the club doesn't do enough to attract people to watch the games.

When the club does try something (which has worked) people still moan!

The bottom line line is IT WORKS. If the club needs to overhype the attendance and its significance to get people through the turnstiles then it is a positive move as far as im concerned. Especially if it going to help get us 'potential investors'.

Yes it does because this club hierarchy has been completely distasteful in its operandus and such simple statements like these manifest the complete disorder around the club even in the website team. My statement was probably rude and over the top, but then I had just come from university to read that club debt was in fact higher than was let on. And to decieve a potential acquirent of the club, letting him wait nearly three weeks and possibly deluding the fans is yes the sign of an adminstration which cannot be tolerated for longer. This club is about so much history and great players it pains us all to see a team in decline and furthermore read such insulting crap on the OS.

Shockwaves in the industry indeed, but which industry. I for one, was not in favour of Mandarich, his being an enterprenaur. But if he puts the house in order. Then welcome

But you don't actually know any of the things you just said are true. Hence my point about people critisising the club about everything.

the point is even if Wigan were giving the tickets away against Sheffield United they probably wouldnt have sold out their ground, yet a club like Leicester can get more fans in. its a bigger city in a lower division. Whatever way you look at it though the 3rd highest attendance in england is an achievement in itself

do you think gettin poles in ever corner of the ground is a good Idea so we could get some birds down from Stolettos or The Avery as i think that may bring in a few who may not have considdered coming down the city and we maybe able to get up to 2nd on the attendance charts?

Shockwaves is a bit strong, perhaps. But where we were in the league, after that shocking result against Wednesday at the last home game and 2 seasons of disappointment, I thought that was still one fine crowd that might have surprised some, and embarrassed others. Even with the cheap/given away tickets.

And this time, the second half, with both the football and the oddly happy atmosphere, might have convinced some to come again. Not knowing that is merely the prelude to a lifetime of dashed hopes and dark despair.

I feel that I must apologise to all for my cynical nature. Take it as read that a severe reprimanding has been admonished, and it shall never happen again.

Bravo City!!

Before indulging in such hype perhaps those in charge of our club should consider why a team that can attract 30000 fans should languish in 18th place in this league, while a team with only 5000 fans are in the top six!

Size isn't everything., it's what you do with it that matters....
