Louise Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 After the 4-1 Sheff Wed defeat: Why city's players gave festive party the red card by BILL ANDERSON Leicester City's first-team squad took the almost-unprecedented step of cancelling Christmas following their miserable run last month, it has emerged. Robert Kelly's players pulled the plug on their annual festive knees-up as the date of their night out on the town coincided with their appalling return of just one point from six Championship games. After the final defeat in that bleak sequence, the 4-1 home defeat by Sheffield Wednesday at the beginning of the month, the squad decided that to be seen out "celebrating" would not be the right thing to do. Skipper Paddy McCarthy said: "We had done nothing to deserve it and had nothing to feel jolly about." The squad's move to cancel their celebrations obviously worked. Almost as soon as they made their decision, two wins, at Wolves and last Saturday at home against Barnsley, followed. Christmas celebrations for high-profile football teams have become the stuff of legend. Recently, Liverpool's night-out as comic super-heroes found its way on to the pages of the tabloids while, in the past, City players have been pictured in fancy-dress outfits. * For a small part of last season, City's Australian contingent of Danny Tiatto, Patrick Kisnorbo and Paul Henderson were pestered by the same question on the same topic, after every game, every training session until eventually they cried "enough". That has all changed because, strangely, no-one wants to even mention the word "Ashes" to them now. http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/details.asp?b...6269754|p|536|0
Anish Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 Shows that the players do have some respect for their supporters. They would have been lambasted on here and elsewhere in the media had they been caught celebrating after the Sheff Wednesday game - so it was both wise and sensible for them to cancel it. The players deserve credit on this one.

The players deserve credit on this one. Not really it shows that they were told it would look bad, by the management or board, and it would.
The People's Hero Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 Not really it shows that they were told it would look bad, by the management or board, and it would. Spot on. So they had a covert one, not in Leicester. I expect.
Anish Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 Not really it shows that they were told it would look bad, by the management or board, and it would. How do you know that? The players could've made the decision on their own accord.
Babylon Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 Not really it shows that they were told it would look bad, by the management or board, and it would. You know that for a fact. Or is this just your opinion again?
The People's Hero Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 No one KNOWS it, just like you don't KNOW for a fact that they haven't celebrated by having a party of some sort, somewhere at some time for Christmas.
fosseman Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 I don't think they deserve a party. If anyone else had worked as poorly as them, they would have been sacked! Bah Humbug!! java script:emoticon('', 'smid_17')
dandannieldanok Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 It's probably back on now we have won two on the trot
Hullfox Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 Whether they decided themselves or it was suggested to them shouldn't really matter. Credit where credit's due. It was cancelled. Can't we just accept that for once the right thing has been done and somebody has thought about the bigger picture.
Floating Fox Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 It's probably back on now we have won two on the trot So it should be.
Manwell Pablo Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 So it should be. Got to be done before the Xmas fixtures, to many games in a short space of time to be getting pissed.
Head Honcho Posted 20 December 2006 Posted 20 December 2006 Spot on. So they had a covert one, not in Leicester. I expect. It's funny you should say that! A couple of squads out on the piss in Dublin on the weekend! Most of the Southend players were rat-arsed drinking in Temple Bar on Saturday and the Wigan squad in Hard Rock Cafe on Sunday although to be fair to them they all looked in good shape but then it was only 6pm at the time, didn't hang around so don't know how they ended up.

Can't we just accept that for once the right thing has been done and somebody has thought about the bigger picture. Spot on Theres no need to criticise everything the club does. I couldn't care less if the players were told to do this or did it because they felt it was the right thing to do. What matters is that some section of the club realised that they ought to cancel the Christmas party (or maybe hold a low key one elsewhere), but still people on here have to look for an angle from which to complain.
