Isn't he paid £90,000 a week for services to football?

Is that excluding his sponsorship money and his adverts lol?? Seriously though, his performances for Liverpool mean he does actually deserve it :)

If that read England, and was true, I'd be more inclined to agree with you.

Airy fairy mate  Everyone has their own opinion and all that :) Still, I agree that he should actually start playing for England the way he plays week-in, week-out for Liverpool :yesyes:

The honours system is a meaningless irrelevance as far as sportspersons are concerned. The fact that most of England's Ashes winners received MBEs is proof of that.

Gerrard is a nice guy and a good role model. But he earns an obscene amount of money for what he does, regardless of how well he does it. He should politely decline it, and donate a month's salary to charity. As already pointed out, he has done very little for his country either.

Save the honours for the lollipop ladies, teachers and fund raisers of this world.

Disappointed in Garth. Would have been nice to see him say "Member of the British Empire? fook you, mate!"

Nice to see him honoured, though. Wonder how much he had to pay

Steven f'kin' Gerrard, for what?????

What a load of mouldy old cock cheese that is, what has he done to merit that? Mr. Liverpool my arse, he only stayed because the jolly Scoucers told him what for after he asked to leave.

Also Zara Philips (great achievements and all that) but shes a bloody Princess is that not enough :dunno:

Shove the Monarchy up their collective 'arris.

i've always thought the honours system was a bit silly but the way this goverment has used the system to make themselve look 'with it' (sir mick jagger ffs, dame ellen macathur she's only 23) makes me think that the whole thing should be scrapped.

Aren't you supposed to get these things at the end of your career.

Along with releasing an Autobiography

Some people think otherwise !

Apparently Wes Brown is starting his autobiography soon lol

That is a joke ! What does he have to right about... "My Breakthrough" ... " A 7 page thriller about how a young man got into the first team at Old Trafford."

The Birch got an an MBE for his Charity Work. To be fair its not as if the Sportsman ask to be given these awards. They get nominated for them by other people and personally i don't have a problem with anybody receiving one if they've done charitable work or brought pleasure to peoples lives. What i don't agree with is giving out honours to time serving Civil servants no one knows or highly paid Film stars and Musicians who live abroad - ie Sean Connery who claim to love Britain but love it so much they won't pay their taxes here.
