Parking Beware - New Years Day

Recommended Posts

Posted

Just a thought, as I understand it tomorrow is the first day Leicester City Council become responsible for on street parking and have trained up a special team to hand out fines to those flouting the law.

I'd hazard a guess that they will be busting a gut to make a big public impression and with the Tigers at home footy/rugby fans could become an easy target.

Bear in mind that although it's Bank Holiday normal working day restrictions apply, so don't go assuming it's like a Sunday.

You've been WARNED,

i usually park on morrisons, in a corner where i thought i'd go un-noticed.

the last home game i come back to my car around 5:10pm and i am hit with a £25 fine.

i didnt know maximum stay on match days was 90 mins (a clever ploy)

so morrisons users beware!!!!

I usually park around freemans common on the grass near the dry dock....is that allowed?

wouldnt know but the police / ticket inspectors these days make it up as they go along. before you leave your car make sure it is legally parked is the answer.

a few seasons ago my dad parked in leicester college freemans park, after the game we came out and it was locked up. DOH!!!! had to wait untill monday when college was open to get it back. lol.

No and I've heard of people getting tickets there in the past. It's just that for the last 2/3 years there's been virtually no policing of parking - this is about to change.

This is not good news. Where else are we supposed to park. Bloody council!! :banghead:

You've been WARNED,

You're one day out - the City Council takes over from the ****stabulary on Tuesday 2nd January. Still a valid warning though because the outgoing lot might want to go with a bang.

As well as all the factors that you mention, Central Trains are on strike and there will be many fewer buses than usual - hence even more cars chasing the few available places.

Well you can take the risk, the chances are they will first of all concentrate on the Town Centre, but may be just arsy enough to have a flying visit to the Aylestone Rd area, probably concentrating on keeping roads clear as there will be guaranteed easy pickings which will pay for their annual costs in one day.

If other people park there then I reckon I will give it a bash

Thanks for the warning. But what sort of arseholes ever agree to be employed doing jobs like that?.

Forget that question - cos I suppose, that if the council made a law that said first born children would all be slaughtered, some folk would step forward to impose their bit of power.

In fact something similar happened if the Bible's to be believed!

Don't get me wrong. I'm all for "no parking" where it truly affects the flow of traffic down a street. But the idea of preventing parking where there's plenty of space and where the whole idea is really to legally extort more money from an already overtaxed public is a disgrace.

As a matter of principle I wouldn't help a traffic warden if I found one shot at my feet in the street. They make people's lives a misery and relish doing so from what I can see.

At the last City game they booked half the cars parked on the road on the West side of the Swan and Rushes - and that's a bloody cul-de-sac.

In fact there's hardly any traffic down there at all on a Saturday.

Thanks, I stand corrected, I wasn't 100% certain.

Seems you're alright for tomorrow Maybes but future match days could be dodgy.

They've put yellow lines in where there is simple no logical traffic need for them.

That happened to me 2 seasons ago - it was a £50 fine at the time, although if you paid within 2 weeks they'd accept £25.

I've never parked there again since that day and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone else.

We park up near De Monfort Hall, on street pay and display so it wont change us.

I park in the Parents and Toddlers spots at Morrisons because I give Levi a lift to the games. Mind you, a policeman did have a word with me last time as he wasn't in his booster seat.

Pity you don't give two or three of the old timers a lift and make em walk in from Breedon. A few weeks like that and they might last 90 minutes or be able to support an attack or two.

I usually park on the Freemans Park car park (I think its called that - the one which has the Odeon). You've got to be careful as they have two people checking who's going into the car park where the enterance is but I sneakily go through the exit :P:ph34r:

I normally park on lavender Rd or on Imperial Ave north of Fosse Rd. Never had a problem parking..no restrictions up there either. :)

You've been WARNED,

I've got news for you.."the purple pirates" have been lurking for weeks,Western Road Braunstone Gate and all the side Roads off the bottom end of Narborough Road where there are restrictions are a target, the parking restrictions in all areas surrounding the ground will increase as well before the start of next season. It's a measure to ease congestion and to try and force as many fans as possible onto public transport (fat chance!)

I quite like the system that Southampton use...a free(according to the Cardiff program) park and ride for away supporters. Cheeky buggers were charging £3 to park up though...so not exactly free. However, the bus ride to and from the ground was quick and efficient. I'm really glad I used it.

They also had a park and ride for home supporters too...must have been a condition for the development of St Marys.
