Wilkesy Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 Scored the second tonight He is the 1st englishman to score for Arsenal since Sol Campbell - Champ League Final (i think) Says it all really. Wot do people think about Arsenal and their foreigners?
Libertine Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 Couldn't care less about the English players tbh. I'd buy loads of English players if I managed in France.
Wilkesy Posted 2 January 2007 Author Posted 2 January 2007 i would probably do the same but i just thought it was a good statistic considering this is the ENGLISH Premier League
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 i would probably do the same but i just thought it was a good statistic considering this is the ENGLISH Premier League Henderson - AUS Maybury -IRE McAuley -IRE Kisnorbo - Aus Johanson - SWE Hughes - SCO Williams - SCO Johnson WAL - AUS Tiatto - AUS Hammond - GHA Hume - CAN Loga - IRE, Sylla IVO, Wesolowski AUS, McCarthy IRE Seeing as we're a second tier team and I can name nearly a squad full of non English players that play on a regular basis for us (Weso has the fewest apperances out of that lot with 9) I'd say we can't talk. EDIT: Correction, Sylla has the fewest apperances with 6.
Joe. Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 I would prefer to see more Englishmen in the Arsenal team personally. It would see Englishmen playing together regularly and would help our National team out a lot. I wouldn't mind it if teams in England were numbered to limited amounts of foreigners in their side.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 Manwell, he make good point. In fact, in our best XI based on this season's performances you could argue there would only be one English player. (Henderson/Logan, Maybury, Johansson, McAuley, Kisnorbo, Williams, Tiatto, Hughes, Porter, Hume, Hammond.) You might not want to pick Hughes in that but the rest is pretty much beyond dispute? Stearman and Fryatt certainly don't deserve to be in there.

Manwell Pablo Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 Ah but these are pretty much all crap anyway. Arsenal's players are good... Their financial situation and the way they've had to run their club is a reason to defend them having to bargin hunt for players like Senderos, Clichy, Fabergas and Flamini for a fraction of the price of players like Rio Fedinand and Wayne Roony. It's not as if they don't produce the talent. David Bently, Jermaine Pennant,, Ashley Cole and now Justin Hoyte. All English Premier league players who have been bought through by Wenger at Arsenal. Not many prem teams can boast that, certainly not Chelsea.

Take fabregas for example. Young and very very talented. And Wenger didn't even have to spend a lot on him. He is a very good manager really and doesn't always get the recognitoon he deserves for his player hunting abilities.

Theres no denying that he is a good manager but i just dont like him to be honest!
RowlattsFox Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 Theres no denying that he is a good manager but i just dont like him to be honest! i dont like him either. its hard for the top teams to buy the best english players unles they are young up and coming players from lower premeirship or even championship sides.
Manwell Pablo Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 Theres no denying that he is a good manager but i just dont like him to be honest! He can be a whinging French toss pot thats for certain.
Joe. Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 He can be a whinging French toss pot thats for certain. And "never sees" anything for his team..
Wilkesy Posted 2 January 2007 Author Posted 2 January 2007 so this has turned into ' have a go at wenger ' - sounds good to me!

lookwhaticando Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 Oh come elvis is english really Born in Ghana, really, though. Pssst - Gareth McAuley, he ain't Irish.
lcfc_jme Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 Oh come elvis is english really Aye, he has to be English surely?! "Elvis is a cockney" and all that? He's the most English bloke we have in our entire team
Bert Posted 2 January 2007 Posted 2 January 2007 People only make a fuss because Arsenal do reasonably well. How come no-one has a dig at Bolton who only have 3 English players? Blackburn only have 1 or 2 english players, but because they don't do as well, no one cares.

A truly successful club has more money and a better pedigree. Where would you hope players are brought up? At some little provincial conference side with no money? Or one of the top ten clubs in the country, with a long history of success? If the idea is to improve the prospects of the national team, surely it'd be best if the players were brought up into a team of winners, with proven success and bags of experience. That's where the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United ought to come into it. Successful clubs with money to invest properly in talent. Investment the likes of Bolton and Blackburn could only dream of spending on 'kids'.

Again, you miss understand Arsenal, in two respects, as I've already stated they've bought through for or five top half English Premier league players through they're youth ranks, not many teams, certainly not Chelsea can say that. Second of all, Arsenal aren't a Man U, a Liverpool, or a Chelsea, they're a Spurs or a Villa that have done extremly well under a very good manager.
lildave3 Posted 3 January 2007 Posted 3 January 2007 We should definately have more englishman in the english game. You have to be special to break through the youth team and play in the premiership nowadays.
