holly Posted 9 January 2007 Posted 9 January 2007 our lanlord completely screwed us over, we told him from day one we wanted the house for 2 yrs. but no he decided to tell us we cant keep it anymore, so now we are having to spend time looking for another house, so annoying as none of us can keep an open mind as nothing is going to compare to the house we have now, soooooo annoying.

holly Posted 10 January 2007 Author Posted 10 January 2007 weird... doesn't he want the money? yes thats why he has given it to someone else. and he has put the rent up thats another reason he probs changed us as we prob would of complained about rent rising
Manwell Pablo Posted 10 January 2007 Posted 10 January 2007 If you have it in writing, you can have him for breach of contract. Thats one thing you wont get a Huddersfield landlord for! It'll be a 12 month contract.
IDEA OR IKEA Posted 10 January 2007 Posted 10 January 2007 If you have it in writing, you can have him for breach of contract. The landlord still has the right to kick anyone out with a months/two months notice even if they had a contract for 20 years, all they have to do is produce a valid excuse (need the house back to live in etc.) Ownership always takes precident - Landlord and Tennant Act I had the problem a few year back - signed 6 month contract then two weeks later landlord wanted flat back. Went to solicitor with aim to force the landlord to let me stay/get compensation and they basically told me that i had no case. If i went to court he would get a solicitor and they would tell him to claim he needed the house for 'personal reasons'. Its a s**t and i left one in the corner of the flat as a protest!
Daggers Posted 10 January 2007 Posted 10 January 2007 All Landlords are bastards. Fact. Not one of them ever returned a deposit to me and Bird. Ever. ...and then when we rented out our place in Northampton we decided to be nice Landlords ~ and the damn students trashed the house. Holes in doors and the walls, sick everywhere, broken banisters, broken windows and God knows what in the kitchen. After that, I decided Landlords have every right to be bastards.
Alexikokopops Posted 10 January 2007 Posted 10 January 2007 Very sensible I wish I had done that and then gone on and done a Ph. D. I'm just avoiding the world of work!!

Agreed, my parents used to rent there property to students and it was a nightmare, not just the trashing of the property but collecting rent, not paying, having more people in the house then agreed. It just gets so messy, god knows how many times i've had had to get the baseball bat out of the closet to collect arrears!! Now my parents rent to assylum seekers, the council\government pays the rent on time, anything that breaks etc the council repleces, wonderful!!!

It's better then doing a Phd, I did a Phd for one year (equates to a masters) and it was no student holiday, my mentor wanted us in by 9.00 am and leave at 6.00 pm and worked us like dogs. The wrost thing was, that after 5 years of graft your not guaranteed a job and starting salary was poo!!

The People's Hero Posted 10 January 2007 Posted 10 January 2007 Now my parents rent to assylum seekers, the council\government pays the rent on time, anything that breaks etc the council repleces, wonderful!!! Don't you also get half the value of the contract up front, the rental is a good rate and they promise you get the property back in equal or better state then original? I insure quite a lot of this kind of stuff.

I'm not too sure, I personally don't deal with the properties my mum does, but from what I know, is that the socail services deal with everything and she gets the money by direct debit, but I will ask her???
