Guest Posted 12 January 2005 Posted 12 January 2005 According to RL this morning, there are "strong reports" linking Walker with a return to Spurs, following the departure of Kasey Keller. I wonder if this means CL will negotiate a longer loan of Taylor, or perhaps try to sign him permanently? I heard an interview where CL stated that until he knew how fit Walker was, he wasn't considering any options regarding Taylor. By the way, Walker apparently played 70 mnutes last night in the reserves 0-0 draw with the Sky Blue Scum.
Fox in a Box Posted 12 January 2005 Posted 12 January 2005 I heard it too.... If we could get at least £250,000 plus a higher earner of the wage bill im for it. the pluses... Stuart Taylor may want to join as he will command the first team place. We save e.g £15,000 a week wages about 300,000 Thats half a million. CL could buy 2/3 players with that. HE lives in london so it would save him commuting every day.... I know what id do
Ricey Posted 12 January 2005 Posted 12 January 2005 I would let Walker go for a fee but I can't see why he would want to go back to Spurs to sit on the bench again.
Wellman Posted 12 January 2005 Posted 12 January 2005 It was on sky sports news this morning as well, hope he DOES go

Samu Posted 12 January 2005 Posted 12 January 2005 I want Walker to stay with us. He's had some difficult moments but at the end of the day he's stayed with us through it all. And let's not forget that playing for Leicester City took him into the England squad. I really had my doubts when we bought him but I think he's done a terrific job.

As for sitting on the bench I suspect he doesn't really care that much now, his international career is well and truely over. If he really wants to stay and is prepared to accept a realistic wage that's fine otherwise bye, bye, let's build for the future.
Chandler Posted 12 January 2005 Posted 12 January 2005 Walker's best days as a keeper are definitely behind him. Haven't you ever noticed how slow he can be in getting down to shots? How crap his kicking can be? And how he is prone to flap when the heat is on? I suspect that he's still carrying that shoulder injury which caused Spurs to release him. I can't understand why they want him back. And why he would want to play second fiddle to Robinson for the rest of his career. Somebody trying to create a false market in (slightly) dodgy keepers?

Louise Posted 12 January 2005 Posted 12 January 2005 On a personal level I'd like Walker to stay as he's one of my favourite players and I'm tired of watching a whole squad of players turn out that I don't care about at all and who could drop off the earth without me batting an eyelid. If he leaves I guess Jordan Stewart will become my favourite player On a playing level I think he's the best 'keeper we have and would prefer him playing to Taylor. And finally on a financial level I understand we might need to unload him. However if he really is coming back to fitness there are about 20 players I'd rather get rid of instead of him as I think he could be an asset to our second half of the season when others wouldn't. If he's injured still and someone wants to buy him then fine...but no Prem club is going to pay much for an injured 'keeper who isn't rated by most clubs for whatever reason and will only be a 2nd goalie for a Prem club anyway... I'd hate to think we sold Walker just because no-one wanted Scowy... If Walker wants to go then obviously there is no point in keeping him here however I can't imagine any other club will play him more than we are now.
Anish Posted 12 January 2005 Posted 12 January 2005 I have to admit that he is our best goalie and that he has been a great servant for us over the years (albeit on exortionate wages) - but I would gladly see him go for the money quoted and his wages could be used for further transfers. However, I would like to see him being replaced by another good keeper (Taylor would be a fine replacement), not a has-been like Pressman and the like.
>>>Bevan<<< Posted 13 January 2005 Posted 13 January 2005 we might aswell get what we can for him now, its better then him leaving on a free
Leicester_Mad Posted 13 January 2005 Posted 13 January 2005 I personally dont think Taylor is that great a keeper. Id much rather have Walker in the sticks and i think that Levein would too, judging by his comments in the paper about him the last few games. Certainly think we should offer him a 1year extension, albeit on lower terms and just hopes he accepts
Louise Posted 13 January 2005 Posted 13 January 2005 Goalkeeper Ian Walker, meanwhile, appears to be winning his race for fitness in time for Tuesday's trip to Blackpool.Walker played 70 minutes in the reserves on Tuesday in his first game since the end of August after knee trouble. "His knee was bit sore in the morning due to all the kicking, but he did some work in the gym yesterday and he is fine and we're hoping to have him ready for the Cup game," confirmed Levein. Walker was yesterday linked with a move back to Tottenham, while James Scowcroft is repeatedly linked with Ipswich, Norwich and Crystal Palace, but Levein said he had heard nothing from any of those clubs. http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/details.asp?b...6269754|p|536|0

And you've got to say he's one of the few who's earnt his money (albeit borderline high wages). I can actually only think of his blip last season where he's been less than acceptable... and he's hardly been injured either the last 3 seasons, which solved our Flowers syndrome In hindsight, maybe we shouldve kept Danny Coyne

Louise Posted 13 January 2005 Posted 13 January 2005 From the OS: Walker Could Make Cup Return Craig Levein is lining up Ian Walker for his first start in over four months when the Foxes take on Blackpool in the FA Cup third round replay next Tuesday. The England goalkeeper has been out of action since the Brighton & Hove Albion clash last August with a troublesome knee injury, but was out on the training field again last week and made an appearance for the reserves against Coventry City. And now Levein says he is considering playing Walker in the cup clash at Bloomfield Road. He said: "Ian could be an option for us when we play Blackpool in the FA Cup as Arsenal don't want Stuart Taylor cup-tied. So we will try and get him fit enough to be involved in the replay. "I spoke to Ian after the reserve game and he said that he was glad to be back, although his knee was a little bit sore as you can imagine. But I am confident at this moment that he will be available for the Blackpool game." Levein also added that he was not aware of the speculation that had linked Walker with a move back to his former club Spurs. He added: "I don't know anything about the link between Ian Walker and Tottenham. He has just played 70 minutes in a reserve match and at the moment he is just concentrating on getting back for Leicester and not anything else." http://www.lcfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsD...~612789,00.html

I couldn't care less if Coyne wanted to go, we should've kept him as he had age on his side and was deffo one for the future.. ah well.. things that might have been
