More than a million consoles were shipped across Europe on launch day last week with 600,000 sold. Sony is hoping to retake its title as the console market leader, as Microsoft and Nintendo head the next-gen race. Meanwhile, games firm Namco Bandai has said it is to use the PS3's Cell chip in arcade machines. Microsoft sold 71,000 Xbox 360 consoles during its UK launch weekend, while Nintendo sold 105,000 Wii machines. But both companies offered limited stock to retailers, which led to shortages. Ray Maguire, managing director of Sony Computer Entertainment UK said the figures were a vote of confidence in the machine. "Having broken the record for launch sales, we are now replenishing retail stock across the country," he said, The first arcade title to use the PS3 microprocessor will be fighting game Tekken 6, Namco said. While PlayStation technology has been used in arcade machines in the past it is believed to be the first time that the Cell will be used for games not running on Sony's console. Geo V Posted 28 March 2007 Share Posted 28 March 2007 Our initial sales on the PS3 are good but thats because we are offering the Jap one and a game thrown in for the same price everyone else is advertising it for. One thing is there is no shortage of the PS3 in London as everyone has them but the problems continue in getting hold of Wii`s. As someone said, they are still trading at over £50 more than the normal price on ebay. A final plug, if anyone has any old retro games and consoles or wants to buy stuff, go to http://www.in2-games.com/ and email us to let us know what you have or alternatively drop me a mesage. We`ll practically take everything from Commodore 64s to Amiga`s. Going through the stock is hilarious as it brings back the memories of taking about 30 mins for some games to load up. Thats only because they did not restrict the initial amount of consoles on sale as they did for the PS2, XBOX360 and Wii. There are ies, damn lies and statistics. Two facts/rumours: 1) They are releasing 1 Million units a month (to the world) but demand is far greater than the supply. Some shops get about 20-40 a month but they go in an hour!! 2) Nintendo have deliberately held supplies back until April, to make next years figures look good!!???
