davieG Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 Everyone one knows the atmosphere at Filbert way is, with one or two exceptions morgue like and depressing. If you were given the chance to improve it what would you suggest? In some ways this is all hypothetical, I’m just interested in whether there is a common consensus as to what the problem is. For example, we all know the stadium is designed to throw the sound onto the pitch but I don’t think that is the reason for the library like atmosphere as I still remember the first game against Watford and that will live with me forever and I’ve had some massive experiences over the years at Filbert St. So what is wrong? What can be done to change it? What can we do? What could the club do? Sensible posts ony please
Guest Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 So what is wrong? The fact that people who want to sing are split between L1 and the Kop, and we can't hear each other well. This suggests to me that the people in between don't hear, and therefore don't join in, as I can't believe that all of the people in the East Stand in between the two are happy to sit there mute. I also think the people going to games is changing. Clubs are encouraging more families to attend, and now we have more people in the WS than we did at Filbo. It is quite feasible some of these have never experienced the kind of atmospheres I remember. They may not know the words to the songs, or they just might not the same type of supporter as those who go to games and want to sing their hearts out. I also think the poor performance of the team doesn't help either. What can be done to change it? What can we do? What could the club do? I don't think a "singing corner" (just L1, for example) would work, this just moves everyone and the noise to one part of the ground, and will kill what little atmosphere there is elsewhere. However, I do think now that perhaps the Kop should be moved to the North Stand. It might make the Kop a bit louder. I also don't think playing music when we score helps either. To be honest, I'm too busy making enough noise of my own when we score to clap along to a piece of recorded music. As fans, all we can do is carry on singing and hope others eventually join in. Unfortunately, you can't make them!

The other areas of the ground picked up on this when we needed support.. If you were in the KOP at FILBERT ST you knew you were in for singing.. The noisey crowds have been fragmented......into all sections of the ground Here is where the problem lies.... The CLUB should state Via the media (internet/Mercury/Radio) what is need for us to follow....... If you hear what Sir Alex Ferguson says when he needs support he usually gets it...we need a rallying cry..... Birch before the game usually works..... but he needs to say it with more heart.. The 3-1 to 3-3 Arsenal proves crowd interaction works. We also gave a very hostile reception for DENNIS 'my career has ended' WISE... that was the best atmosphere ive heard at the Crisp Packet.
Who ate all the pies? Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 We need inspiration to be honest. I was sitting in the Kop (as usual) for the FA cup game against Blackpool and the kop were singing despite the fact that we were crap. It seemed the more the city tried the more kop got behind them. Chuffing deathly silent almost everywhere else though!
Jonesy_rules Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 I agree with the reason, i think the simple solution would be, as suggessted many a time, to move everyone in the KOP to the FAMILY STAND and VICE-VERSA! tis way the kop are near the away fans n L1, the family area is safe!
Collymore Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 I don't think that our poor excuse of an announcer helps much either. If you go to other stadiums the PA man really gets the crowd going. Ours seems too politically correct and monotone.. I'm fed up of hearing him sucking up to the opposition and not understanding he needs to change mood when we are playing good or bad. There's nothing worse when youv'e lost and he say's " Thank you for your support 2day, the tickets for the bla bla game our now available from the ticket office.........)"
MADLEVEIN Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 agree that the north stand should be the kop end but i cant see that happening...safety fears, etc... but it would create a better atmosphere without a doubt and if it was made a non designated seat area that would also improve things i shall create a poll immediatley, get some sort of backing for the idea, could even be used as a bargaining tool when the groundshare issue raises its head.
BartonFox Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 They will never move "The Kop" to the North Stand as the Police won't allow it... too much of a flashpoint risk with visiting fans. Which is a shame.

Think of the kop at anfield. that is the other end of the ground to the away fans but the atmosphere is really good.
Ricey Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 I think the seating is too far away from the pitch, at Filbert Street you were right up close to the action but at the Walkers you feel so far away from it. People would just sooner sit there and observe currently whereas at Filbo more fans got involved. I think Birchy should come out before every game to get the crowd going just before the players come out.

Agreed they can be a pain in the arse but make it occasional and see if it inspires. it works for England and the annoying drum at Blackpool got people going.
Guest Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 Think of the kop at anfield. that is the other end of the ground to the away fans but the atmosphere is really good. 57101[/snapback] Not when I sat there, but then again, there were no away fans!

He's the reason I sod off on to the concourse at half time, I can't be doing with that court jester. He should have been kicked out during Administration. BIRCH OUT, MACE OUT
Mark Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 1. Swap the kop and family enclosure around. That way we have both the Kop and L1 nearer to each other, as well as near the away fans, 3 of the most active sound generating parts of the ground. The rest of the crowd will end up joining in, like at Filbert Street. THIS IS A MUST PRE MATCH 2. STOP playing the horn 15 minutes before kickoff. It is an embarrassment, it creates no excitement before games, and some people (like me ) are trying to avoid this old man by getting to the games later than they'd like to. Also forget playing it at kickoff, the recorded version is a whole lot better than that man ruining the build up to every home game. 3. PA Announcer. Employ someone who actually has a voice that sounds interesting, a passionate fan would be nice. Instead of the current one who goes so over the top reading the teams out. It would help building the game up, it's plain boring at the moment. HALF TIME 4. Get older supporters from just leicester or both teams to play kicking the ball in the net or whatever, as well as the kids, just not every week.
dan_84 Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 the kop needs to be swapped with the family enclosure. I will garruntee that improves the atmosphere 100%
Jonbluefox9 Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 Everyone says swap the KOP with the family stand but not all of us in the family stand will want to move to the other end because we've sat next to the away fans since the Walkers Stadium opened. So when it comes to renewing season tickets, not all of the KOP will be able to move as many people will just renew their seat where they've been for the last few seasons which will then be the KOP. As far as I know N block doesn't stick to the same rules as the whole of the family stand anyway so you could have another small block of noisy fans there like L1.

filbertway Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 We know the kop wont get moved with the family stand but hows this for an idea. All the people in the kop move to the family stand and vica versa. You can all call it the kop even if the club dont and you get a better atmosphere.
step Posted 21 January 2005 Posted 21 January 2005 I have sat in the cop when they are in good voice. then on the message boards someone complains that the Kop was quiet. I have sat all over the stadium and I dont think the sound travels very well. The one thing about English football is that the fans partisipate in the match, with the distance between the pitch and the stands being so big the fans become spectators and not participators. This does effect the atmosphere. But the thing that has the biggest effect on the attmosphere is a team that has no passion. Win or loss the fans will always get behind a team that works hard Summary Poor acustics Pitch to far from stand lazy players.
