Thracian Posted 14 March 2007 Share Posted 14 March 2007 For a bloke who doesn't beat his man I thought it was brilliant of Porter to get the Leeds defender to move so far to one side for the cross!

Trumpet Posted 14 March 2007 Share Posted 14 March 2007 And then read this ball-locks... After beating Luton Town on Saturday, United went into the game knowing that the Leicester game presented an opportunity to climb out of the bottom three for the first time since the 2-1 win at Plymouth Argyle on November 25.Eddie Lewis was missing from the starting line-up after picking up an injury - Armando Sa came in at left-back - but Dennis Wise was given a major boost with the welcome return of both Alan Thompson and Robbie Elliott, who were named among the substitutes. For Leicester, former United loan man Geoff Horsfield was named in their starting line-up. And Horsfield was denied inside the first five minutes by the quick-thinking Casper Ankergren, who had to react well to clear a back-pass from the recalled Sa. United's first opportunity came when Jonathan Douglas headed an early corner over the bar. Radostin Kishishev was involved at both ends during the opening exchanges, first making a good block from Jason Jarrett and then at the other end he lofted a speculative shot wide of the mark after a quick United break. Paul Henderson was the first goalkeeper to be called into action, though, on 17 minutes when he collected a Robbie Blake effort after good work by Seb Carole. There was little else in the way of goal-mouth action during the opening half-hour, Leicester's Stephen Hughes firing one wayward effort well wide of the mark. A Blake corner was hacked clear as United responded to the vocal backing of the magnificent travelling support by pressing forward and Henderson was called upon to catch a hopeful effort from Sa on 33 minutes. At the opposite end, Ankergren pushed a Jarrett shot over the top and from the resultant corner Hughes again miscued when presented with a decent opportunity. United's response was again to break quickly, and a free-kick 20 yards out gave Blake a chance, but his shot was straight at Henderson. And the Leicester goalkeeper was in the thick of the action moments later when he was handed a yellow card after apparently flattening Jemal Johnson on the edge of the box. Johnson required on-field attention from both United physio Harvey Sharman and club doctor Terry Crystal and, after being stretchered from the field, the on-loan striker was replaced by David Healy. This gave Blake another chance to try his luck with a free-kick and this time he made no mistake. His first shot cannoned back off the Leicester wall, but his second attempt was drilled into the bottom corner, leaving Henderson with no chance. The United players raced the length of the field to the travelling supporters - but that joy was tempered within a matter of seconds. Straight from the re-start, Leicester came storming forward and when Iain Hume met a Jarrett cross, Ankergren appeared to slip on the turf and the Dane could only watch as the ball came down off the crossbar and over the line. Shortly before the hour-mark, Wise made his second substitution, introducing the returning Thompson in place of Carole. And when Jarrett bundled over Cresswell near the touchline on the left Thompson took the free kick but Henderson collected easily. Leicester introduced Elvis Hammond in place of Horsfield midway through the half and they crafted a good opening on 67 minutes when Frazer Richardson did well to deny Porter. The hosts carved out another decent opening for Jarrett, but his shot from just outside of the box sailed over the bar. Worryingly for United, Thompson's return lasted barely 13 minutes before he was replaced by Ian Moore. Kishishev went close for United moments later, but Ankergren came to the rescue at the other after Hughes got the better of Matt Heath. With time running out and United fans chanting 'attack, attack, attack' Douglas fired over from 22 yards and during the four minutes that were added on, both Hammond and Douglas were lectured by the referee after a clash following a foul on Ankergren. lcfc_jme Posted 14 March 2007 Share Posted 14 March 2007 I thought levi supplied the cross not jarrett? He did. And it says so on the highlights as well. We're lucky their keeper slipped over otherwise that would have been one of the most comfortable saves he'll ever have to make.
