Manwell Pablo Posted 26 March 2007 Posted 26 March 2007 I was surprised at him not mentioning any redoubling of efforts on the training pitch McClaren is a useless cnut. Fact. I herd him being interviewed on five live today, when asked if he had considered quitting he pissed himself laughing. I'm glad someones finding this joke of a England team funny.
lcfc_jme Posted 26 March 2007 Posted 26 March 2007 I've voted yes, simply because I can't imagine England not qualifying for a major tournament (they've qualified for all but one since I've been alive I think). However unless things drastically improve, I can't imagine us finishing higher than 3rd place. The games against Russia and the remaining one against Croatia will be even more crucial now.
Joe. Posted 26 March 2007 Posted 26 March 2007 Yes we'll qulaify fine I think. You can turn having to play Israel, Russia twice and Crotia again into positives because it means that if we beat them we should go above them. I think we'll be alright. We still have to play Andorra and Estonia twice. There's 9 points easy already. I'm going for at least 5-0 on Wednesday.

Joe. Posted 26 March 2007 Posted 26 March 2007 I got laughed at when i said 3 or 4 Andorra are so poor it's untrue. I don't think people realise how bad they actually are. We're not that bad that we wo't be able to comfortably stick at least 5 past them.
potter3 Posted 26 March 2007 Posted 26 March 2007 Most, if not all of Andorra's players are part-time
Manwell Pablo Posted 26 March 2007 Posted 26 March 2007 Andorra are so poor it's untrue. I don't think people realise how bad they actually are. We're not that bad that we wo't be able to comfortably stick at least 5 past them. We'll win on Wednesday, but I don't think we'll stick 5 past them, we only just managed that on home turf. They're no worse than Lichenstien and we only managed 2 past them. Even if we manage to put 14 past them I wont be happy, it's a nothing game they're by far the worst team in our group and the real tests lie ahead. Worrying stat, excluding Andorra, from four games we've scored one goal so far in our qualfying campaign.
Finnegan Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 I was massively disappointed with Russia in Euro 04 and we came very close to beating them ourselves before hand. But that was three years ago and if I'm right, haven't they got Hiddink out their know? Both Croatia and Russia are difficult sides but you'd have to fancy England to beat everyone in that group at home. That really only leaves a trip to Russia as a fixture you cannot win? I don't really know whether I want you to qualify or not*, but I have to say I think you will. Just. If you don't get a decent draw, mind, and things don't drastically change - I can't see you getting out of the group stages of the tournament. * there's the typical chip-on-the-shoulder side of me that would LOVE to see England fail to qualify. I'd patrol the streets with a smug, silly grin going, mocking dejected England fan friends of mine who've had so much fun belittling our own ability to qualify for anything. Ever. HOWEVER, I love the Euros and the World Cup. I love them fevorously, and I'm hugely phobic that if England don't qualify - the nation just won't give a toss it's on. And I think if I'm the only one that cares, the whole glitz and glamour of the occasion may be ruined. Difficult one.

AyewJoking Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 It looks bleak right now but all we have to do is beat Russia home and away and beat Israel at home. Barring any disasters that should be good enough for second place.
Manwell Pablo Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 It looks bleak right now but all we have to do is beat Russia home and away and beat Israel at home. Barring any disasters that should be good enough for second place. Ah, thats alright then, panic over
Manwell Pablo Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 Football. Its easy! I do love the fact that most people still think we'll qualify despite us being in a very visable hole. Gool old fashioned English arrogance.
Guest Gist Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 Really with the players we have we should be disscusing the chances of us winning the competition not only qualifying. Unfortunately that isn't the case and we look like we will continue to underacheive with the players who should be doing a lot better than what they are.
Finnegan Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 Really with the players we have we should be disscusing the chances of us winning the competition not only qualifying. You see, to us in the West and to the Tartan clad boys in the North, that argument / excuse is getting all too irritating now. Now I agree you have the pedigree to qualify, and I think you will, but there has to come a time when you admit that England just aren't the best team out there. You've got Gerrard, Rooney and maybe Joe and Ashley Cole who are truly, truly world class players. Who else? Let's get on thing straight, Lamps isn't. Spain, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Portugal, Holland France, they can all field sides as good if not better ON PAPER than you - and that's before you take away the aspect of a toss manager. I appreciate the "we've got good players but we're still shit" argument to some extent (I make it in the rugby all the time), but to such a vast extent as to pretend you should be winning everything all the time? Shaddap! Russia and Israel at home, yeah. I'd EXPECT you to win it. Euro 08? Not even with Hiddink in charge!
00rawat Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 I was surprised at him not mentioning any redoubling of efforts on the training pitch McClaren is a useless cnut. Fact. So what we are saying here is McClaren is the same type of maneger as Rob Kelly and they say the same things.
Thracian Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 I voted no because I can't see any reasons why I would vote yes. We're off the pace, have a manager who seems totally out of his depth - an international version of Kelly really - prima donna players who get far too much consideration, lousy team spirit and there's no way those things seem likely to change I never wanted the guy as England manager and said so. I no longer watch them nor even have any interest in watching them because seeing one team like Leicester is bad enough, never mind two. But the situation with England does reflect my concern about the number of foreign players in our game - particularly the indifferent ones - and emphasises how important it is that we focus on finding and developing our own players and then finding opportunities for them to come through. Alas, that might require far more top quality coaches than the FA seem capable of producing.

Shaddap! Russia and Israel at home, yeah. I'd EXPECT you to win it. Euro 08? Not even with Hiddink in charge! Not for one second do I think England should be winning everything I'd just like to see every England player play their best and if that isn't enough for us to win a competition or to even qualify then fair enough, I'll accept we are not good enough. And the funny thing is, you mention Gerrard and Rooney as truly world class players yet they are argueably the two most underperforming players in the squad..... Lampard is underacheiving, it doesn't mean he can't be and isn't world class. We have all seen what he can do and just like the rest of the players, they aren't performing to the standards needed to qualify.
Finnegan Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 Lampard isn't world class. Fact. Not on his day, not ever. 'World class' to me doesn't just mean "good enough to play for a national side." Joey Gudjonsson is good enough to play for his national side. 'World class' to me, means a match winner of the highest level, a player who can win a world cup final, someone who dazzles surrounded even by other world class talent. Kaka is a world class midfielder, Ronaldinho is a world class midfielder, Jason Koumas Pavel Nedved was a world class midfielder, Zidane was a world class midfielder and I'd argue Stevie Gerrard is too. But Lamps? Nope, not now, not ever. Premiership quality, undeniably, and good premiership quality at that. Truly world class? You're havin' a laugh. Is 'e havin' a laugh?

Simi Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 We will probably just scrape it. The games against Croatia and Russia will be crucial obviously.
Finnegan Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 True. He's no Jason Koumas, er, Kaka that's for sure. I just don't see what he offers that's match winning at international level. Besides the fact he scores goals from the midfield (which he doesn't do for England, he just wastes chances - but we can put that down to your "underachieving" claim), he's just a fairly decent passer with fairly decent vision.

Yes I think I would have to agree with that. Lampard isn't world class. Steven Gerrard is definitely a world class player in my book. Perhaps not on the international stage for England but for Liverpool most definitely. Gerrard for me is the best player in the Premiership. Some would agree, other's not, it's just my opinion. He has the ability to change a game, to lead by example and drive others on when they are down. Take Liverpool's Champions league Victory for example. Every game Gerrard was there, outstanding every time and was key to their success. Without him they wouldn't have made it anywhere near the final let alone win it. That for me is world class.

Mikey Posted 27 March 2007 Posted 27 March 2007 And I have full confidence in our ability to qualify. Although we have a shite manager adn the team spirit is low we should be able to sort that out against Andorra. A few goals for Rooney and his confidence should be back and he will be able to score as he does for United. I think we will come first or second because surely Croatia must slip us somewhere. Bring back Beckham and bring back his GOOD balls into the box. Last minute against Croatia last game. England don't score this they don't qualify. Last minute. 30 yards out. Beckham steps up...... GOAAAALLLLLL !!!!! That's whats gnna happen. Just like Greece
