Tommeh Posted 13 April 2007 Posted 13 April 2007 tenner on clan Royal me thinks, just as I did last year...when he would have won but for that stray horse taking him out
Fez of Mahrez Posted 13 April 2007 Posted 13 April 2007 I got Simon in the sweepstake at work. Thought for a second I'd entered the Redundancy Sweepstake by mistake and got Simon from Accounts.
Joe. Posted 13 April 2007 Posted 13 April 2007 Right I've decided on McKelvey and Bothar Na both each way.
Thracian Posted 13 April 2007 Posted 13 April 2007 I'll be betting it's a pony that does it. It will beat some other ponies and a lot of Scousers and Irish people will get drunk. At about a half-past the Grand National some Aintree tart will be the cause of a fight between a group of drunk men that've been drinking over-priced watered down lager since 11am that morning. *shivers*Last year was a horrible experience. Never again. It's a thing with the Irish. I used to stand at the Newark Antiques Fair where they had an all night bar. Every year the Irish lads - who were in a line behind my rig - would wander down top their ale tents in their suits and jackets, drink themselves paralytic and knock seven bells out of each other cos there was no-one else to whack. I had an alsation at the time and had marked my pitch with a set of bentwood chairs. At 4-00am I was awoken by a huge commotion and dashed bollock naked out of my caravan to find a 6 ft 3inch Irishman on my tarpaulin with my dog at his throat. He'd tried to walk home with four of the Bentwoods but forgot my dog was on the tailift of my truck. Seriously slurring his Irish brogue he begged me to call the dog off and said he'd only grabbed the Bentwoods cos he was pissed. "If you'd seen the worm in them and the fact that all their legs are broken, you'd know how pissed you were," I replied and told him he'd be doing me a favour it he kept the chairs, which, ironically, he declined to do. But from that day forth - for nearly a decade, the Irish lads never once walked through my stand but always walked around on the road - even years after the dog had died!. And though we always got on famously after that, and did loads of business, every one of them asked where the dog was before they'd talk over the price of anything. They were never convinced she'd moved on or that I hadn't got another.
marko Posted 13 April 2007 Posted 13 April 2007 Right I've decided on McKelvey and Bothar Na both each way. Should run well and has improved a lot since year. Bewleys Berry is another fairly long shot with a good chance. I think i'm going to have £1 ew on Naunton Brook, is a front runner so hopefully will steer clear of trouble and stays the distance.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 13 April 2007 Posted 13 April 2007 Done some research and I have to say I'm not impressed with my pick in the sweepstake at work...
Leicfox Posted 13 April 2007 Posted 13 April 2007 Horses you dont want.... Carrying 11st 6lbs or more Aged under eight or over 12 Not won over at least three miles French-breds Wearing headgear of any description Won at this season's Cheltenham Festival
Joe. Posted 13 April 2007 Posted 13 April 2007 I've changed my mind. It's now McKelvey and Joe's Edge. It just seems too good not to bet on.
Bert Posted 13 April 2007 Posted 13 April 2007 I've changed my mind. It's now McKelvey and Joe's Edge. It just seems too good not to bet on. ALWAYS bet horses/dogs that have your name or someone significantly close to you.
Joe. Posted 13 April 2007 Posted 13 April 2007 ALWAYS bet horses/dogs that have your name or someone significantly close to you. Well I knew I should really pick it for the obvious reason but I don't like picking the favourite because they very rarely win.... Oh well I'm confident in it this year.
Tommeh Posted 13 April 2007 Posted 13 April 2007 It now seems Joe's Edge is going in as favourite at 8/1 according to bbc. I also Fancy a cheeky fiver on Jack High
marko Posted 14 April 2007 Posted 14 April 2007 I'm throwing my money away on; £1 Eurotrek £1 Hedgehnter £1 EW Bewleys Berry £1 EW Naunton Brook £1 EW Clan Royal £1 EW Royal Auclair
stez Posted 14 April 2007 Posted 14 April 2007 who had silverbirch then? i'd not looked further than hedge hunter
James. Posted 14 April 2007 Posted 14 April 2007 I went £10 to win on Point Barrow (9-1), £5 to win on Thisthatandtother (66-1), £5 each way on Slim Pickings (33-1) and £5 each way on Idle Talk (20-1). Slim pickings came in 3rd at 33-1 so after putting down £35 I came out with £46. Not bad for a 5 minute study of the form in The Times!
Brainy Posted 14 April 2007 Posted 14 April 2007 Credit to my horse who actually finished the race. He finished 7th
AoWW Posted 14 April 2007 Posted 14 April 2007 who had silverbirch then? i'd not looked further than hedge hunter Woo hoo, I had £5 on Silver Birch to win at 33/1. Now feeling rather smug and a fair bit richer. Wishing I'd not been such a cheapskate though and had put a tenner on, but best not complain. Based on the Foxes dismal performance today (and my good fortune) I'm now thinking I better bet on them being relegated - somthing tells me I may have missed the best odds though!
Brainy Posted 14 April 2007 Posted 14 April 2007 I watched it for the very first time and at the first fence I heard Point Barrow had dropped out. I tried to remember who had him on here. Luck >> Batracer >> Bets >>
Joe. Posted 14 April 2007 Posted 14 April 2007 I had McKelvey £1 each way. Finished 2nd which was nice. Not going to win me a fortune but at least it's something I suppose....
AoWW Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 Te he, just checked my account and my winnings are there. Feeling very pleased with myself.
Maybes Posted 15 April 2007 Posted 15 April 2007 Te he, just checked my account and my winnings are there. Feeling very pleased with myself. You just put a 5er on the win and not e/w?
