England v Australia

How the hell does Mahmood make it into the side?!

His bowling is so shit its unbelievable.

I slagged him off last game, he takes wickets. I forget to this time and he's dire again. He's crap. Batsmen have more trouble picking their noses than his slower ball.

Our batting in the last 10 overs cost us the game, really. We didn't accelerate. It was mostly super Aussie bowling, though.

I'd rather see Flintoff lower down the order. He can be more effecitve when lower down as he has the licence to hit more.

No, he's less effective because he ends up coming in against medium-pace and spin, which he hates, and getting out. Flintoff batting in the powerplay overs against pace is a good idea, and if he ends up getting out quickly - no worse than what's already there.

Exactly why he should be opening. However some coaches clearly cannot see this.

it's utterly pitiful that we can't muster 2 openers capable of getting us to 50 without one or both getting out, joyce is never going to make it against proper bowling whilst strauss seems to have lost all form and confidence. Vaughan has the potential to make decent scores and will probably start smashing it to all parts in the dead rubbers once we get knocked over by Bangladesh. Loye is out of favour although could not possibly be worse than the others. The tragedy is in trescothick we have a player to match the aussies in aggressive and destructive batting and his absence will be one of the factors that this world cup is a real lost opportunity- only the kiwis - in world cricket terms a bunch of nobodies - have looked like getting on terms with the australians both of whom were seen off by england a matter of a few weeks ago

We made a huge mistake by not backing Strauss. All the better players in the world hit a run of bad form but we just dumped him and got Joyce in. You wouldnt see the Aussies dropping Hayden when he went on a stinker. Also Tresco becoming a mentalist hasnt helped as he would have been sensational in the WC at these tiny grounds.

My opinion is the team needs to change its order around a little bit and get some luck. We have played well in 3/4s of the matches against Sri Lanka, NZ and the Aussies but won none of them. We dont seem to get the decisions either which is pi$$poor as LBW claims always go against us. Our luck was typied when Pietersen wacked the ball and it looked like it would be 4 but it hits the umpire, we only run one and Bell who looked sensational (better than KP in this game IMO) gets caught next ball! Bells dismissal via runout in the previous game when cruising was typical of our luck.

Anyway, I change my mind on the line-up all the time but the personnel is usually the same. I cant work out how Mahmood is in ahead of Plunkett who always seems to take wickets and can bat a bit.

FLINTOFF - Not in form, usless in the middle at the moment so try him as an opener as he likes facing pace and usually comes in against spin and gets out.

BELL - Looked superb against the Aussies. Plays well and gets scores but gets moaned at for not getting 100s. Steady player.

PIETERSEN - Needs to be in dictacting the pace. Dissapointed me a touch by playing for his 100 instead of having a lash for the side but is Worlds No1!

STRAUSS - Get him back in but down the order a touch.

COLLINGWOOD - Superb with bat, ball and in the field.

VAUGHAN - His strength is finding the gaps and plays spin well. Get him away from fresh pace bowlers where he has to score straight away!

BOPARA - Been a bit of a find with th ebat but why the hell didnt he bowl against the Aussies??!!

NIXON - Doing the perfect WK job. Chirpy behind the stumps, scores runs and brings energy.

ANDERSON - Been so unlucky. Great bowling spells but rewardless. He`ll no doubt come good.

PLUNKETT - He always takes wickets and should be in ahead of Mahmood

PANASAAR - Quality bowler and we need to utilise his strengths.

Trescothick makes dazzling return

Marcus Trescothick made an astonishing return to action with an innings of 256 off 117 balls for Somerset in a pre-season friendly against Devon.

The England opener hit 19 sixes and 25 fours at Taunton to help his side pile up 502-4 off 50 overs.

"It was phenomenal batting. We dropped him on 70 and then he went absolutely beserk," said Devon's Robert Dawson.

Trescothick pulled out of the winter Ashes tour to Australia because of a recurrence of a stress-related illness.

The 31-year-old underwent double hernia surgery following his return home but is now back to full fitness and keen to help Somerset make a good start to the county season.

His chances of an England recall may depend on him convincing the selectors he is in the right frame of mind for international cricket.

Dawson hopes, however, that it will happen sooner rather than later.

"Along with [Kevin] Pietersen, he's by far and away our best player. Ed Joyce wouldn't have got 250 against us today. You can't express how much England have missed him.

"We mixed the attack, I think we used seven or eight different bowlers, and everyone went miles," Dawson told BBC Sport.

"There were very short boundaries on three sides but it was an incredible effort. Quite a few of the sixes went 100 yards although a few were lobbed over the short side.

"It was an incredible display of hitting, it really was. It's just a shame he was playing against us and not against Australia."

To Devon's relief, Trescothick was eventually run out backing up at the non-striker's end

"That was the probably the only way we'd have got him out. There was a chance he might have got 400 - I think there were about 20 overs left in the innings," Dawson added.

James Hildreth also made a hundred for Somerset, who eventually won the game by over 216 runs.

"There was no Justin Langer or Cameron White or it could have been worse," Dawson added.

I watched the higlights of that innings. He was unstopable. I don't think he would of got out if it wasn't for the other batsman hitting his end of the wickets. :frusty::P
