Just watched the interview with Thomas in which he states  we have had a better season and taken more points this season then last season well yes we have  but let's just ignore the fact that points for drawing games increased from 5 to 8

Suggests to me that Kimber has talent, but insufficient application. Budinger arguably falls into the same category.

Agree with this.

No doubt the best we can do with our budget is find players with the raw materials and hope that our coaches can help them smooth off the rough edges or adapt their mentalities.

Hill and Patel are examples of where this mostly seems to have worked with the former previously evolving from an ok keeper into the fulcrum of our batting and the latter turning from Essex cast off into a very good all format opening bat.

That being said both finished the season absolutely awfully (Hill never really got started) and all can look to Handscomb for an example of where they need to aim.

Bowling was pretty atrocious all round and needs sorted. Need to make sure Hull and Green maximise their potential as can picture the calls for Hull to move on if he continues to shine for England but toil for us in red ball.

Feel for Evans. He's been poorly mismanaged this year and there were several junctures at which he could have been given a go. Just hope the club learn their lesson about handing down contracts based off sentiment if they've no intention of using that player.

Hope he finds a gig elsewhere. He'd walk into Derbyshire's side in all formats.

I guess there aren't many better options out there for us that we can afford or would come to us.

He looked like he might have worked on tempering his natural game earlier this season, but then seemed to revert to type as it went on.

Hope his couple of recent Championship scores turn out to be an indicator of his trajectory, rather than anomalies. Probably the most frustrating player to watch in our current squad.

Budinger and Evans are basically opposite ends of the scale.

One has the temperament but scores at snail pace and the other has all the aggression and scoring shots you could want but only plays one way which normally doesn't result in many runs.

Need to merge them into one player.

The cricket society begins another season  tomorrow  at 7.30 in the Charles Palmer suite with Mark Ramprakash the guest speaker. Admission just £5 should be a good night

Yet another sneaky move by the Club members forum called in December but only 2025 members allowed to attend. So current members who are not renewing  like myself who want serious answers about the way Jarvis is running the club are unable to attend it will just be the likes of Oliver Hawke who thinks  losing £800k this year is no big deal and good old Sean will sort it out

So we're in financial trouble, can't have any overseas players next season yet we can afford to give a bit part player like Roman Walker a new contract! 🤔 🤦‍♂️

Well Handscomb under contract so I guess he will be here next year

So I'm toying with the idea of biting the bullet and buying a white ball pass. However I'm fearful of a very non competitive campaign given the financial situation and the fact that Ahmed and Hull will be off with England. I know there's 1 or 2 ITKs out there so does anyone know if we plan on making any new signings or having any specialist overseas for t20? Not expecting any names, just seeing if anyone has any idea of the plans ahead.

Having looked to be on the cusp of finally cracking test cricket, cementing his place in their first choice XI etc., Wiaan Mulder fractured his right hand middle finger while batting today against Sri Lanka.

Trust it will be fully healed by the time the Foxes next play Sussex ;)

Has Mulder actually re-signed for us next season then?

As far as I’m aware, no.

However, Handscomb is coming back for sure.

I'm guessing county aren't signing anyone them? Normally there's things announced by now! I did bite the bullet and buy I white ball pass. Starting to wish I didn't bother. Squad looks so light on batting I can't see us being competitive.

Remember that Alfonso has made it clear that his philosophy is to use loan players to top up the contracted players. Currie has gone back to Hampshire but expect to see a replacement for him and Green and Goldsworthy too. They were all pretty useful.

Rehan Ahmed is playing in the UAE t20 league. Came in at 3 in his first game and hit 46 off of 27 balls. Perhaps he'll develop into the big hitting fulcrum the top order needs.
