Alternative to EBay

Recommended Posts

I'm getting thoroughly sick of EBay.

Does anyone use an alternative on-line auction website and what are their experiences.

I've just been looking through CQuot for example which seems to ave some potential despite being small.

Any thoughts?

It's getting too rich for me now, I'm guessing this could end up like the Word Association thread if everyone continues to outbid each other this way

Hammersnipe set for 57 pence

www.Ebid.net

This was dubbed the "fastest growing auction site"

Nothing on it though.

Ebay has 95% of the market

As I thought. Sounds like a wonderful opportunity for someone.

what problems are you having with them ? they're usually pretty good but i think the charges can be a bit steep if you are only selling small stuff; anyway have you tried these

I think the biggest problem is that they've got so little competition and that really is unhealthy for the customer.

Overall its a good service.

But they are forever changing things without letting you know and for an organisation that has such a virtual monopoly they really do whack you with charges that seem unnecessarily high to me.

What's worse they whack you if you sell something and whack you if you don't. The sooner they have some proper competition the better.

It is something that has hit me recently since i started selling more stuff.

On big money items i think the fees are very reasonable indeed, however for the smaller ones i don't think there are enough brackets. I tihnk a lot of things are in the bracket £30-£90, the difference is huge and to have the same fee for each extreme can put you off selling the lower items.

It does seem as though there should be some sort of law brought in as with other sectors of business which put some kind of a cap on the ownership of auctioning. Until there is a fair amount of competition, eBay can continue to charge whatever the hell they like. 10 years ago it would have seemed pointless, but with the world so rapidly converting to the internet to control a large proportion of their lives, it really seems to be up there with sectors such as electricity, power etc.
