Brainy Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 Heard what I thought was a good idea on the radio this morning, 6th place play 5th place, the winner plays 4th place, then the winner plays 3rd place in the final. I like the idea but there will be a few disadvantages.. Thoughts?

Stevosevic Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 Its the fine the way it is. Although i wouldnt object to suggestions not so long ago to make it 6 teams in the play-offs
lildave3 Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 Its the fine the way it is. My thoughts exactly, my old man suggested this to me a few weeks back. Keep it the same.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 Like one team playing potentially playing 3 games and another just one! That's the point though isn't it? Giving the third-placed the team the advantage.
lookwhaticando Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 Another one I heard was a play-off between the third-bottom team in the Premiership to play play-offs with the 3rd, 4th and 5th team from the Championship.
davieG Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 That's the point though isn't it? Giving the third-placed the team the advantage. Well until one of them finishes 3rd by one goal difference then the argument will start all over. If you're going down this route then the play-offs should involve just 3 teams, but then the money men would scream.
lildave3 Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 That's the point though isn't it? Giving the third-placed the team the advantage. Then you get a little momentum going maybe. Or the other team goes weeks without playing
Joe. Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 I think they should just keep it the way it is to be honest. The third placed team get a slight advantage anyway by playing the 6ty place side
davieG Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 Well I'm in the finish 3rd and you go up or at least play off against a Premier Side. Champions League for Champions UEFA for the also rans and cup winners. Call me old fashion, stick in the mud but that's how it should be. Could be worse though, Rugby Union Premiership, now that is crap.

Simi Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 I agree it should stay the same. Me too. As it has being this year the top 6 can be very close and it would be unfortunate if you missed out on goal difference to 3rd.
Joe. Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 Yeah but at least Leicester win that Well... we will this year anyway!
Brainy Posted 7 May 2007 Author Posted 7 May 2007 I take it your on about the play-off farce between the top two?
Maybes Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 I take it your on about the play-off farce between the top two? Top four isnt it?
Daggers Posted 7 May 2007 Posted 7 May 2007 They should handicap teams that do worse, like horses only the opposite...making the whole squad go out the night before to down 10 ales and eat a load of pies. We won a World Cup that way
Koke Posted 8 May 2007 Posted 8 May 2007 Well, how about we do it like the Italians. In Serie B, if the gap is 10 or more points between 3rd and the rest below, then 3rd place is also granted promotion. If it's less, then the playoffs will go through as normal. Thats what they do or so I have been told. I could be mis-informed though so dont quote me on it.
Geo V Posted 8 May 2007 Posted 8 May 2007 Heard what I thought was a good idea on the radio this morning,6th place play 5th place, the winner plays 4th place, then the winner plays 3rd place in the final. I like the idea but there will be a few disadvantages.. Thoughts? I havent heard of that idea but I like it. Its a shame that a team who finishesd about 20 points above another can somehow start the play-offs on level terms. Maybe I shouldnt be saying this as we only scarped into the play-offs on a couple of occasions but I think that some sort of advantage needs to be given to a club depending on where they finish in the league. How about a take on the cricket world cup !! Those who won all there group games took two points to into the super sixes. Maybe the team finishing in 3rd gets 3pts, 4th get 2pts, 5th 1pts and fook all for 6th. They then have a group where they play each-other once and the top two go into the final??
