lildave3 Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Zamora when he almost came to us the year we went up. The day we secured promotion (and sent Brighton down) we were singing Bobby for Leicester, and a few of our players were joking about with him. I thought it was a done deal. Shame it never happened.
Bryn Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 I'll give you the best one of all. Google "Ronaldinho loan St Mirren".
Father Ted Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 heres the link I'll give you the best one of all. Google "Ronaldinho loan St Mirren".
Bryn Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 But he went to psg for 15million instead Oh my you're right, I do apologise. I'd got it into my head that this thread was called "Transfer deals that "almost" happened" but you know what, thank God you were on hand to sort that mistake.
potter3 Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Not instead, he was already going, St. Mirren we looking to sign him in the gap between leaving Gremio (?) and joining Paris
davieG Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Its not like bullshit made up in the tabloids, it is from our own programme. But no, you must be right! The point is, being linked to a club doesn't mean the club have any interest in the player. As for our programme they are just reporting that an unsubstantiated link was made by the media. It still means FA. As for the if you can't take a bit of a debate what's the point of coming on the forum?
Webbo Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 The same article mentioned that Ipswich turned down both Ruud Gullit and Gazza after they had trials at Ipswich. According to Bobby Robson's column in the Mail on Sunday (ages ago) he wanted to sign Gazza for Ipswich but Gazza opted for Newcastle instead.
City Fan Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 As for the if you can't take a bit of a debate what's the point of coming on the forum? Well it wasnt much of a debate because you had already decided that what you said was right and there was no other possible view!
davieG Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Well it wasnt much of a debate because you had already decided that what you said was right and there was no other possible view! On the other hand you had decided you were right, No? based purely on the fact we were LINKED, as you should know from the current managerial shenanigans being linked has nothing to do with being interested it's one way media hype, that's my simple premise. As for me changing my mind, I haven't seen any evidence that convinces me that my view is wrong. But I agree with you now it's getting Let's draw a line under it and we'll go our separate ways on this point if you like.
davieG Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 Awwww you're no fun....... I am but the subject matter wasn't, well watching Aki... was sort of funny.
mancunianfox Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 According to Bobby Robson's column in the Mail on Sunday (ages ago) he wanted to sign Gazza for Ipswich but Gazza opted for Newcastle instead. Apparantly it was Robson who turned down Gazza. He also turned down Ruud Gullitt after they both had trials at Ipswich.
Ajax Treesdown Posted 15 May 2007 Posted 15 May 2007 It was true, that Brian Little turned down Davor Suker durign his reign. Shocking and Kenny Dalglish was also turned down by City.
Geo V Posted 16 May 2007 Author Posted 16 May 2007 Ive started a riot! When I started this thread I was hoping that the well read Foxestalk community was going to spill the beans on some stuff read in footballers autobiographies etc! Anyway, another one from Alex Fergusons book that made me chuckle was when Brian Kidd was being linked to clubs as a manager and everytime a link came out United had to offer him a new deal as Asst Manager in order to keep him happy. Fergie did finally let Kidd go shortly after he spoke to the chairman when Ferguson was on holiday and mentioned that they shouldnt sign Dwight Yorke and should sign Lee Chapman instead. Fergie went mad at the thought of his assistant making judgements on his opinion behind his back so when Blackburn made an approach he told him to fook off. Hasnt Brian Kidd done well since? Also Yorke didnt end up being a success either did he?? One other bit of tabloid stuff I can remember was Sturridge being linked to Arsenal when at Derby for £8m. We got him a couple of seasons later and he was hardly worth 8 pence.
