Leonisco Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Bayern complete Ribery transfer France midfielder Franck Ribery has joined German club Bayern Munich on a four-year deal from Marseille. Bayern will pay an initial £17.6m fee for Ribery, 24, and an extra £2.7m if Bayern qualify for the Champions League at the end of next season. Marseille chairman Pape Diouf said: "We've helped Franck to get where he is - we're not happy to let him go. "It's a good financial operation for the club, which proves Marseille can adapt to a market that is not easy." Ribery, 24, joined Marseille in 2005, but almost left the club last summer after an impressive World Cup. He has played 18 matches for France, scoring two goals. Other leading European clubs, including Arsenal and Real Madrid, had also expressed an interest in him. Link Shame, I wanted to see him in the Premiership next year.
Father Ted Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 and how long were they saying that he was coming to Arsenal for... Shame would have been brilliant to have had over here
lildave3 Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Everytime I seen him play this season he wasn't at his best, let's hope now that his future is settled he can get down to playing like he did at the world cup and before.
Simon Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Not seen much of him this season, but he was awesome at the World Cup. If he can recapture that form he'll e a good signing for them.
JoeyB Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Would of loved to see him in the prem tbh. Looked ace in the prem, and i would of thought he would of linked up well with Henry (if he came to arsenal)
dandannieldanok Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Good signing for Bayern but a rather steep price.
Joe. Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 Strange move for him I think. Bayern didn't even win the Bundesliga and let's face it, they're not going to win much else. I would have thought Premiership clubs to be interested in him...

Did they put a bid in? he can only go to a club that bids and Bayern were probably tho only team who made the move. arsenal are all mouth when it comes to singings tbh

Jonbluefox9 Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 At least they've still got Nasri. That should soften the blow as well as the money they've got for Ribery.
Tevez Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 I'm a big fan of Ribery, hope he gets in the premiership 1 time.
shen Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 I'm a big fan of Ribery, hope he gets in the premiership 1 time. He'll flourish in the Bundesliga, just like Rafael Van Der Vaart, Diego and Johan Micoud have done before him
lcfc_jme Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 He's gone to the proper league I agree with that mate. It's a proper league for fans. Frankfurt 07/08.
MC Prussian Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 The French Donkey playing for the most hated club in Germany? Hope Bayern Munich rots in hell next season and doesn't even qualify for a UEFA Cup spot. *Please, God*
lcfc_jme Posted 7 June 2007 Posted 7 June 2007 The French Donkey playing for the most hated club in Germany?Hope Bayern Munich rots in hell next season and doesn't even qualify for a UEFA Cup spot. *Please, God* Frankfurt have awesome fans. Schalke 04 is run by the fans (isn't it?!?). Legendary stuff.
Alexikokopops Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 I think your under-estimating them there. They did something right to reach the Champions League quarters* Except they didn't qualify for the Champion's League this season.
Manwell Pablo Posted 8 June 2007 Posted 8 June 2007 He'll flourish in the Bundesliga, just like Rafael Van Der Vaart, Diego and Johan Micoud have done before him Van der Vaarts struggled this season. EDIT: Actually so has Ribbery, and most of the Marsielle team early part ot the season to be honest.
Cat Burger Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 I quite enjoy watching Bayern play, I'm not entirely sure why they're the most hated club, I think it has something to do with their transfer policy? Anyway Toni, Ribery and Klose - great signings. Was hoping Klose would move to the Premiership as I think he is the best striker in the world, but looks like he will either be moving to Bayern this summer, or seeing out the last year of his contract at Werder.
MC Prussian Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 Bayern Munich are not only the most successful club in Germany, but also the most hated and envied in the country. They are one of the richest clubs in the world and have had many national players in their squads in the past 35 years. Beckenbauer, Maier, Breitner, "Bomber" Müller, Kohler, Rummenigge, Matthäus, Effenberg, Babbel, Jancker, Zickler, Ballack, Basler or Kahn are or were part of Germany's best. It's the fact that they buy off the national (and even international) talent and thus weaken the opposition. As for international players, remember Daei, Papin, Andersson, Laudrup, Lizarazu? I was glad they didn't do well this season, because Stuttgart's success means you can't just buy a trophy with all the money you have. In addition, Uli Hoeness and "Kaiser" Beckenbauer are both arrogant twats of the highest degree.
MC Prussian Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 On a sidenote, Bayern is coming to my town for a pre-season friendly. I might go there and watch them getting battered by my local team.
shen Posted 10 June 2007 Posted 10 June 2007 Van der Vaarts struggled this season.EDIT: Actually so has Ribbery, and most of the Marsielle team early part ot the season to be honest. He's had problems with discipline, but what I've seen of him, he's still the lynchpin in that hamburg side.
