A French Long Jumper was speared with a javelin at last nights event in Rome

lucky man as well considering he was discharged from hospital the same evening!

wow, never seen that before. I've wondered if a person who measures the distance ever got done, but not someone off to the side. Looks like it got him in the leg, very lucky.

according to the bbc it hit him in the upper body

Apparently if he'd stumbled forward another 3 meters before falling it would have been a world record.

Good job the javelin is blunt other wise this guy would be dead, though I did read that he has been re-admited into hospital with a suspected blood clot.

It's not real - it's one of them trick javelins, like the trick arrow-through-the-head you can get.

They're just trying to spice up a very dull pastime. Who in their right mind would go to see people jumping?

My kids go "look at this Dad!" and then jump...I smile and say well done then get on with the business of picking my nose or something. I mean to say - everyone can jump.

And that running stuff - give me a barrowload of the drugs they take and I'm sure I could run about a bit too.

As for the javelin, it's just stick throwing only without having a dog to fetch it.

Obvious to anyone with half a brain I reckon.
