Nationwider Posted 23 February 2006 Posted 23 February 2006 I heard a record today by Mark Ronson/Alex Greenwald called "Just". It's a cover of my favourite Radiohead song. Its absolutely amazing - a very clever, funky record. Radiohead given the James Brown Funky Drummer treatment....and it works! So what are your best and worst covers? Madonna "American Pie" would have to be one of the worst ever, IMO....as wll as Katie Melua's butchering of the Cure's "Just Like Heaven".
Alexikokopops Posted 24 February 2006 Posted 24 February 2006 A classic is Jeff Buckley's cover of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, also covered by Rufus Wainwright for Shrek. I prefer both covers to the original. Some other favourites: TV On The Radio's cover of Mr Grieves by the Pixies Hope Of The States' live cover of Beautiful by Christina Aguilera, done on Radio 1 Radiohead's live cover of Nobody Does It Better by Carly Simon Placebo's cover of Bigmouth Strikes Again by the Smiths Less Than Jake's album of Grease covers AFI's cover of Halloween by the Misfits Some of the worst: Both Avril Lavigne and Guns 'N' Roses butchering Bob Dylan's Knockin' On Heaven's Door Nick Cave covering A Rainy Night In Soho by the Pogues on his split EP with Shane MacGowan - while I like Nick Cave I don't like what he does with this song, one of my favourites when I was growing up. The Ordinary Boys ruining Little Bitch by the Specials for me

Radiohead's live cover of Carly Simon's Nobody Does it Better, as you pointed out, is an amazing track
Jonesy_rules Posted 24 February 2006 Posted 24 February 2006 For some good covers, you should listen to the livelounge on Jo WHiley - Jack J. this week did a good one of White Stripes!
Muz Posted 24 February 2006 Posted 24 February 2006 The Ordinary Boys did'nt do that well with the Little Bitch cover. The Sugababes is a recent one that makes me cringe , I bet you look good on the dancefloor cover.

Alexikokopops Posted 24 February 2006 Posted 24 February 2006 Rufus Wainwright's version of Hallelujah was brilliant, not a fan of Jeff's though! Have you heard the original? Even though the Cohen is the cat's pyjamas, I'm not a big fan of his version.

Even though the Cohen is the cat's pyjamas, I'm not a big fan of his version. yeh haha, dunno why i just prefer rufus' voice out of the 3, Cohen's is awsome with the choir singers or whatever they are but i find the rugged voice of rufus suited to the song. Plus it was on shrek 2 Can't stand jeff though at all, annoying voice
The People's Hero Posted 24 February 2006 Posted 24 February 2006 If anyone has these on mp3, please make yourself known to a member of the cabin crew (me).... I have one of the three, which you're welcome to, if you'd like it.

Leicester City Posted 25 February 2006 Posted 25 February 2006 Good Covers of Bad Songs: Hit Me Baby One More Time - Travis Cry Me A River - Lostprophets A Crime Against Music: Under The Bridge - All Saints. Already Been Mentioned Twice, But It Is Good Nobody Does It Better - Radiohead. I agree with that! I saw it and thought i would listen to it to be able to laugh but it is a brilliant cover. Fran Healy does brilliant with it. I really like Travis. Come back Travis!

Lemon Harpic Posted 5 March 2006 Posted 5 March 2006 I heard a record today by Mark Ronson/Alex Greenwald called "Just". It's a cover of my favourite Radiohead song. I think, on balance, that my favourite Radiohead song is "Where I End And You Begin". So many great candidates to choose from, though.
