Deathside Posted 22 March 2006 Posted 22 March 2006 I love punk band Snuffs cover versions they have done some real classics that include... Theme from whatever happend to the likely lads Standing in the Shadows of Love I Will Survive Soul Limbo (the theme from BBC's old Cricket coverage) Match of the day shake and vac advert Rivers of Babylon magic moments Girls Aloud's sounds of the underground and many many more More classic Snuff covers include I Think We're Alone Now (Tiffany) Blankety Blank (TV Theme Song) Rockafeller Skank (Fat Boy Slim) Don't Fear The Reaper (Blue Oyster Cult) Purple Haze - (Hendrix) Do Nothing - (Specials)
wallin1704 Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 What do you think are the best and worst cover versions you have heard? personally i think that the Vines cover of Outkast's Ms Jackson is one of the best i've heard.. as for the worst i'm gonna have to go with Travis's god awful rendition of Britney Spears Hit Me Baby One More Time. Any thoughts?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 Best - Dandy Warhols - Hells Bells Worst - Dandy Warhols - My Sharona
Kent Fox Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 Best: Almost anything by Me First & The Gimme Gimmies Worst: The rest by Me First & The Gimme Gimmies.
mancunianfox Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 I Heard It Through The Grapvine by The Slits. Close second for me though would be Scott Walker's version of 'My Death'. Worst...any of those crappy rap metal bands around the early 00's like Alien Ant Farm doing eighties cheese pop covers or Ozzy Osbournes cover of Staying Alive. Truely abysmal.
James. Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 Best: Easy Star All Stars dub version of Dark Side of the Moon (imaginatively titled Dub Side of the Moon). They also did a version of OK Computer (under the name Radiodread) but I'm yet to hear that. Worst: I dunno, probably something like Robson and Jerome - Unchained Melody.
Finnegan Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 The Tossers do a fantastic cover of Young Ned of the Hill by the Pogues. But I've lost it. That Dandy Warhols one isn't bad but I don't agree with the hype, sorry boys. Pennywise - Stand By Me is also pretty awesome. Worst? Dunno. Anything sung by four Irish she-he's "discovered" by Louis Walsh.
milkybarkid Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 Worst- Lilly Allen's version of oh my god , hate it
hairy Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 Best: Easy Star All Stars dub version of Dark Side of the Moon (imaginatively titled Dub Side of the Moon). They also did a version of OK Computer (under the name Radiodread) but I'm yet to hear that.Worst: I dunno, probably something like Robson and Jerome - Unchained Melody. Its crap compared the Dub Side. The Smashing Pumpkins did a brilliant cover of Dancing in the Monnlight
AoWW Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 Dunno about the best. One of the worst has to be Marilyn Manson's cover of Tainted Love.

samingram_uk Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 Worst- Lilly Allen's version of oh my god , hate it Have to disagree with you their. Although the video is a let down A animated Lilly Allen
the_don Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 I've just downloaded a free tribute album to OK Computer from Stereogum - http://www.stereogum.com/archives/mp3/ster...p;utm_medium=mc features a lot of indie bands doing interesting covers of one song each from the album, and the Cold War Kids, which is just rubbish. Jeff Buckley's Hallelujah is my favourite cover version...
AoWW Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 Oh, just thought of another 'worst'... Light my fire - Will Young. Sacrilege.
Finnegan Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 I've got a friend that'll probably still have the Tossers version of Ned of the Hill, Alex. I'll get onto it.
Blue Bob Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 Good cover Smooth Criminal - Alien ant farm Say Hello Wave goodbye - David Gray Killing me softly - the fugees Crap Cover Anything by: Claire Sweeny, that daft woman from the cruise ship (sorry I cant remember her name (please dont remind me )). The pop wannabe band wagon - Garath Gates, Will Young, Michelle "does my arse look big in this" McManus, Any old classics that you put a dance beat to for no good reason.
stez Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 i like a cover version to put a whole new spin on a song/tune i loved ghostbusters - xentrix and mark ronsons album is great, but the inspiral carpets did some classic in the past, such as 96 tears and tainted love. what the hell happened to jonesy rules? lightweight!
Jay Posted 18 July 2007 Posted 18 July 2007 I've got a friend that'll probably still have the Tossers version of Ned of the Hill, Alex. I'll get onto it. I have THAT very song!!! and infact I am listening to it at this very moment!! it's off the communication and conviction album!! If I can be of service let me know!!!
Nationwider Posted 18 July 2007 Author Posted 18 July 2007 Here's a good 'un: The Fall - There's A Ghost In My House
mancunianfox Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 Here's a good 'un:The Fall - There's A Ghost In My House Good call The Fall have done quite a few decent covers as well. I'm quite fond of their version of Victoria too.
Finnegan Posted 19 July 2007 Posted 19 July 2007 I have THAT very song!!!and infact I am listening to it at this very moment!! it's off the communication and conviction album!! If I can be of service let me know!!! Holy poo I just wikipedia'd that album. The Irish Rover, Ned of the Hill AND... Finnegan's Wake! Any chance you could be, ahem, encouraged into sort of, uploading a few pressies for the interested parties?
Simon Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Best: Phantom of the Opera- Nightwish My Heart will Go On- New Found Glory Enjoy the Silence- Lacuna Coil Walk the Line- Live Worst: Truly Madly Deeply- Cascada Sure I'll think of more later.
David O'Leary Posted 20 July 2007 Posted 20 July 2007 Rufus Wainwright's version of Hallelujah was brilliant, not a fan of Jeff's though! well said
