TrickyTrev Posted 24 February 2005 Posted 24 February 2005 Jimi could do more than the tricks, which don't impress me and I wish he didn't do them. He is FAR better than that. The introduction to Little Wing is one of the most beautiful examples of controla nd restraint of an instrument. Vodoo Chile (Slight Return) is a (still) unrivalled exhibition of control over feedback to effect the body and mind, the sounds are so diorientating its unbelievable. Like all great musicans, Jimi did more than play songs for the sake of them sounding good, he played songs with soul and feeling. That is why he is unique in the list of great innovative guitar players!
Random Burglar Posted 9 March 2005 Posted 9 March 2005 Best naturally talented guitarist has to be Hendrix!!
Deathside Posted 9 March 2005 Posted 9 March 2005 I think the following are worthy of a mention: Dimebag Daryl (Pantera / Damageplan) Dr. Know (Bad Brains)
Bedford Fox Posted 9 March 2005 Author Posted 9 March 2005 Dimebag Daryl (Pantera / Damageplan) Agreed Good guitarist!
Deathside Posted 10 March 2005 Posted 10 March 2005 Dimebag Daryl (Pantera / Damageplan)Agreed Good guitarist! The demise of Dimebag was very sad (and very scary)

Guest .... Posted 16 March 2005 Posted 16 March 2005 ok so no-one on this list has heard of john mclaughlin, michael angelo batio, steve morse or Gary moore. i think some people need to broaden there musical knowledge before they say the Edge is the greatest guitarist ever.

To me, that makes them the greatest guitarists in the world.

I know I am!
stez Posted 28 March 2005 Posted 28 March 2005 Nobody's mentioned Johnny Marr!! 83120[/snapback] he is indeed great, if a little *plinky plinky* if you know what i mean? john squire as a contempory of johnny marr was better because he did more styles. the solo on love is the law (on the album) is one of the best ever
Zetsword Posted 14 April 2005 Posted 14 April 2005 You guys are ridiculous, why not mention the underappreciated guitarists that play with passion like Steve Howe, he's one of my favorites. If you haven't heard South Side of the Sky, you guys need to take a listen, his guitar wails and Rick Wakeman breaks out one of the best piano solos ever in a progressive rock song

C-man Posted 14 April 2005 Posted 14 April 2005 I dont kno that many, but i kno Jimi Hendrix was genius
Cat Burger Posted 14 April 2005 Posted 14 April 2005 I don't know about the greatest ever but the most significant to emerge in the last 5 years since I've been quite into guitar music is Albert Hammond Jr, not that great, but a lot of people copy him.
FNQ Posted 23 April 2005 Posted 23 April 2005 I would say Eddie Van Halen or Brian May. May isn't technically as good as most of the names mentioned, but he is completely unique.
