Manwell Pablo Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Anygood? Seriously mate, I'd go to a Rochdale forum and ask. Theres only about 5 of us who have seen him play more than once or twice on here and none of us seem him play a league game. They've seen play quite bit and at your level so will be more informed to make a judgement.
Manwell Pablo Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Have they signed him or sommat? Six month loan deal was been rumored for ages.
Thracian Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Dodds was a former Academy Player of the Year who notched 65 goals in three seasons and who was described as the "most natural finisher in the club" by a former manager who still never picked him because he wasn't sufficiently experienced and because he was "sticking with experience". Instead Dodds played his smallish but occasionally significant part in a wonderful end-of-season climb up the table by Rochdale and will score goals for you provided fans appreciate what he is. He's not your immediately eyecatching, all-action centre-forward but a calculating now-you-see-him-now-you-don't specialist marksman. He curls a good free kick and can spot an opportunity anywhere. His bit strength is havidng the coolness to take those chances when he gets them. A hat-trick in the 2005/2006 County Cup final was typical. His general play is steady and supportive enough but he's really an out-and-out predator and better at that singular task than two or three who still seem to figure in our first team plans. Many Leicester fans believe Dodds should have been given a first team chance at various times but TPH wasn't one of them. In fact it is hard to remember him having a good word for any of our younger players - either he ones he's seen or the others he's not.
Manwell Pablo Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Don't take any notice of TPH - I doubt if he's ever seen Dodds was a former Academy Player of the Year who notched 65 goals in three seasons and who was described as the "most natural finisher in the club" by a former manager who still never picked him because he wasn't sufficiently experienced and because he was "sticking with experience". Yes, Louis made sure the Rochdale bench never went cold, he was a true asset. And that hat trick against the mighty Coalville Town was truely memorable. I think a offer of at least 10.25 million will be the minimum required to prize him away. You really are funny sometimes.

A guy asks quite simply if a bloke is any good and I follow a cryptic, unqualified assessment from a poster who has almost certainly never seen him with a few indisputable facts to back an alternative view. You highlight two of those facts and call it "funny".

I know you didn't intend this to be a comical post, but i've just rolled back the years and had a little accident. I wish the academy players you write about could read some of the stuff you post. I hope to read in year's to come when these youngsters are asked who they had to thank for where they are today and they respond ' Thracian off some Leicester forum, his relentless praise and farcical analogies really helped me to push on and carve out a successful career as a Traffic Warden '

A guy asks quite simply if a bloke is any good and I follow a cryptic, unqualified assessment from a poster who has almost certainly never seen him with a few indisputable facts to back an alternative view. You highlight two of those facts and call it "funny". They are funny as Louis didn't play a significant part in Rochdales turn around, he played a bit part in Rochdales turn around. So it's not a fact it's what some people would call a blatent lie. and a hat trick in the County Cup final I scored a try in a County Cup Semi Final once maybe I should try and get a trial at Tigers.

That actually read "smallish but occasionally significant part" as you well know. Like two winning goals if memory serves. Your try was in a semi-final and it was only one! Not the same.
The People's Hero Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I stumped Richie Richardson once. Can't believe the England selectors haven't been on the phone.

Milky Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I stumped Richie Richardson once. Can't believe the England selectors haven't been on the phone. How did this come about?
Ric Flair Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 How did this come about? Surely a Classic Match on Brian Lara's Cricket on the Mega Drive circa 1995/96? Or is TPH somewhat of a Jack Russell with the gloves?
Milky Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Surely a Classic Match on Brian Lara's Cricket on the Mega Drive circa 1995/96? Or is TPH somewhat of a Jack Russell with the gloves? I know he does keep wicket for his local side.
Manwell Pablo Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Full season is what I've been told. You're probabley right, a bit odd that we offer him a one year deal and just farm him out to League Two for the whole of that year though
The People's Hero Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 How did this come about? He played for a long time for a team locally to me called Lashings. It's owned by a chap who has a fair amount of money and he gets internationals in to play for his club. You may have noticed that they usually play most of the Southern counties (possibly have even played Leics) on spare weekends. They've fielded teams of 11 current full internationals before, including the Flowers, Brett Lee, Shoaib Ackhtar, Henry Olonga and many many more. I've played against them once for my school, at age around 15/16. Lashings played our firsts, they only had 2 internationals (past) at the time - I can only remember Richie Richardson - the other was a Sri-Lankan I think. Anyway, RR was incredible, he made a very quickfire 60 off against some good bowling before going down the pitch to a spinner, missing the ball and being stumped, he was probably 2 yards from his crease and was so committed he made no discernible effort to get back. Great to play against him though - he signed my bat afterwards and we had quite a long chat - genuinely nice bloke and had all the time in the world. Having said that - he was being put up in a lovely house and being paid a lot of money to play non-competitive games in the sport he loves! Since, my village team has been offered friendlies with them many many many times, we just simply don't have sufficient insurance cover for their superstars and the liability exposure presented by the spectators they attract. So there you go - not a terribly exciting story and I wouldn't claim to be the best wicketkeeper in the world, but it's a good memory!
Ric Flair Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 You're probabley right, a bit odd that we offer him a one year deal and just farm him out to League Two for the whole of that year though Very odd. The whole Louis Dodds saga at Leicester over the past few years has been strange though. At a time when we've hardly been blessed with quality strikers, he's not even managed a cameo sub appearance after 65 goals in 3 seasons in the youths and the stiff's. It doesn't add up because if he was good enough surely he'd have been given at least the odd chance, yet if the club didn't think he was capable of making the Max Gradel, then why keep offering him new contracts? Especially now the regime has changed and we're in a much stronger position to sign better quality players than in previous seasons. To list some of the players who have played up front for us in the past few seasons is eye watering and to think Dodds hasn't been able to force his way in to the mould set's alarm bell's ringing in my head.
