The People's Hero Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I know he does keep wicket for his local side. ..... until I got a new girlfriend who I can currently only see at weekends...
Kent Fox Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 It's a small world.. Richie Richardson used to rent a house off an old workmate of mine. Time for a 'six degrees of separation' thread.
Milky Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 He played for a long time for a team locally to me called Lashings. It's owned by a chap who has a fair amount of money and he gets internationals in to play for his club. You may have noticed that they usually play most of the Southern counties (possibly have even played Leics) on spare weekends. They've fielded teams of 11 current full internationals before, including the Flowers, Brett Lee, Shoaib Ackhtar, Henry Olonga and many many more. I've played against them once for my school, at age around 15/16. Lashings played our firsts, they only had 2 internationals (past) at the time - I can only remember Richie Richardson - the other was a Sri-Lankan I think. Anyway, RR was incredible, he made a very quickfire 60 off against some good bowling before going down the pitch to a spinner, missing the ball and being stumped, he was probably 2 yards from his crease and was so committed he made no discernible effort to get back. Great to play against him though - he signed my bat afterwards and we had quite a long chat - genuinely nice bloke and had all the time in the world. Having said that - he was being put up in a lovely house and being paid a lot of money to play non-competitive games in the sport he loves! Since, my village team has been offered friendlies with them many many many times, we just simply don't have sufficient insurance cover for their superstars and the liability exposure presented by the spectators they attract. So there you go - not a terribly exciting story and I wouldn't claim to be the best wicketkeeper in the world, but it's a good memory! I've heard of the lashings, but i never thought they'd play a school side. Sounds quality.
Manwell Pablo Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Very odd. The whole Louis Dodds saga at Leicester over the past few years has been strange though. At a time when we've hardly been blessed with quality strikers, he's not even managed a cameo sub appearance after 65 goals in 3 seasons in the youths and the stiff's. It doesn't add up because if he was good enough surely he'd have been given at least the odd chance, yet if the club didn't think he was capable of making the Max Gradel, then why keep offering him new contracts? Especially now the regime has changed and we're in a much stronger position to sign better quality players than in previous seasons. To list some of the players who have played up front for us in the past few seasons is eye watering and to think Dodds hasn't been able to force his way in to the mould set's alarm bell's ringing in my head. Totally agreed, baffling.
The People's Hero Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I've heard of the lashings, but i never thought they'd play a school side. Sounds quality. To be fair mate, this is about 7 years ago. They wouldn't play a school side now. In fact, now they have some very quick bowlers (have had the 2 quickest in the world on their books) and I certainly wouldn't want to face them on *that* pitch. When I actually played against them - they were a very good side, but with only two guest (paid) international players. Now they've got loads. Think they were at their height 3 or 4 years ago - had Merv Hughes and the like as well down there. They played their home games for a long time very locally to me and I used to pop across and see them regularly. I'm sure the owner used to have something to do with Maidstone United FC and also has tried doing a similar thing with small football clubs before. On a side note, I've also played in a football team with Steve Butler for about 5 games without ever knowing who he was or realising that he was *THE* Steve Butler (just after he left us).
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Look, I've never seen Louis Dodds play but I am quietly confident that he's shit and never going to play regular first team football for us. So let's stop talking about the little scrote for one day. Perlease!!!

Thracian Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Good call. I'm happy. Wish we could do the same with Fryatt. At least until our next game. But someone will come in with "we should keep Fryatt" or "he's the best striker we've got".

Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I'll admit that Dodds hasn't been given a fair crack of the whip during his time here, but I think that a loan to a League One or Two club will be benficiary to him and his development as a footballer (playing against opposition stronger than where he has been previously, in the Conference). Hopefully all will go well if he goes to Lincoln, he'll come back here and prove his worth.
Stevosevic Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Don't see him having a future with us. Couldn't get into a poor side under Kelly and MA obviously doesn't rate him, Sappleton, Odhiambo, De Vries and Hammond are ahead of him in the pecking order. League two maybe his level.

Fryatt's hair in your signature is the epitomy of the term ' Buzz Cut ' on Pro Evolution Soccer Editing Player facility. That's been troubling me for some time.

Finnegan Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Oooh. I just found a fiver down between in the sofa. Sorry, what was this thread about?

Our Lincoln connection seems to be growing - perhaps helped by contact with the club during the time of the McAuley transfer. People might have been quite impressed with the way they tried to play football - particularly as they almost whooped us in a friendly. Sheehan was set for a loan there before deciding he had a chance of a first team breakthrough and it wouldn't surprise me if one or two others went there during this season.
THEBIGJOHNSTEADER; Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Oooh. I just found a fiver down between in the sofa. Sorry, what was this thread about? I have friends to stay every weekend for a pissup, I must have collected 50 quids worth of change during the last 12 months
The People's Hero Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Our Lincoln connection seems to be growing - perhaps helped by contact with the club during the time of the McAuley transfer. Yeah that'll be it, Tim Davies and Rob Kelly must have built up a really good understa..... Oooh, no, hang on, they're gone. Nothing to do with that at all, unless you're suggesting they didn't have our 'contact details' until them.... 'OOoh Gerry - now we've got Leicester's fax number, let's keep that, just in case we want some overrated youngsters on loan, yeah?'
Finnegan Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 I have friends to stay every weekend for a pissup, I must have collected 50 quids worth of change during the last 12 months Hmm, that's pretty lucrative! Only problem is, you've probably lost that in cleaning products gettin rid of the mess, like.
The People's Hero Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Hmm, that's pretty lucrative! Only problem is, you've probably lost that in cleaning products gettin rid of the mess, like. Can anyone lend me a few grand?
Manwell Pablo Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Can anyone lend me a few grand? Im sure Louis may have done had you not been so mean about him.
Kent Fox Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Can anyone lend me a few grand? Seeing as you're obviously best of mates.. ..Thracian might
The People's Hero Posted 30 July 2007 Posted 30 July 2007 Im sure Louis may have done had you not been so mean about him. He'll need to keep hold of all that. He's not going to be on the LCFC gravy train much longer - and I've heard Thracian repellant spray doesn't come cheap, either.

Why don't you ever, just for once, add something constructive to a conversation? Your endless juvenile asides do you no credit. And all your mocking just bounces off me cos I've lived most of my life and am more than happy with the way its panned out. But for someone as young as you are - and as singularly gifted as the impression you convey - I'm surprised you're not out there changing the world - or at least improving your cricket. Chance is only there for so long.

Chance is only there for so long. Not sure what gives you the impression of any of the above. I'm routinely mediocre in almost every single way. Whilst I've tried my hand at cricket, football and hockey with a little success, I've never excelled at any of those. Nor have I with any musical instrument - and god knows I've tried a few! If constructive is overhyping our youth teamers to the point where they will always dissappoint - well, I could do that, but do we really need another? You play the fool so well!
