Best LCFC Game...

you planned to see but never made it for whatever reason.

Mine unfortunately was one of the all time great games to have taken place at Filbert St it was against Man U in April 1963 an Easter Tuesday evening game, having just drawn away to Man U on the Monday, the day before, we also played on the Saturday before that -3 games in 4 days, yes we did, lazy arses today :D .

I'd been to work and finished at 5.30 jumped on my push bike and cycled from near the General Hospital in North Evington to Filbert St, paid a penny to park my bike in some ones side alley in Burnmoor Street, all around the ground it was a heaving mass of people and why not we were sitting 2 or 3rd in the league we'd only lost about one game since Christmas and if I remember had the chance to go top.

I queued for ages to get in but alas never made it, although my brother did. There were 37,000 in the ground and I along with many others were locked out. There was no Radio Leicester, Radio 5, Sky, Teletext in those days if you wanted to know the score for a midweek game you bought a paper the next day.

So I decided along with hundreds of others to hang around outside, people were relaying the action over the wall at the back of the stand keeping us informed as to what was happening.

So what was the score well we won 4-3 Denis Law got hat-trick for Man U but Ken Keyworth got one for us and we duly went to the top of the league with about 5 games to go and an FA Cup Final against Man U to come.

The rest is history we, totally blew the cup final and for some inexplicable reason lost most of the remaining games to finish 4th.

Funny really but for a game I didn't get to see I remember it like it was yesterday.

That ladies & gentlemen is the agony and ecstasy of being a football fan.

The Tottenham FA cup match...

I was pursuaded not to bother going

Same with me. I was gutted.

But I didn't get persuaded, I just didn't go. :|

I don't think your reason for not going are sufficient to reside in this topic, you're just a couple of fair weather fans. ;)

That story is fantastic, it epitomises the affinity that fans of the same team possess. Shouting what as going on over a wall, some of the prawn sandwich eaters who attend football matches these days would'nt even bat an eyelid if fellow fans where stuck outside. You cant help but think that the money in the game has ruined it. And as for 37 thousand fans in a 22 thousand seater stadium, that must have been amazing for everyone there.

<_< lol

I don't think you'll get many more storys that are similar to yours davieG, surely real fans would of found a way to get in ? ;)

I've heard tales of cars/buses breaking down, people being arrested, being ill and ending up in hospital there must be hundreds of stories out there.

Well I think the record is 47,000, I've been in there with 42,000 in fact I can't remember why it was closed at 37000 I'm sure they could have got more in perhaps they put in some extra seats for those prawn sandwich guys

By the way the only seating was in the main stand the Kop, East & North Stands were all standing

Off the top of my head... 47,298 is our record attendance v Tottenham in the cup I believe.

F**king hell. What am I doing with my life?

God i should have been born 30 years ago. 47,298 thats more than double "capacity crowd" at Filbo. Well maybe we will get 70,000 at Filbert Way next season

I missed Coalville's game that they won to get into the FA Cup first round a few seasons back to go to Leveins first game in charge.

2000 at owen street where the average gate must be about 100.

Pretty gutting to miss out on that.

"We've all let ourselves down badly, but we must not take anything away from Wimbledon"

Leicester City manager P***r T****r

He, he - Adi and Sturidge replaced by The Benj and Anar - no wonder we lost and were crap under Taylor with that brilliant thinking! And i'm shocked to see Eadie played over 30 minutes in that game.

What ever happened to Steafan Oakes? Is he still the son of the former sher-wodey-wodey man - which is the only coment ever used for him in the leicester dvd's i believe!

No, I think he changed dads when he moved to Wycombe!

My sister decided to get married the day we beat Carlisle 6-0 at home in the late 70's or early 80's and I even think all the goals came in the first half!

I was talked out of paying £250 a ticket to go to Anfield to see us play Liverpool after I found some ropey London ticket agency selling tickets for home end. Im not 100% certain what the score was but we won the match, maybe 1-0. It was during the MON years.

iirc we beat Liverpool twice at Anfield under MON.

A 1-0 victory with Ian 'legend' Marshall scoring a last minute winner and a 2-0 success with Cottee and I think, Phil Gilchrist scoring. I await to be corrected no doubt.

I think you are right. I can remember beating Man U with a Cottee goal also but duriing the glory years I`d only get to about 10 games a season as I was a bloomin retail manager. As a non season ticket holder I found it impossible to get tickets for games like Anfield and Old Stratford but on this particular occasion, I was offered tickets and was talked out of it by my brother as he wouldnt tag along as the day would end up costing over £300 each and we would probably have to be quite quiet amongst the scousers which would have been almost impossible as we love a sing song lol

Had a ST for the past 8 years

When I said I was persuaded not to go, that meant no-one else was going either.
