HELP: Job Interview

Recommended Posts

I've got a big job interview tomorrow. And frankly i'm bricking it. Having just completed my A Levels I've got an interview for an Accountancy Firm in Leicester for the position of Trainee AAT Accountant. If anyone has any interview advice or tips I would be greatful, or if anyone already works in a similar field to what im applying for. Thanks

If you haven't already done so, try to find out as much as you can about the firm - obviously look at their website in detail, and also Google them for press coverage, what types of work they specialise in, perhaps who one or two of their clients are etc. You don't need to know the partners' inside leg measurements, but if they ask you what you know about their firm, or what made you to apply to them, you'll need to show you've done some homework.

If you've got a copy of your CV/application, check what's on it and what you were originally asked. They might well want to expand on some things you've written. For example, if you've put down "I enjoy working as part of a team", be ready to give an example or two of when you were in a team situation. Just have plenty of examples of things you've done that flesh out your original application. They can be really mudane, and they can be about anything - it doesn't matter.

They will expect you to be nervous - most people are at job interviews - the adrenaline will help you to focus. Just remember to look at the person who's asked you the question when you reply. Eye contact is a good thing.

Generally speaking, honesty is the best policy. Any interviewer worth their salt will spot a nervous liar a mile off.

Given the type of job you're going for, I wouldn't try to be too clever or best buddies with the interviewer(s). Just be yourself, and if you do find some common ground, or get into a non-job conversation, just go with the flow.

....and Good Luck!

apparently, tho i always used to do that, and then they'd answer them during the interview! but you will get asked so it doesn't hurt to have a few, but also to have a good reply in case they've been answered, i had an interview on thursday, and couldn't think of any questions, but i said if anything came up, would it be ok to e.mail them... and they seemed impressed with that...

having said that, i also managed to wink at the interview woman when she was seeing me out.. now i wouldn't recommend this, but they are checking my references as we speak! :D

at my last interview, tho, the woman asked me if i worked out - i was like - 'excuse me?' - she said it again, and i'm like, 'well, i haven't been in town long so...' and breathing in... but it turns out she just wanted to point out there was a gym in the same building, phew!

...and, glory be, they employed me! - i now have a job in norway despite not speaking norwegian, how fu(king great am i :worship: !!!!!

Oh yeah common interests! Look around the room for a calendar or a hobby or if they wear a wrist band etc and that will start a non business conversation!

Sun Calendar on the wall
