Ozwin Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/l...cup/6968099.stm Bit shocking with all that has happened in the past week. Further tests are need to find out what happened exactly and well hopefully he will recover fully, I wish him the best.

""It appears Clive's heart stopped twice and mouth-to-mouth didn't work so the paramedics had to use a defibrillator. " good grief. thank goodness MA isnt one of our medical staff. bless him. no amount of mouth to mouth will get someones heart starting again.. you need to do chest compressions for that or, better still like he said, they used a defibrilator...
Ozwin Posted 29 August 2007 Author Posted 29 August 2007 Oh and apologies if this is an old link. I just noticed the Clive Clarke topic and I'm guessing it's in there somewhere already. Anyway, yeah totally, it's nice to see that both clubs put the players metal state into consideration when abandoning the game. There's more to life than a derby like this one. Hope he fully recovers anyway.
MPH Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Doesnt sound goodCant see him playing again me either. bless him. i hope he is ok. but i happen to think you are right...
Trumpet Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 me either.bless him. i hope he is ok. but i happen to think you are right... I dont think i'd want to play again, not after something like this!
AyewJoking Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Doesnt sound goodCant see him playing again Are you serious?
Toby or not Toby Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Are you serious? I think he could well be advised not to play again for his own health!
Ozwin Posted 29 August 2007 Author Posted 29 August 2007 I don't get how someone's heart can just stop like that. I mean, fooballers are the healthiest of the healthy right? They don't smoke, they eat healthily and they exercise all the time. It's just so sudden and out of the blue when something like this happens. Would over playing have something to do with it? Like maybe he still wasn't fully fit and was pushed past his limits?
Trumpet Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 I think its just unfortunate its happening in football, it could happen to anyone, anywhere at any time.
Toby or not Toby Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Its fortunate it was in changing rooms too, the physio could have taking longer to get to him etc whereas in changing rooms he was right next to him!
ferry jambo Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Are you serious? Yep your heart doesnt just stop, well not if your an athletic footballer in your mid 20's and good health He would have to surely have a pre existing medical condition which caused it and once it is diagnosed he will almost certainly be told to stop playing at which point insurance wise he will be a nightmare so even if he wanted too he couldnt There was a similar case up here last season when a hamilton kid collapsed on the park and had to be resusicated, even though he wanted to return, the club, sfa and doctors told him he didnt have a choice If he plays again I will be highly surprised
shiv Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Doesnt sound goodCant see him playing again if ur heart stops three times you've had it.... lucky escape for him i guess and yeah he definately won't play again
stripeyfox Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 It is rare but not unkown for someone who appears to be fit an healty to drop dead for no apparent reason. The Portsmouth keeper (Flahavan?) died a few years ago after passing out in his car (after a similar incident where he collapsed on the field) and David Longhurst collapsed and died of a heart attack on the pitch playing for York in 1990. It seems likely to me that the improvements in clubs physios and doctors and better provision of medical equipment at football grounds since then no doubt contributed to save Clive Clarke's life.
MPH Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 I dont think i'd want to play again, not after something like this! valid point. poor guy...
OriginalRobboFOX Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Doesnt sound goodCant see him playing again I dunno, Sol Davies had the same thing last season and I believe he is still playing....

The average joe on the street wont be fortunate to do so with paramedics and a de-fib machine close by. I think his career is over. But he wont mind. He has a second chance.I dunno, Sol Davies had the same thing last season and I believe he is still playing.... sol davis just collapsed though. he didnt have his heart re-started.
AyewJoking Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Didnt Kanu used to have heart problems? Did he have an op or did he naturally get better?
jonw88 Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Twice! Jesus, i knew it would be something serious. Poor guy, bet this was the last thing he was expecting as he went into the changing room. I hate to say it, but we need to now find another left back, I don't see him coming back to football at least for the next year or so after having two heart failures, if at all! Any ideas for new left backs? Stefanovic seems pretty likely to leave Pompey, if only we could grab him!
ferry jambo Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 I dunno, Sol Davies had the same thing last season and I believe he is still playing.... He had a stroke Different things medically Strokes effect the brain components and his was relativly minor
ferry jambo Posted 29 August 2007 Posted 29 August 2007 Didnt Kanu used to have heart problems? Did he have an op or did he naturally get better? He had a hole in his heart which was discovered in a medical if i remember correctly and it was surgically repaired although it could still cause him problems, however im sure portsmouth and any other club who have had him have ensured the special equipment needed is always around for him
