Master Fox Posted 6 September 2007 Posted 6 September 2007 Drinking cider is a bit like having this done to you.........
Nick Posted 6 September 2007 Posted 6 September 2007 Hop, no offence mate, but all of that is complete bollocks.I know of many many young people who prefer real ale to other alcoholic drinks. Not only this but if you think my original post was a dig solely at you then you've completely failed to grasp the point. CAMRA are not an association I would associate myself with - but I wouldn't go as far as saying that ALL their members are nasty beings. The above isn't true. I have personally witnessed "TPH" CAMRA Slapping, CAMRA Baiting and CAMRA Bashing. OOOH how he loathes you CAMRA boys. I have seen him spit on Timothy Taylors driveway and bully Adnams's children by staring at them menaciningly while holding a spoon. I went to the Moor Green Show on bank holiday sunday. There were 32 Real Ales in a row in the CAMRA beer tent. I had a half of every last one of them. Then I was drunk and didn't mind talking to the CAMRA people behind the bar of whom 90% were fine and 10% were tos*sers. It's just like any other ratio of people except the fundamentalist CAMRA members really are difficult to stomach. There can we all be friends now, you piddling bunch of lightweight sissy's? I am available to hire on a consultancy basis for conflict management and mediation sessions. N.
Kent Fox Posted 6 September 2007 Posted 6 September 2007 Shepherd Neame beers are horribly uninspiring and often not very well kept as they simply do not give a sh it about who is selling the stuff and how it's being served.2 exceptions are the bottled spitfire/bishops finger beers. Nah, bottled just don't do it for me. SN's Master Brew (I think it's called is ok). Have you been to Suffolk? My folks live there and I fully recommend anything Adnams do. IMO and my own experience, most 'young' people don't drink ales because of the perception of ales being a drink that's drunk by oldies, and it's bitter!!I've only got into Ales\beers after a meeting a forum favourite, Thracian, when I met him for a drink at the Swan and Rushes!! he intoroduced me to Babbar and a couple of other Ales and to say I was surprised by the taste and complexion of these beers, and it totally went against my predisposed opinion of ales\beers!! I think another reason younger peeps don't usually drink it, as you mentioned, is that they don't always appreciate those complexities. Many take some getting used to and if you try a bitter and/or a real ale you don't like, you tend not to try it again. It's a bit like Scotch or Brandy. There are many different types and flavours.
Rincewind Posted 6 September 2007 Author Posted 6 September 2007 I don't have the figures ffor the percentage of young real ale drinkers but as a guide there are more threads on here about Stella than real ale. CAMRA as an organisation do come across sometimes as bossy, but maybe they have to to get people to listen. I know some pub landlords who don't like CAMRA mainly because other pubs in their are were chosen as pub of the month instead of theirs. I know one place that holds a festival the same time as a rival pub. When POM are chosen it is normally the same ones that get nominated. Any off to work now. BTW Olives on Queens road have moved into the upstairs room. The lower bar is being turned into a Subways. Time for a pint of Theakstons before work in Olives I think. Their other beer is John Smiths so not much choice.
Lord Nibblington Posted 6 September 2007 Posted 6 September 2007 Nah, bottled just don't do it for me. SN's Master Brew (I think it's called is ok). Have you been to Suffolk? My folks live there and I fully recommend anything Adnams do. There's a pub just round the corner from where I live that does/did quite a nice Adnams. Of course, I've not been in awhile, and they been taken over, so they might not actually do it anymore!

If they do, and you don't live far, I might be seeing you in there for a refreshing pint in the near future then, Nibbles Although, your staements are somewhat cryptic. As cryptic as a Mandaric, I say. Do they do 4,5 or 6 Adnams? Or have they shortlisted the drinks?

But I can't remember what it was called... partly because I haven't been down for a while, and partly because I just order 'pint of the Adnams please' And also, like I said, since I last went down, they've got some new owners. So I've got no idea if they've changed the bitters or not.

Then you should consider it you duty to go out to the aforementioned public house and inform the few other Kent based ale drinkii as to the truth in this matter. Shall I ring your good lady and tell her you need to be out on Friday on a matter of national emergency??
The People's Hero Posted 6 September 2007 Posted 6 September 2007 Quite a few pubs in and around Maidstone sell Adnams beers. There is a pub in West Malling which stocks 3 different Adnams beers I believe, despite being in Kent. Have you had anything from the Flagship/Nelson's Brewery at Chatham, Kentfox? From memory, Crows Nest, Friggin' in the Riggin, Flagship and Nelsons' Blood were ones to look out for.

Embarrasingly, I haven't been in. Not really good enough is it? As soon as I have a job, paid some debts, appeased the good lady and am allowed out.. ..I'm there. (Still trying to work on Charlton to no avail )

You might be able to make some money too, offering rooms or perhaps B&B to FT members!
Kent Fox Posted 6 September 2007 Posted 6 September 2007 Charlton is a must. You might be able to make some money too, offering rooms or perhaps B&B to FT members! That is a good idea and one I would normally consider. However, I have a 6-year old who has more toys than f***ing Hamleys and there is only floor space. I am offering back rubs to some of my female neighbours and will also valet cars in exchange for sterling. Time will tell. And I still have some time..

Suffolk_fox Posted 6 September 2007 Posted 6 September 2007 On this whole beer subject, a Q for TPH/Kent Fox I stay down in Kent a bit for my job, usually a couple of times a month - I haven't had any SN but have seen it around a fair bit. What is a really nice local session ale? And any decent places to drink it?
Thracian Posted 6 September 2007 Posted 6 September 2007 I know more about football then you ever have or ever will and you know it. And I wasn't talking about real ale drinkers in general I was on about CAMRA which is full of tits who spout rubbish and force their bollocks opinions on people who don't want to hear them. Exactly like you. I'm very much against spreading the word on real ale, particularly my favourite tipple. There's not much of it around as it is.

PM me and I'll do some research for ya

Floating Fox Posted 6 September 2007 Posted 6 September 2007 So did I Real Ale is genius. Don't question that.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 6 September 2007 Posted 6 September 2007 "Oh he won't go to a pub unless it has real ale" "F**k 'im then, he can f**k off down the Maltshovel and we'll stay here"
Floating Fox Posted 6 September 2007 Posted 6 September 2007 "Oh he won't go to a pub unless it has real ale""F**k 'im then, he can f**k off down the Maltshovel and we'll stay here" Is that a quote about me? I do enjoy a nice pint of real ale, it's how ale is meant to be really....althought I find a fosters or strongbow is twice as refreshing & has great taste. Although people that dirnk Carling, sort it out.
