Agree about Timothy Taylor's landlord, I reckon it's the best draught pint I've had. And that was in Blackburn once for an away game, I believe you may have been present. Probably cost me about £1.50. Even the ones I've had in Leic have been delicious.

Tiger is nice though - I never really appreciated having a nice, tasty, session-(able), local beer available in 90% of pubs, until I came back to Kent. We simply don't have that here.

They do that in that hippy type bar on the Queens Road.

I've played cricket against Bradford CAMRA on several occasions and have found them to be an agreeable bunch.

I'm not down with the beer elitism thing though. When it comes to ale, I prefer to plough a lone furrow. There's literally hundreds of interesting brews in the supermarkets these days. Who needs a membership card to enjoy them?

None taken. TBH when I joined I thought my annual subs were going to a good cause. I still do in a way. Its only around £20 a year. Hidden among all the shite Camra have some good campaigns. I tend to try and avoid the worst elements of the membership. I have a free holiday each year because I volunteer to work at beer festivals. You have to be a member to do that. I get free digs and free beer. Not bad. True I have to work pretty hard but the actual people I work with are OK. Mind found out that stewards are regarded as low-life by some. I met a fellow steward at Peterborough and he was telling me that because he lives in London he doesn't qualify for transport. Anyway there was talk about sharing a taxi but it fell through because the other people didn't want to share with a steward. Its that kind of person that gives other CAMRA members a bad name. The Criterion normally puts on good fests. A young manager, knows his ales and runs a pub that attracts all sorts. A far cry from the image of polonecks and pipes.

Three of the beers I sampled (the Ascot Alligator, Pilgrim Progress and the Grand Union Honey Porter) weren't that great, but sometimes that's the way it goes. We connoisseurs accept that on occasions at festivals like these, there will be beers that are not to one's taste.

But then I tasted the Fuller's Discovery. In my experience blondes rarely disappoint ( ) and this was no exception. Another quality product from one of London's few decent breweries.

I hear it's been a slightly disappointing turnout to date at the Criterion. Hopefully this won't dissuade them from running similar festivals like this in the future.

Whilst you correctly identify Fullers as one of London's few decent breweries, it amuses me that you see fit to label yourself as a connoisseur simply because you have a CAMRA membership card.

Did Ultra say he was a member? While its true that you do not need to be a card carrying member to know and enjoy real ale a lot of members join because they do. Some go too far though by carrying little bottles to festival, pour half their drink into it, label it and stick them into a cupboard at home. What a waste. I don't class myself as an expert. I forget which beers I've had sometimes and who brews what. Let us all just drink and enjoy it be it as a member or non-member. The ale tastes the same no matter what your status is.

I know of many many young people who prefer real ale to other alcoholic drinks.

Not only this but if you think my original post was a dig solely at you then you've completely failed to grasp the point.

CAMRA are not an association I would associate myself with - but I wouldn't go as far as saying that ALL their members are nasty beings.

Gonna have to admit i'm a member of camra.If any of you real ale drinkers went to the last Wetherspoons Real ale thing,you could join for £20 and get £20 worth of wetherspoons beer tokens back.......Bargain!The good beer guide's a great read too.
