Alexikokopops Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 It's bloody marvellous. We used to play GY!BE in sixth form to the kids playing their nu-metal tunes, we fought the system. Fez is a fan too. Oi, Fez, get over here!!
Fez of Mahrez Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 Listened to The Dead Flag Blues and Gathering Storm on the way to the Forest game on Tuesday. Really got me up for the game. Transcends most other forms of music.
Finnegan Posted 20 September 2007 Author Posted 20 September 2007 I find Godspeed to be a bit one-trick-ponyish at times but Skinny Fists is fantastic. The Slow Riot ep is by far and away the best thing they've done, IMO, hence my always harping on about BBFIIIrd.
Milky Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 I've got that! Still not sure about it really. At times it can be brilliant, at others annoying. Sometimes i just want them to get on with it!
Alexikokopops Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 Mark too!! And Milky Joe A Silver Mount Zion are bloody brilliant too.
Mark Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 It was Coney Island, they called Coney Island the playground of the world.Oh, Sleep is mindblowing.
Alexikokopops Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 I nearly cried when I saw A Silver Mount Zion live and they played the Triumph Of Our Tired Eyes. That were beautiful. And that's why I'm 40-50% gay ladies and gentlemen.
Mark Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 Never been keen on A Silver Mount Zion, check out Set fire to Flames if you haven't already!
James. Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 Sounds like I need to get involved. What's the deal boys? Anyone fancy providing me with a link or two? When Fez says "transcends music" my ears **** up. The last time he said that was for RJD2.

It's all fairly similar and I guess it would either grab you or wash over you but personally I find it some of the most atmospheric music I've ever heard, which is the sensation I get with RJD2 as well, hence the idea of transcension.
stez Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 can i go all middle aged on everyone's ass, and ask who we're talking about?
Daggers Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 can i go all middle aged on everyone's ass, and ask who we're talking about? I think some new-fangled beat-combo have released a new vinyl pressing. Certainly beats those old wax disks - remember them? Wax disks were shit.

Wax disks were shit. not too good on the bass note the old wax, but kids these days; there 'music' is just a noise. it all sounds the same. not like when i was a lad.
Finnegan Posted 20 September 2007 Author Posted 20 September 2007 Godspeed You! Black Emperor again, stez.
stez Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 Godspeed You! Black Emperor again, stez. bands even had proper names in the olden days too <_<
Daggers Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 And they played proper instruments at a volume that didn't cause lasting damage to the auditory organs

The original post is about the album in my avatar, Lift Yr. Skinny Fists Like Antennas To Heaven by Godspeed You! Black Emperor To confuse matters I've put a different album title as the writing under my avatar. A Silver Mount Zion (or Thee Silver Mount Zion Memorial Orchestra and Tra-La-La Band as they were once know) were formed from three of the GY!BE members.
Finnegan Posted 20 September 2007 Author Posted 20 September 2007 I have to say, none of these prog fairies can jerk the tears like Baz Lurhman's take on Mary Schmich. How anything so supposedly inspirational can choke me up is an enigma.
Alexikokopops Posted 20 September 2007 Posted 20 September 2007 How brilliant is Slow Riot for New Zerø Kanada? Bloody brilliant, that's how brilliant. Finners, can you change your name to Blaise Bailey Finnegan III please? I think about 5 people understand the whole of this thread, marvellous.
Finnegan Posted 20 September 2007 Author Posted 20 September 2007 Finners, can you change your name to Blaise Bailey Finnegan III please? Get on it, Mark!
