Nath Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 The whole team spent more time in our own half though...
Daz.I Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 Is It me or was megsons squad selection absolutely woeful against charlton ? Fryatt deserves a bite at the cherry but a unfit usless carl cort who did nothing to earn a place from his poor perfomance at QPR chambers had a half decent performance against a poor league one side stearman the one season wonder and hume wide right has this man got a clue about selecting the team at all , I'm gonna get behind him we need points we're 21st ffs but by the looks of the team we had no ambition of winning
potter3 Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 We had two full backs in midfield What's the logic behind that? It's not as if we have an injury crisis or something either.
Jimmy Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 Hume plays wide right for Canada, played there alot for Tranmere and was playing there when we destroyed Watford 4-1, get over it
Daz.I Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 Hume plays wide right for Canada, played there alot for Tranmere and was playing there when we destroyed Watford 4-1, get over it He puts in a performance there because he works his BoIlocks off all the time , the whole point of being a winger is to stretch the play and being a CF he tends to come in the middle narrowing the game down , Right? Attacking midfield if not CF we need a experienced winger out there
lcfc_jme Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 What I don't seem to understand is the fact that we have two international wingers in our squad, yet we play a defender and a striker out on the wings. That to me is a sign of somebody who's happy to maybe nick a point here and there and has no actual idea of what he's doing or what it takes to win games. fooking ridiculous.
Ultra Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 Bringing on two defensive players when we were 2-0 down made no sense whatsoever. Today's performance was every bit as bad as any seen in the Levein or Kelly eras. Get ready for yet ANOTHER relegation battle..
Geo V Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 I must admit i do feel sorry for Megson who has inherited a side that now has now Weso and no left-back of any talent. He has got to find his best team which may take a few games which is both disastrous and unfortunate, especially as it took MA a few games before he found a decent system and line-up after trying a few. I wasnt impressed today but I wont have a real go at GM unless he takes more than a couple more games to find his best side.
Mark Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 Hume plays wide right for Canada, played there alot for Tranmere and was playing there when we destroyed Watford 4-1, get over it Right sided forward was what Martin Allen called it, he's dropped back to right midfield since the change in manager.
Tommeh Posted 22 September 2007 Posted 22 September 2007 The team today was very "kelly" in my opinion. Out of the midfield only Clemence was in his rightful position and looked like he knew what he was doing there. I'm ok with Hume right mid personally but when he plays down the middle he offers us so much more. Chambers is not a centre midfielder instead our best right back so why the hell is he not playing there?? Sheehans been doing well recently but with him and mattock in an away game in front of 20,000 2 on the left hand side both with very little experiance is a silly choice in my opinon. And what is wrong with Kaebi and Ferreira?? when I heard todays team for the 1st time over the tannoy at 2:40 I wasn't at all optamistic and It's no wonder why.

I would get used to megson playing players out of position, at forest for a few games he put Wes Morgan up front for 3 games running You need to get the man out soon or you will be the 2nd club he sinks down to league 1...with any luck

We were shit and lucky to win at Forest. That's 1 game. We were worse today than we were at Forest and got punished. It should have been more. That's 2 games. We've got a game against Villa on Wednesday that I'm fully expecting us to get battered in, and that'll make it 3 games. The game against Stoke really doesn't look too promising at the minute, either. How many games you willing to give the man, Geo?

Shame this form is two seasons too late though. And the fact you're still four points behind Hartlepool says it all... There may well come a time when you can come on here and take the widdle. It hasn't quite arrived yet, though...

The real test is next week against Yeovil, if we can beat them then i will say that we may be back on track, got to say im worried about dirty leeds, nobody can beat them.

You are right that we maybe should have lost at Forest but dont forget we gave them a goal start and against QPR, for 75 mins we did enough to win that game but obviously messed it up. As for "How long", well Im not sure if you can put a time on it. MM wont sack GM after 5 games but if he has us hovering above the relegation zone come Xmas then we may well see another change. Today was woeful and a terrible performance against one of the better sides in the division and GM needs to take the flak for some horrible tactical decisions but I am praying that things will get better or else we`ll have an optimistic season turned into another season of shite.

Lillehamring Posted 23 September 2007 Posted 23 September 2007 doesn't this thread exist elsewhere for what it's worth, and i'm not going to repeat what i've thought elsewhere, many times, on this subject... i wouldn't be surprised if MM is already scouting for a real, proper replacement for MA, and that he's got in GM in in the same way he brought worthington in, to steer the ship until the right man comes along; after all nobodies gonna be upset if megson goes... and if by some miracle, megson pulls of a promotion season - - then MM can just say 'he's not right for the premiership' and boot him.
foxin_oz Posted 23 September 2007 Posted 23 September 2007 Kaebi and Ferreira play on the right. Actually Ferreira can play anywhere in the midfield ... he is right footed however and would be more suited on the right ... Djeziri is a left-sided player but I guess he'll need time to work his way into consideration ... Kaebi should be our right winger ... no doubt about that ... I don't know who advised Megson on team selection but it was dreadful ... players out of position everywhere ... a total shambles and a far cry from our effort against Watford who are top now ... Megson shouldn't have said our players are a much of a muchness ... I think he got their response yesterday ... he'll be gone soon ...

I think he got their response yesterday ... he'll be gone soon ... i think people are unfairly misconstruing this phrase - my understanding of the phrase is that the players are 'much the same as each other' as far as quality, that's what he was trying to say, it doesn't imply that they are bad... so , i don't think he can be criticised for that, however, he is looking like a very poor manager....

Harpenden Fox Posted 23 September 2007 Posted 23 September 2007 Megson needs to stop skulking on the touchline with his hands in his pockets and his tie at half mast. He looks like he's just left the pub after a couple on a Friday night. He looks nervous. His body language betrays this, and that kind of thing soon passes to the team. He also needs to stop publicly criticising his players and using the 'I didn't buy them card'. I reckon we have enough decent players to be top 10. They just have to believe it and want it. If he keeps saying we're not good enough in public, everyone will start to believe it. It's just basic managment skills you could pick up from reading one of those 'how to be a manager in 60 minutes books' you get at the airport. The man has no class, and needs to start inspiring everyone, not criticising them.
coale39 Posted 23 September 2007 Posted 23 September 2007 I still cant get my head around Megshit only playing one midfielder. (Clem) I would understand if we had injures but 3 out of position in midfield? Most of the team is fit? Not surprised we have been bullshit. How did it finish yesturday? Sheehan Clem Kish Chambers? WTF is that? I would have laughed if someone had suggested that last season. Cort up front? FFS. Megson will never be a success anywhere again unless he is just extremly lucky because the mans a fool.
DanTheFoxBhoy Posted 23 September 2007 Posted 23 September 2007 Why Stearman was put up back I'll never know. Furthermore, we needed wide players, Milan found two wide players, and Megson uses them by... not using them at all? And WTF was Sheehan doing in midfield? Furthermore am I reading correctly that he was then subbed for N'Gotty?!
Candidcamera Posted 23 September 2007 Posted 23 September 2007 I have been reserving my judgement on Gary Megson and I have to say this hysteria is silly. He has been here 8 days and the choice of Matty Fryatt was to be applauded. Less so the dropping of N'Gotty.
