Stuliasz Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 There has been a lot of debate about where Hume should play. In a lot of the recent matches, it seems that people outline 'how hard he works' but often there is no end product. Surely it would make more use of his work rate to have him in midfield? I've not been to the away games but at home I've been impressed with how he has done on the wing. He's not a "winger" in the natural sense of the word but he still causes problems and gets goals from that position, but saying that I haven't seen his away performances. As a striker, he just seems to have too many spells in a season where he is not scoring and his only main contribution is his running. I have also heard people mention how they would like to see him 'in the hole' behind two other strikers. What does everyone think?
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Megson is going to stick with 3-5-2 now. Hume would be our best fit as the attacking central midfielder in that, in my opinion. Clem and Weso/Kish behind him. Mattock out left, Kaebi out right. Two from MDV, Fryatt and DJ up front. The usual suspects at the back and safe hands in goal. You know it makes sense.
Ric Flair Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Striker for me. He can play any of the other positions fairly well, but up front is where he's most likely to score and we still don't have a striker that scores more goals than he does.
Dames Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 In the hole so he gets a bit of freedom and he's our best bet of a goal from distance.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 As an aside, further to him being a magnificent creature, it's fascinating that Megson is willing to take him off. Not saying it's good or bad but we've barely ever seen him being substituted in the past two years and now he's been hauled off fairly early twice in four days. Not sure whether it's down to injury or whatever but he's not looked good in either of those games at all.
Geo V Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 In the hole. I think he possesses great vision and a lovely shot from outside the box so I think he can fill the role that someone like Teddy Sherringham used to do for so long by playing just behind one striker. In the right side with attacking midfielders, especially wide ones, he will be able to link up play and close the gaping back that sometimes appears between the middle of our midfield to the strikers. It would only work with those attacking mids or else he`ll pick the ball up in midfield and have one target to aim for. It wouldn't stop him getting into the box just like good old Teddy used to and his goal scoring record was superb from that type of position. Hume playing in right-midfield is not only a waste of his abilities but its throws the balance of the side so IMO, he shouldn't be used there.
eaststandtom Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 could he play as 3rd attacking midfielder in 5-3-2 formation? then we can get a big man upfront with fryatt????? oooooooooooooo
Simi Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Megson is going to stick with 3-5-2 now. Hume would be our best fit as the attacking central midfielder in that, in my opinion. Especially if most of our teams are going to be defensively based, it's important to have someone with that little bit of knowledge going forward, it's not Clemences specialty and certainly not Kishs at the moment, with Weso out as well. If we are going to stick with 5-3-2, I'd like to see.. Hume---Kish---Clem MDV--------DJ
Daggers Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 As an aside, further to him being a magnificent creature, it's fascinating that Megson is willing to take him off. Joe. Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Now Megson seems set on 3-5-2/5-3-2, I think it would be best to play Hume up front. He's still the best striker we've got I think, he just needs the right strike partner, preferably De Vries for me.
TheBlinding Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 As others have said, the third central midfielder would be his best position. He just drops too deep as a striker leaving whoever is left upfront totally isolated and when it's Fryatt/De Vries there is no pace and we never look like scoring and when it's DJ the ball just comes back at us because he's not the type of player that holds it up. With Kish and Clem we wouldn't be left too exposed.
Charnwood Norris Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 He's still our best finisher (though Fryatt shows glimpses). It would be ignominious to play him in any other position at this moment in time.
WetFlannel Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 leicester really have no proper width, when ive wathed the top teams play, they generally have good wide players - this is what leicester dont have... personally, i dont see hume filling this void, but at the moment, hes the best we have (im not even going to mention kaebi because im frankly fed up of the name now)
dandannieldanok Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 Striker, whatever people say I am not convinced his passing is good enough to fill any midfield role.
Moreton Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 He played well against watford on the right wing.
Mikey Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 I said striker. Last season he was our top scorer and most of the time was the only player that looked like scoring. Why change his position when he was one if not THE best player last season. Although we do now have some decent Strikers and if we were to be plain a 3-5-2/5-3-2 then I would play him just ahead of Kish and Clem (with Weso injured). He would link up well with the strikers there as well. If this happens I would like the strikers to be MDV/Fryatt ot MDV/DJ.
Jack Posted 27 September 2007 Posted 27 September 2007 'In The Hole' for me because he likes to drop deep and he would link up well with the striker. He had a good game against Watford on the right wing but the only thing is when he plays wide, we lack width because he drifts into the middle quite a lot.
