Manwell Pablo Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 I know some of you don't care (enemies to football I say ) But what do we think to tonights UEFA Cup 1st round 2nd legs this evening. Blackburn (0) Larissa (2) 8pm Bolton (1) Rabotnicki Kometal (1) 8pm Metalist (1) Everton (1) 7.45pm Spurs (6) Famagusta (1) 3.45 pm And seeing as your all so interested in Scottish football all of a sudden I'm sure you'll all be taking a very keen interest in Dnipro (0) Aberdeen (0) To be honest I can see it being a difficult night for everyone bar Spurs and prehaps Bolton if they finally start playing well.
Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 Ah, the patronising tone of Mablo... how I have missed thee. Unfortunately I'm out tonight but would have been interested in watching the Blackburn game. Mate at work supports them and get the feeling he'll be quite nervous tonight.
Stuliasz Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 What I want to know is how did we not get 1st round draws like that in the Uefa Cup?? I mean Anorthosis Famagusta and Metalist really aren't any Atletico Madrids or Red Star Belgrades are they.

I mean Anorthosis Famagusta and Metalist really aren't any Atletico Madrids or Red Star Belgrades are they. It's a different ball game in the UEFA Cup now, most of the decent clubs manage to steer clear of each other early on and anyway most of the good teams are in the Champions League due to each country being allowed about 4 clubs in each season.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 ....theres a seeding system isn't there? pretty safe to say we weren't seeded. This might be wrong but as I recall it, we were seeded and Red Star were about the best team we could play. Either that or we weren't seeded and when they were drawn out as Crvena Zvezda, I thought "I've never heard of them, we should beat them" and thought they were the worst team we could play. One of the two.
Stuliasz Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 ....theres a seeding system isn't there? pretty safe to say we weren't seeded. But even Ipswich managed to get a p*ss easy draw against some team from Luxembourg if I remember rightly. Think we were just a bit unlucky combined with bad seeding.
Kent Fox Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 Blackburn (0) Larissa (2) 8pm Blackburn - just! Bolton (1) Rabotnicki Kometal (1) 8pm Bolton through. Metalist (1) Everton (1) 7.45pm Everton through. Spurs (6) Famagusta (1) 3.45 pm Famagusta - 0-6 tonight Maybe Spurs, then.

Ric Flair Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 Why on earth weren't Red Star Belgrade seeded, ridic. I blame Peter Taylor.

Manwell Pablo Posted 4 October 2007 Author Posted 4 October 2007 Some serious shocks tonight. Blackburn looked finished. AaB, obviously missing their talismatic ex Captin, have dumped out Sampdoria. Looks like Empoli are going out as well. Dinamo Zagreb are about 5 minutes from knocking out Ajax Panionios are about see of Socheux, quite a few times like Zaragoza and even Bayern are looking far from through. Then theres Aberdeens fantastic against Dnipro, Kudos Aberdeen. I have to say listening to channel 5 commentry and pundits is driving me crazy they're nearly as bad as radio Leicester at times, quite how they could sit there and talk about Evertons game tonight as if it was something they should win if they turned up was beyond me. I admit Metalist aren't exactly the most famous of teams but they have some really good player and they're at home! They covered the game last week they saw they were a capable side, basic research. Annoying.

Joe. Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 True, they are pretty poor but at least they've dumped Barnesy to Strictly Come Dancing He'll never be as good at dancing as he is at rapping. Fact.
Kent Fox Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 Good result for Everton - They were run pretty hard.
Manwell Pablo Posted 4 October 2007 Author Posted 4 October 2007 Sampdoria gone, Empoli gone, and now Palermo have quite amusingly conceded and 97th minute equaliser at the Renzo Barbera against European footballing giants Mlada Boleslav. With Roma and Milan losing this is shaping up to one of the worst weeks in Italian European football ever.
purpleronnie Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 Glad to see Aberdeen through, their fans are brilliant. Well done to bolton, everton and tottenham also.
WetFlannel Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 i dont think anyone really stands a chance with bayern munich in it, tottenham will run them close
Manwell Pablo Posted 4 October 2007 Author Posted 4 October 2007 i dont think anyone really stands a chance with bayern munich in it, tottenham will run them close Depends who comes in after the CL Group Stage. But I would have to agree based on tonight, I would have said Zaragoza would run them close but they've gone tonight. Palermo too are a very competent very good side and would be tough to beat over two legs but I think they've gone to penalties this evening. Loads of upsets tonight. EDIT: And Palermo have gone out on pens. Unbelivable.
Master Fox Posted 4 October 2007 Posted 4 October 2007 Did you know that Famagusta is actaully a ghost town. After the Turkish invasion everyone who lived there evacuated The team is actually based in Ayia Napa (Woo Woo) on the other side of the green line.
