Trumpet Posted 15 October 2007 Posted 15 October 2007 Thats bullshit anyway, since when have "hooligans" sat in their designated seat? Plus with all this fancy new, Hi-tec CCTV in operation, they can spot someone in the standing areas? Especially a known "Hooligan"
Floating Fox Posted 15 October 2007 Posted 15 October 2007 Plus with all this fancy new, Hi-tec CCTV in operation, they can spot someone in the standing areas? Especially a known "Hooligan" Exactly the point I was going to make, it has been the introduction of CCTV that has decreased hooliganism, which is a good thing. The same process would happen if there was a standing area!
Raj Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 LCFC would have an area allocated for standing IF the authorities and the rules would allow them. Im sure if any such amendment to the law allowed such areas,we would be one of the first to have one.

I am delighted with your confidence but I very much doubt it to be true...the big question would be "who would pay for it and what would be the return?" Mandaric is (as we all know) spending money on the club in order to recoup a windfall should we go up. Does converting L1 & L2 into a standing zone add any value to a future sale? I doubt it. The club would go for it IF it became legal AND we managed to find funding for the project. Without those two conditions this topic is a dead duck.

Without those two conditions this topic is a dead duck. Tim Davies...out of his own pocket. FACT! To be serious,as you well rightly put it,its all about money isn't it? If they still get people attending in L1 and elsewhere in the ground, there's no real urgency to change anything. However i think the club realise they are losing out atmosphere-wise as our dour record at The walkers proves. I think in that aspect alone they may need to do something to improve upon that and standing areas to create much needed atmosphere may be the incentive if results don't improve at home.

If this is ever to have legs then the source of funding will have to be external from the current set-up at the club. I'm plucking the figure itself out of thin air - but considering that major work would have to be carried out to segregate the standing supporters from the seated but may fancy a stand when they see how much fun it is supporters I'll wager it'd be a good couple of mil. Anyway, England play tomorrow and then we'll be hearing no more about it until the close season
Simi Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 The people they manage to interview when they get these debates going is laughable. Some bloke in a tie that has never been to a match before. Usually dodging the important questions about what the majority of the fans think, not just the Police and there costs.
Joe. Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 If I'm honest, this debate will go absolutely nowhere and things will remain the same for a long time. a) Do you really expect clubs to pay for conversions of stadiums when they already have perfectly suitable stadiums? (In their eyes). Which leads onto: b) Some clubs can't afford it and therefore there would only be a few clubs might possibly go through with the idea. c) Will it benefit the clubs in any way? Will it really make more people come and watch a football match? Overall, clubs just wouldn't have this idea in my opinion. I doubt highly that they would be prepared to shell out unecessary money when there's actually no benefits for them.
Alexikokopops Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 How much would converting a seating area to standing increase the capacity by? Or would it not due to all the safety stuff?
Simi Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 How much would converting a seating area to standing increase the capacity by?Or would it not due to all the safety stuff? The bloke on SSN says it's not a case of cramming people into one area, although you can fit more people in the areas. No doubt the safety would be very tight though.
filbertway Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 Seats fold back anyway? Why would it cost money to change when they surely wouldn't need changing?
Simi Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 Seats fold back anyway? Why would it cost money to change when they surely wouldn't need changing? It's obviously going to cause mass injuries to EVERYONE.

potter3 Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 Thats the how the german one looks, this is the Bremen stadium I think. Basically the backs of the seats have been replaced with the metal bars, that way the back of the seats don't bang your shins I guess, and the bars should prevent people from falling forwards.
Floating Fox Posted 16 October 2007 Posted 16 October 2007 Spot on Paul. Can I get an Update on the sig please as well? Joe, I don't think all clubs would undergoe changes if it was madae acceptable, but even 1 or 2 is a great sucsess. It's more about having the option & then being able to pressurise the club into making the desision. If Leicester we're allowed to, safety permitting, then I would think that the people at the top would put it into place.
Raj Posted 17 October 2007 Posted 17 October 2007 Seats fold back anyway? Why would it cost money to change when they surely wouldn't need changing? Apparently its not just as simple as taking the seats out. The slope/elevation of the area has to be more inclined to enable people at the back of the standing area to see.
