Chairman of the Bored Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 It's nice to see Students out enjoying themselves. I remember when Dire Straits played a "free gig" at Leicester Uni, before Sultans of Swing was released. My, how we hepcats swooned at Mr Knopfler's liquid fingers. In later years there were some cracking punk gigs there. The Stiff Tour featured (Costello, Wreckless Eric, Nick Lowe and Larry Wallis) and the Jam (a couple of times). My persoanl faves were Subway Sect supported by Leicester's very own Disco Zombies. I pogoed so high I banged my head on the ceiling. Then in the post-punk daze, The House of Love played a particularly awesome set. Much, much later I recall Snow Patrol supporting Ash. Enjoy.
hairy Posted 12 November 2007 Posted 12 November 2007 Lived over the park from the Uni. Saw many a good band there. Gaye Bykers on Acid, Loop, Spiritualized, Wedding Present, Grant Lee Buffalo, The Aloof all did amazing sets there. They had Planet Dog nights there too. Great place. Its all changed down there now.

Big Jam fan myself, what we're they like?
Ajax Treesdown Posted 13 November 2007 Posted 13 November 2007 The Cribs are w**k (in my opinion) Sounds like an average night to me. I went to the De Montfort NME Tour about 6 years ago, when it was: Andrew WK Lostprophets The Coral Black Rebel Motorcycle Club
Lineker's Left Foot Posted 13 November 2007 Posted 13 November 2007 Probably some good bands, but the NME ?? I'd rather read Closer...

Ladies and Gentleman We are Floating in Space (I think that's what it's called) is a bloody brilliant album.

C-man Posted 15 November 2007 Posted 15 November 2007 Got tickets today D I O Y, Y? are quality and so are the Ting Tings
Chairman of the Bored Posted 18 November 2007 Posted 18 November 2007 Big Jam fan myself, what we're they like? If I said 11/10 you'd know what I mean? They were awesome. Weller was the dogs. Snarling, angry young man, all over the place. Frantic and frenetic. You'd come out of Jam gig wanting to kick down anything that got in your way........ ............it petered out mind, as soon as you had to jump on the 41 Netherhall bus back to reality. Seriously though, they were SUPERB.
Alexikokopops Posted 20 November 2007 Posted 20 November 2007 Spiritualized.Fantastic. Don't get much of a mention round here. Ladies and Gentleman We are Floating in Space (I think that's what it's called) is a bloody brilliant album. fook me that album's brilliant.
Finchy Posted 17 February 2008 Author Posted 17 February 2008 T'was a great gig. Cribs were class, Joe Lean were pretty amazing too, and i can still see flashing lights from the strobe lighting "Does it offend you, yeah? " used.
accessory Posted 17 February 2008 Posted 17 February 2008 Did Johnny Marr play with the Cribs, like he did in Leeds?
Finchy Posted 17 February 2008 Author Posted 17 February 2008 No sadly, i was hoping he would after hearing about that but no. Like he'd come to Leicester . Did he play Leeds? I thought it was just Glasgow?
accessory Posted 17 February 2008 Posted 17 February 2008 No, he definitely did Leeds. It was in the papers last week. He played "Panic" with them. The locals loved it!
Finchy Posted 17 February 2008 Author Posted 17 February 2008 That's so annoying! Would have been amazing if he played Leicester. It's near the end of the tour tho, and the Leeds and Glasgow ones were right at the start so he probably got fed up with the tour and went home.

Ladies and Gentleman We are Floating in Space (I think that's what it's called) is a bloody brilliant album. saw them at northampton roadmenders, talk about an intimate gig, everyone just sat on the floor, very mellow...
Wils Posted 18 February 2008 Posted 18 February 2008 T'was a great gig. Cribs were class, Joe Lean were pretty amazing too, and i can still see flashing lights from the strobe lighting "Does it offend you, yeah? " used. I went to the gig at Norwich last week. 'Does it offend you yeah were quality, the place was buzzing and for Joe Lean. The Cribs were amazing as usual, one of the best live bands atm in my opinion.
Finchy Posted 18 February 2008 Author Posted 18 February 2008 Yeah Does It Offend You Yeah? was just 40 minutes of pure noise! But combined with the lights they used it was awesome! And Joe Lean were surprisingly good.
