davieG Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 From OS More Call-Ups For City Squad Posted on: Wed 14 Nov 2007 Alan Sheehan and Ashley Chambers have both been called up by their respective countries for the forthcoming international matches. Sheehan, who has made 14 appearances for the Foxes so far this season, has been drafted in to the Republic of Ireland Under-21 squad for their UEFA European Championship qualifiers against Montenegro in the Podgorica City Stadium this Friday (November 16) and Bulgaria at the Lissywoollen Stadium, Athlone on Tuesday (November 20). Meanwhile, Chambers, an integral part of City's Under-18 side, has been called up by England Under-18 Head Coach Brian Eastick for their friendly with Ghana next Tuesday (November 20) at Gillingham's Priestfield Stadium.
Thracian Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 Well done Alan and Ashley. Hope you both do well.
The Reverend Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 Not sure but, knowing who you are (and no I won't divulge), that seems rather a mischievous comment to make, true or otherwise. Don't you think?PS: Well done Alan and Ashley. Hope you both do well. Go on!
Thracian Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 Go on! Sorry, but I don't break confidences. However the guy knows exactly what I mean and, until he explains differently, I think he is seriously out of order.
loverofinsanefox Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 Well just look at the guys previous other posts. All pretty much concern academy players, mostly Joe Mattock (who is competing for Sheehans place ). Make of this what you will, whether it be a player, ex player or someone currently involced within the set-up. I wont delve or suggest any more theories though Thracian!

Mmmmmm indeed, definitely someone who likes Mattock, agent perhaps, and if thats so,saying damaging statements about Sheehan(his LB rival), is waaaaaay out of order.
Flynny Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 Agent for Dodds and Mattock I'd assume from the posts, which would explain how Thracian knows him possibly? Mysterious.
XFS Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 at some of the posts! I'm not a regular poster but am pop down to check out the banter every now and again. Just so happens that the only topics ive started (to which there were only a hanful) have been about Dodds and Mattock. Apologies to Thracian I didnt mean to cause offence by the post about Sheehan, it was a rumour that I had heard, sounds a daft one so I thought if people had heard it apart from me. If its just me then its my mate pulling my leg!
Joe. Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 I think you're really Thracian II, Thracian's arch nemesis.
David O'Leary Posted 14 November 2007 Posted 14 November 2007 Sheehan deserves the call, what a legend
Mark Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Sheehan an unused sub in Irelands 1-0 defeat to Montenegro, strange that they started with lower division players in the back four.
Thracian Posted 16 November 2007 Posted 16 November 2007 Sheehan an unused sub in Irelands 1-0 defeat to Montenegro, strange that they started with lower division players in the back four. And didn't win. I'm bloody sure Sheehan might have threatened to create something against the likes of Montenegro. Sounds like a total waste of his time. He should have a word with McAuley about how to change their attitude.
lookwhaticando Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 He should have a word with McAuley about how to change their attitude. ... be a rock solid centre back and play for another country?
Thracian Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 ... be a rock solid centre back and play for another country? Didn't McAuley suggested he might give up international football if he didn't get picked? And didn't he soon get picked afterwards?
Webbo Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 Didn't McAuley suggested he might give up international football if he didn't get picked? And didn't he soon get picked afterwards? And you're suggesting that Sheehan does the same? He was an unused sub in an under 21 game and you think that would force the FAI into caving in on his demands?
Thracian Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 And you're suggesting that Sheehan does the same?He was an unused sub in an under 21 game and you think that would force the FAI into caving in on his demands? Of course I don't think that. My comment was tongue in cheek but there was a serious side. I think travelling to international matches and not getting a game is a total waste of time. It's bad enough having people go to these games, break their routine and get injured in training without them not getting match time as well. McAuley was reported as considering his international future after not gettting a game and the next thing he gets picked. He's been picked for City every game since Allen was moved on too. Both coincidences I'm sure. But it has always seemed to me that the nicer and more amenable a person was, the more people were likely to shit on him and the more reactionary and contentious they were the more likely a manager was to either leave them out completely or make sure they were involved. Doubtless Sheehan values his international outings but, for me, I cannot think of anything worse than sitting watching my team-mates play - especially if they were losing or things were going wrong. I'd have reacted no question but no, I'd never seriously recommend it for others. I just think some players can put pressure on the manager and get away with it.

If you can name 5 subs but only play 3 then someone's got to miss out. Doubtless Sheehan values his international outings but, for me, I cannot think of anything worse than sitting watching my team-mates play - especially if they were losing or things were going wrong. If he was picked as a left back then it's hardly likely that they'd bring him on to change the game.
lookwhaticando Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 My comment was tongue in cheek So was my reply.
Thracian Posted 17 November 2007 Posted 17 November 2007 a) So two players have their time wasted whatever - doesn't make it right and certainly wouldn't make it any easier to accept being one of the two. b) If my team had failed to score I'd always have someone with Sheehan's delivery on the pitch. Why else would he have been selected?
