Ultra Posted 16 December 2007 Posted 16 December 2007 SIGN: Fulop KEEP: Henderson, J. Chambers, Kenton, N'Gotty, Rowe-Turner, Mattock, Sheehan, Gradel, King, Hayes, Porter, Cort, Campbell, A. Chambers, Odhiambo, Sappleton DUMP: Douglas, Logan, Nielsen, Stearman, Maybury, Kisnorbo, McAuley, Kaebi, Wesolowski, Kishishev, Clemence, Hellings, Hume, Newton, Fryatt, John, Hammond, DeVries, Dodds The only reason for keeping DJ would be to give him a chance of recouping the excess money we spent on him. Cort, N'Gotty and Kenton would be retained to retain at least some experience in the squad, although if Holloway took a different view I wouldn't slate him on here. From some of the responses I've read, there still appear to be some "sacred cows" within the squad. There shouldn't be. Some crowd "favourites" have proved they are far too inconsistent to feature in a promotion campaign, either in this league or the one below.
Hullfox Posted 16 December 2007 Posted 16 December 2007 KEEP:Stearman - Yes, i really have put Stearman! As much as i do slate him, i still think he has potential, get him in the reserves for a few months get his confidence up then get him back, i think we'd probably see a different player then. I'd rather we got rid and definitely see a different player.

Some crowd "favourites" have proved they are far too inconsistent to feature in a promotion campaign, either in this league or the one below. I could probably argue for keeping the ones highlighted in bold as well but right now, as you say, there are no sacred cows. I still think Clem will come good for us and I definitely think the others highlighted can contribute to a successful squad (I'd be particularly gutted if we let Weso go), but I worry that there is a serious malaise in this squad right now, and if we retain too many it will only continue. If we need to sell any of the above then so be it.

But I'd have raised my eyebrows if you'd put the "slapper in white" in your list for dumping.

Fez of Mahrez Posted 16 December 2007 Posted 16 December 2007 A lot of these lists make me chuckle. The likes of Douglas, Maybury, Hellings and Kishishev can't be blamed for the current predicament. I think the key is that everyone should be fair game to be dropped. It's clear that the likes of Kisnorbo, McAuley, Wesolowski, Fryatt and Hume have been in the comfort zone for too long now. The big-money trio from Birmingham have all failed to live up to expectations and haven't been an improvement man-for-man on any of those names listed. Mattock, Sheehan and King have shown glimpses of what they're capable of but we are no better off now than when we had Johansson, Yeates, Porter, Jarrett, Johnson and Hughes. In fact, King actually reminds me a lot of Hughes which is quite amusing. Holloway needs pace in midfield and strength up front. Whether we're going to get that from Kaebi and Collins John looks doubtful. As much as some of our fans may scoff at certain strikers, if they can give defenders a battle and know where the back of the net is, I don't care how old they are or who they play for at the moment. How on earth he's going to meet the expectations he's set himself for the transfer window, I have no idea. I can't see Norris touching us with a bargepole when Ipswich for one are interested.

I think i can count on one finger how many of these players are attainable for us. I'd rather we got rid and definitely see a different player. Yes, you're probably right
Jack Posted 16 December 2007 Posted 16 December 2007 Not sure mate our club never keeps us informed. Ferreira joined Championship side Leicester City on loan until the end of the year, but he returned to Benfica in November, making no senior appearances for the club.
Thracian Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 It isn't going to be easy seeing the backs of some of our players which is one of the reasons I feel Holloway has done considerable damage criticising them in public. Some have only recently signed and are hardly likely to get even comparable offers from anywhere else. Why would they move instead of doing a Douglas? Yet we don't just want to add numbers on numbers, we have to trim the squad and improve the quality. Generally I've got faith in most of the players to some extent but, for the sake of the exercise, I'll say what I'd do given the chance in January... Retain (sign if possible): =============== Fulop (No argument. Quality goalkeeper. Little chance of getting him though). James Chambers (Pace, determination. Versatility. Clearly an asset) Hume (Pace, effort, reasonably consistent goalscorer) Campbell (Pace, close control, difficult to mark) Sheehan (Free-kick specialist who should be developed as such and used at full-back) Hammond (Pace, strength, determination. Can upset any defence) Porter (Good passer, willing defender, good engine, fairly versatile IF he recovers well from injury) Mattock (Promising natural left back with strength and reasonable skill) Gradel (genuine right winger with pace, skill and goalscoring/creating ability) King (Accurate passer, at home in defence or attack, heading ability, reliable) McKay (Reserves striker, good movement, closes people fast, passes well, lots of stamina, consistent and reliable) Kenton (Reliable utility defender) Kisnorbo (Spirited and committed defender) Wesolowski (His injuries worry me but he makes a difference to the side. Consistent passer. Upbeat personality. Skipper material ) Odhiambo (Young back-up player. Competent, quick, good passer, potential scorer, guaranteed effort) Ashley Chambers (Inconsistent but quick, skillful, good passer and asks questions of defences) Logan (Decent deputy to Fulop) Billy Kee (Prolific scorer in youth football. Worth taking chance to develop) Carl Cort (I'd retain faith tiil the end of the season) Lee Cox (Aggressive and tight-marking right-back. Does the simple things. Supports attacks) N'Gotty (Experienced defender, versatile, solid and good passer. Mostly reliable) Hayes (Only left-sided option. Quite positive. Suspect fitness) Sappleton (Developing player. Many rough edges but useful for Reserves and Academy) ========================================================== That's 23 players and we'd need another 6-8 more, plus backing from other youth players. ========================================================== Release if possible: ============ Nielsen (already known to be going) McAuley (Poor distribution) Clemence (Disappointing) Kishishev (Already away on loan) Newton (Never really been a success here) Fryatt (Too slow and limited.) Kaebi (Simply overpowered in English football) Hellings (Not enough impact) DeVries (Missed his chance really) Dodds (Cannot see he would make enough difference if he returned) Maybury (Not quite good enough now) Henderson (surplus to needs) Rowe-Turner (Doubt he'll make a championship centre-back) Collins John (Probably bound for elsewhere) That's 14 I would do without. ================== Sign: ==== Right-back, left-back, two midfielders, right winger, two strikers, left wingerm (8 players). Total squad 31. Train all rigourously. ===================================================
weggy1976 Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 Agree with Super Ollie's choice, other than I would keep Fryatt and Sappleton (anyone who has watched him play 6 games will know he is gonna be something).
Raj Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 Get rid of pasties. Replace with hot potatoes with cheese or beans sorted
Thracian Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 I'm sure she was giving the come on to either you or Ultra. I wish. The way the game was going any alternative recreation would have been welcome. Especially if it had involved the comfort of a warm bed.
SamL Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 Get rid of pasties.Replace with hot potatoes with cheese or beans sorted I prefer the pasties Don't like Potatoes Please don't recommend that one
Manwell Pablo Posted 17 December 2007 Posted 17 December 2007 I'd sign Fulop. Besides that I'd consider any offer, as I've said time and time again no one in this squad is that important to us. Although the way Holloway harps on about Fryatt I'd be suprised to see him go.
