If Sheehan was taking no corners and no free kicks, I wonder what argument you'd bring to the table in his defence?

Sheehan would, I believe, be an even more creative player in Leicester's team if we EVER attacked in the sort of numbers a good team would but that will NEVER happen with the current players.

So Sheehan, like others, does the best he can in the circumstances and I really don't care how goals, assists and near things come from so long as we do and overall this season Sheehan has been responsible for more such moments than anyone.

Yet people would get rid of him.

Not that anything surprises me any more.

If you think we need a better alternative to Sheehan and we can find one then I won't be complaining but by all accounts Capaldi's been playing either naff or just average all season. He sounds like another Nielsen really. All hype and no substance.

IH has managed the player, therefore this is nothing at all like the Nielsen situation.

I wonder if he's managed him when he's playing badly.

Cos half a season of indifferent form doesn't sound convincing to me.

But we'll see.

I wouldn't get rid of him but you have to admit Thrac his workrate on Sat wasn't great. TBH, if we're going to have the lad in the team for his passing, he'd be far more effective as a central midfielder- the lad's workrate is just not good enough getting up and down the left hand side.

Not that I'd ever advocate playing players out of position or anything...

My problem with Sheehan is not necessarily with his work rate but with what he adds to the team. Yes he is a good set-piece taker but IMO he isn't quite good enough defensively to play full-back and he isn't quite good enough attacking-wise to play as winger. Playing as wing-back might suit him best although he never covered himself in glory under Megson so I'm not quite sure where he fits in. :dunno:

I've seen no evidence at all this season that Sheehan is a worse defender than Mattock and there is nothing in the goals against statistics or the results that suggest this is the case. I've detailed their respective records many times and, based on ever lengthening statistics, there's no contest.

But thus far I fail to see what it is that Mattock adds to the side. He's competent, no question. He's more mobile, a tighter marker, reasonable safe tackler and probably quicker, certainly on the turn.

Sheehan seems better in the air, he's defended well in the area by reading the game, he's far better distributing the ball, finds more space generally and offers so much more when we have possession than Mattock does.

But make no mistake he's a full-back not a winger or midfielder and his strengths will only properly be seen when we have more pace and more penetration up front and in attacking midfield.

I've seen it so often in the reserves. When Sheehan has had the likes of Porter and Gradel stretching the play and making runs down the flanks, plus fast and skillful players up front then he can find them with passes. And he finds them better from full-back cos he's running onto the ball and often has a bit more space.

Mattock may well increase his influence but I've watched him for a long time now and I've never seen signs, even in the Academy, that he's a really dangerous player going forward.

Willing, yes. He certainly offers support. And he has stamina. But I don't see him as dangerous.

And none of the above mentions Sheehans free kicks and corners which, month on month, are far more searching than anyone else's. And potentially more powerful.

How would he fit in, you asked?

Well I don't believe we're best served playing the two together. They should be developed in tandem.

But Sheehan would fit best at left-back if we had a fast passing, fast covering midfielder (which we need anyway), a fast centre-back who could pass (which we need anyway) and a genuine winger (which we need anyway).

It would increase our goals potential considerably.

And I don't see how we're going to expand our game, use the size of the pitch better and create more opportunities if we don't include some footballers.

People used to talk about Gareth Williams and how much he created but in all the time I watched he didn't create anything like as much as Sheehan as I think the stats will confirm. It doesn't matter how the creativity arises just that it does.

Sheehan becomes less effective in midfield cos he has less time and space but, besides, we need fast, elusive players in midfield and in attack. I'd like us to have speed at full-back too but I don't think we'd find a fast full-back with Sheehan's abilities.

Yeah, he's well lazy, although I thought kenton was proper shit and N'Gotty didn't seem bothered either (esp. in 1st half). Hayes was pretty average aswell, but other than that I thought the performance was a massive step forward. Fryatt and hume looked great running at people and the defence was pretty solid (for 85 minutes anyway).

But by far the performance of the day was the ballboy slipping over at the start of the match on that plastic sheet. I nearly pissed my pants. lol

We deserved to win that, no doubt. First half was a non-event, but we upped the tempo in the second, and could have scored more. Weaver made two good saves from Sheehan and Fryatt, and great header by Clemence for the goal, superb desire to get there first and win the header. Charlton had two chances, Varney's shot which Fulop saved, and the fluky goal. Firstly it wasn't a free-kick in the corner, and also Weaver moved the ball forward about thirty yards. McCarthy's finishing for us was so bad you would have expected him to hit it into the top row, or miss the ball completely.

Iwelumo should have been sent off, elbow in the face, red card offence, or should have had his second booking when he shoved Kisnorbo over on the half-way line.

Deserved the win, and also a cracking atmosphere down there. L1 were loud and passionate, the Kop tried to sing, and so did the FAMILY STAND! It's only the West Stand who don't join in.

Also why do the away fans run towards L1 when they score? Where do the hope to get to before they are stopped by stewards?

They only run towards L1 when they actually have room to move which usually means they have failed to sell their full allocation of tickets! :giggle::whistle:
