Surely the e mail is just the first rung on the ladder. He hasnt dismissed the ideas outright, he has offered to discuss them in more detail.

While I strongly admire any effort made to implement positive change this won't arise after just one e mail. The meeting offer should be taken up and the matters pursued face to face.

I saw it as getting his excuses in early, the core of the email was neither encouraging or suggesting any openness - frankly I thought it stank.

It's easy to mistake a diplomat for a "good bloke".

Not really from what i have seen he has been the one helping fans with issues for a long time and is supportive of improving the atmosphere.

Chelsea Dagger reminds me of the MA days, as soon as he left we should of ditched that.

You're quite right. It was a poor mail. As someone pointed out, putting "Ditto" as an answer really doesn't do much to convey any sort of shared passion for the issues raised.

That said my point was and still is that the meeting offer should be taken up and pursued. Only then will you have a good idea of how realistic it is to expect any change. Until that point everything we write about Peter and whether he gives a shit or not is conjecture.

Maybe the majority of the fans in The Kop do enjoy sitting there.

yes but at the same time if you asked them if they would like to move next to the away fans, at no charge and the club would organise the swap and they would STILL be able to buy a beer for them then most would also take them up on it

Maybe.

But how does Peter Jones come to that conclusion then?

JTB, we will most certainly be following up. The reply was a bit of a slap in the face really considering the effort put in, especially by Jamie.

That's pure conjecture. Personally I think the lack of atmosphere in the Kop demonstrates just how little the majority care about being next to the away fans. The silent majority rules all when it comes to football. Pay yer money, fill out yer survey saying you're happy with yer seat, JUST DON'T UPSET THEM WHATEVER IT TAKES!

It was a perfunctory response. I'm sure he doesn't expect the offer of a meeting to be taken up.

So call his bluff. Suggest dates for a meeting (preferably Thursdays to avoid clashes with matches) and see what he says.

I also think they should take up his offer but a simple reply along the lines of thanks for your suggestions you have obviously put in a considerable amount of thought and I would be more than happy to discuss them with you.

As it stands they are entering a meeting where it would appear minds are already made up. If they are then his reply should have been more direct and instead of an invite simple to say that their ideas are not up for debate.

How do you know that all fans in The Kop want to move next to the away fans and want people standing up around them all game. Get Birch to do some vote at half time or something that will sort this matter out, like he did with the smoking ban thingy.

I don't, that's exactly it.

Which is why I contacted him to look further into this and actually find out what people want.

But making a sweeping generalisation like he has done is wrong.

They did a vote on this at the time unfortunately they also took into account the views of the East & West Stands no doubt to ensure that they got a majority that either said no or simply just didn't care enough to vote and were therefore classed as NOs.

The inclusion of the bit about standing was a bit silly in my opinion. The club will be giving priority to making sure no sections get closed down so will clamp down on standing in any large numbers. To tie this in with the idea of moving the Kop makes no sense because you're linking the two where they cannot possibly be associated.

Yea that's fair enough, take my suggestion and get Birch on the matter. :D

Interesting that, this is one of the e-mails I received.

Simon

Please let me have a few alternative dates and times and we can choose a suitable one. Sometime over the xmas period is not a problem if you can meet at the Stadium.

If you can advise me exactly what you want to talk about and I can prepare.

Best wishes

Peter

Be nice to see if you could wring a comprimise out of him. Push the music back a few minutes. Push the goal celebration music back 5-10 seconds and, more importantly, don't have it so fooking load that it drowns out everything.

At least if he actually meets with him you can argue your point and he can't bullshit you as is so easy with indirect contact like e-mail.

Standing is probably way beyond his control, unfortunately.

To be honest i think a lot of people do enjoying sitting in the south stand, although i hate to say it. They don't want to move as they see at as an inconvienance and wont. Take the N block for instance if people were hating the idea of where they were sat, they would have supported this idea. I dont think it was promoted as much as it should of been but there you go, clubs fault as well. I want the kop to be next to the away fans as much as anyone but honestly think leicester fans hate changing and get themselves in to too much of a routine, its pathetic but that must be the answer.

The only over way i can think of moving the kop is only opening the North and West Stand for shitty carling cup game at home in which only 2 stands will be full. With a family area in the west stand with cheaper price tickets for a certain age. Then if people can see an improvement in the atmosphere of a 'shitty' carling cup game. Then a vote should be done again and hopefully the move would be then made.

I see what you mean. But we felt that the club has privately said it's behind safe standing, it would be nice to see them be one of the first to make initiatives towards it.

I don't see them clamping down to be honest, they wouldn't touch L1.

So they shouldn't!

It's not in their interests to risk it though. Ah well, I'm off home now.

Personally I shall never forget how they cynically pulled the rug out from under the N Blockers after first backing the idea, then partly taking credit for it, then withdrawing all support for it prior to the game where the Stewards went in ejecting people and creating an initimdating atmosphere in order to bring about it's ultimate failure.

I know standing is beyond his control, but, he's been open enough to say he's been to seminars etc in the past, so we were keen to keep the issue about and in the mind.

Without a doubt yes.

So maybe they would want to campaign for it to legalise it, thus not considering it a problem?

If people don't want to move from the Kop they don't have to, they'd just be sitting the 'New Family Stand'. The only people that would need to move would be those in the family stand which looks pretty empty most matches anyway. Maybe asking how many ST holders there are in the Family Stand would be a good starting point.

Exactly i don't think the club promoted well either. A quick message on the website and a small column in the mercury. The club should have made an effort, in producing hand outs the game before, as they were supposed to be backing the idea. It did have a lot of potiential and could have been fulled. We might not be having this conversation if this happened, and we could be enjoying home games even more.

I wouldnt have thought many at all. Never looks full.

The club knew EXACTLY what they were doing.

Promote it, back it, take credit for it. UNTIL they receive complaints from the most valuable people at the club. Then take every action they can to make sure it becomes a failure without outright doing it.
