filbertboy Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Don't know if anyone has seen the inside sports page of the mockery tonight. It shows a brilliant picture of the one and only Lenny Glover in a terrific pose where he is about to send the ball over into the box where no doubt Frankie Wortho was waiting !!! I am having a constant debate with my workmate as to who was the better out of Lenny Glover or Steve Lynex. Who stirred the crowd more ? Who was the best dribbler ? For me it is Lenny every time no contest, what do you think ? Whats your fav memory of either player ?
Candidcamera Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Lenny Glover had a telepathic relationship with Wortho. The support service each gave was quite mesmorising. The ball would find Glover on the run and his crossing was pretty good - perhaps not as good as Guppy but instead of crossing without beating his man Glover was an artist. He would carry the ball, beat his man and cross from the line. He had a few good goals too. He played in a higher standard of football than lynex. Really no comparison in my book. Lynex played with Smith and Lineker. He was quick and a good winger. I liked watching him when he was on form but not a Glover.
Head Honcho Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Lenny stirred the crowd more but Lynex was just better If I had to choose.
Sods Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 I tell you what that kit. Lynex played in white stripes was lush. Id have that anyday.
Head Honcho Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 I tell you what that kit. Lynex played in white stripes was lush. Id have that anyday. I can't be sure but I think that is the only city kit I've ever worn .................Lineker is always pictured in it too isn't he?
filbertboy Posted 16 January 2008 Author Posted 16 January 2008 I can't be sure but I think that is the only city kit I've ever worn .................Lineker is always pictured in it too isn't he? The kit lenny wears in the picture is the all white one with the blue collar and v at the neck and blue cuffs . A cool kit as well ! I remember buying it from the sports shop on high street which I think was called Sports Ltd.
filbertboy Posted 16 January 2008 Author Posted 16 January 2008 Glover - no contest. Hey Thracian I am interested in your opinions and reasons why Glover was better !! please elaborate for me !!
spirefox Posted 16 January 2008 Posted 16 January 2008 Lenny Glover ,more pace ,flair ,skill and charisma.Getting sent down on a drugs rap was totally predictable and enhances the legend.
jerakin Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 Never saw Glover, but saw Lynex most of the games he played. He used to bring a real roar fom the crowd when he pelted down the wing. Used to run defenders (and himself) ragged! I salute you, Stevie Lynex! I have that sweet striped kit too, used to wear it to play football at school.
Lester LXXIV Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 Glover was before my time but I used to enjoy watching Tommy Wright skin full backs (i.e Cambridge Utd Play-Off 2nd Leg at Filbert St)
blueoveru Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 Lenny had the skill and the pace to mesmerise full backs but loved the through ball to run on to, made for the by line and pulled the ball back for the forwards to get on the end of, ask Worthy because he was the main beneficary of most of Lenny's work but he could also craft an opening with his skill on the ball........ long hair flowing as he ran ..... a kop idol....... "Lenny Glover, Lenny Glover, Lenny Glover, on the wing" they used to sing Did'nt see a lot of Lynex as I was working away from home at that time.
Geo V Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 I never saw either player live but have seen some videos down the years. I think out of the two the best winger was..... Ooh Tommy Wright, Ooh Tommy Wright
Lester LXXIV Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 I never saw either player live but have seen some videos down the years.I think out of the two the best winger was..... Ooh Tommy Wright, Ooh Tommy Wright You bet Geo!!
BedsFox Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 I began watching Leicester in 1974 and idolised Glover, he was the business. Watching him and Worthington play together was sublime. Len had pace, skinned a lot of defenders, accurate crosses too. Lynex was just below him for me and supplying for Lineker and Smith was also terrific Both were way ahead of Tommy Wright who wasn't as pacy as either and played at a lower level and any other winger we've had since. (until now Zsolt, maybe we can dream)
Fez of Mahrez Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 Used to love Ooh Tommy Wright (the first)
l444ry Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 No disrespect to Steve Lynex but Len Glover quite easily.
Wycombe Fox Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 Having seen probably 95% of both players home games I would definitely say Lenny Glover. When he got the ball you always knew that something was going to happen. His pace and skill down the left wing were fantastic to watch and being left-footed myself, I was always him in the playground at school. It's hard to describe, but the extra bit of noise that came from the City fans when he got the ball...awesome! Lynex was great on the wing too, always gave 100% and was just right for Young, Melrose, Lineker and Smith. Stats; Glover played 311 times (plus 8 substitute appearances) scored 50 goals (0 penalties) Lynex played 222 times (plus 14 substitute appearances) scored 60 goals (29 penalties) One other thing that Lenny Glover had - the most amazing swagger! What a great word. Swagger. Will always be one of my favourite ever players - it's just a bonus that he played for LCFC - and should have been on England's left wing when Keith Weller was on the right, both knocking crosses in to Frankie Wortho. Others on here who may not have seen LG or SL have mentioned Tommy Wright. In my opinion, and no disrespect to Tommy Wright who was a cracking player, if I were to categorise the three players by divisions I would go; Lenny Glover - Top four in the Premier League Steve Lynex - Top six in the Championship Tommy Wright - League Two
Ultra Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 Both of these players blew hot and cold (as all wingers do - even Giggs and Ronaldo), but on their day, they were superb. Lenny just edges it though. It's possible he could have won England honours had he stayed in London. Lynex was superb in the top flight for several seasons. Neither Smith nor Lineker would have been as prolific for us without him.
BedsFox Posted 17 January 2008 Posted 17 January 2008 As a crosser yes, but as a "beat the defender with pace and crowd on edge of seat" player, nowhere near Glover, Lynex or Wright Perfect in MON's teams though
Alexikokopops Posted 18 January 2008 Posted 18 January 2008 I've never seen either but my dad loves Lenny.
